V-8, Original Power Pack (4bbl carb, 220hp)
Original 3 Speed (on the tree) with RARE ORIGINAL OVERDRIVE

Hi Folks- I am selling this for my mother.  The car is located in Benicia, California.  She is the 3rd owner and has had it for about 25 years.  Yes, 98688 miles is original - it has not flipped the odometer.  The car has been parked for a number of years but it ran like a top when parked (I have been told that the engine turns freely so with a little bit of work I've got a feeling she will run pretty good all over again).  My mother has decided that it is time to let it go rather than let it sit outside any longer.

What I remember when the car was purchased: This car is extremely original (even the Mohair headliner) with ALL numbers matching (all engine parts, tranny, overdrive, windows, etc....) except the rear end.  The rear end was replaced before my mother got the car but it was replaced with a 'newer' chevy rear end with 4:11 gears.  The 4:11 gears are the stock ration for the overdrive model.  I was able to drive this car a bit when I was in high school.  She's a heavy car, but with the Power pack motor and 4:11 gears she's a true "stump puller!"  Don't tell my mother, but there wasn't a single person in high school that could beat me off the line in this car.  Ahhh, the memories!  The OD helped quiet down the noise @ freeway speeds.  Oh, the original color was Salmon - the previous owner painted it the '57 Buick blue color that you see.

My mother did tell me that the glove box and the glove box door are currently missing.  My father took it out to work on something (I don't know what??) and never got around to putting it back in.  From the photos, it also looks like the driver's door panel is missing.

I have not personally seen the car for years but ask me any questions you have and I will get what answers I can from my mother.  Other than the photos on this listing I personally have not seen the car for about a decade (the photos were taken this last week) so this is an as-is sale.  But, she is a clean titled, very original '57 Chevy with numbers matching Power Pack motor, 3 speed manual transition and very RARE OVERDRIVE.

As-is, where-is.  Payment due within 7 days of auction end.  Your responsibility for gettin' her moved but I don't mind helping find an auto hauler if you need one (although I think eBay offers a service, no?  Not sure, never sold a car on eBay before).  Please ask any question you may have and I will do my best to get you the answers!

Best of luck!  If you don't mind putting a little elbow grease into her, this gal will make you happy!

On Nov-23-13 at 15:30:41 PST, seller added the following information:

Hi Everyone - thanks for all the great questions!  I was able to get out there and take a look at the car today and took photos of what people were asking for.  General description of what the car looks like now (as I mentioned before, I had not seen it in about 10 years... until today).  Body panels look pretty solid and straight:  fenders, quarters, doors, hood, trunk, etc but there is some typical/surface rust.

The floor on the drivers side looks reasonable - probably savable but I am not going to make that call from a quick inspection as I did not want to peel up the original flooring ( I would just replace it and be done with it, myself).  I now understand why my father removed the glove box door - there is a leak at the bottom passenger side of the front windshield and so the front passenger side floor will need replacing.  Trunk looks really good (I mean, this car is over 50 years old!)

Gutters are so-so: will need some work.  The back splash panel (located in front of rear bumper) will need replacing although the front one looks pretty good.  Engine compartment has surface rust but the splash guards, etc are usable.  Here is a spot with the SS missing that will need TLC:

The drivers door cannot be opened right now.  I'm positive the original ID plate is there, though - I would have remembered something missing as glaring as that.  It may need the hinges replaced?  After talking with my mother, my father did something to screw up the hinges.  Apparently, no one ever found out what.

Here are pix of the original overdrive equipment:

and senor on the carb

I'm pretty sure that the gas tank needs to get replaced - my father cut the fuel line so he could install a filter (original system only has a sintered brass filter in the carb) and then the turkey put in a 1 gallon paint thinner can and ran the fuel line into that (He has the mentality of a Great Depression survivor and applied it to everything - even if it didn't make sense).  Replace the fuel line and gas tank, remove the 1 gallon can and it will be fine.  Yes, the original OD equipment are still there and in place.

Pix of the radiator numbers: yep, the original 1957 radiator.

Chevrolet considering midsize crossover to slot between Traverse and Equinox

Mon, Jan 9 2017

Crossovers are the new hotness, and automakers are looking to cash in by offering a size and shape for every customer. With Chevrolet's debut of the new 2018 Traverse in Detroit, which grew ever so slightly compared to the first-generation model, there is now a midsize-crossover-sized hole between the three-row Traverse and the compact Equinox. When asked about that obvious space, a Chevrolet spokesperson told us the company is looking into the possibility of expanding its crossover lineup. It should be a relatively simple thing to do, since all it would take is reskinning and rechristening the GMC Acadia with a bow tie, and we all know how much GM loves platform sharing. Although they're now different sizes, the new Acadia and Traverse still use the same platform; the Acadia is now on a short-wheelbase version of the C1XX while the Traverse uses long-wheelbase C1XX parts. A short-wheelbase Chevy built on the C1XX likely would be differentiated visually from both the Acadia and the larger Traverse. It may seem like flooding the lineup with more and more models would cannibalize sales of existing ones, but Chevrolet said it would rather have customers stay within the brand rather than going to another automaker. There have been whispers that some form of the Blazer name (possibly TrailBlazer) may make a return on a midsizer, but if it does don't expect an old-school body-on-frame SUV like the old one. In the end, if Chevy builds it, customers will come. Related Video:

Mary Barra reportedly confirms GM's electric pickup truck plans

Tue, Apr 30 2019

According to Motor Authority, CEO Mary Barra confirmed General Motors' intentions to build an electric pickup truck this week. Whether or not it would be an all-new vehicle is unknown. The news comes not even a week after Ford announced a $500 million investment in electric-vehicle startup Rivian. First, electric powertrains were integrated into cars. Then came the crossovers and the SUVs. Naturally, then, the next wave will be pickup trucks. Ford is set to produce an electric F-150, Rivian has the R1T, and now General Motors has reportedly confirmed its plans to introduce a competitor into the field. The article says the topic was brought up in a recent investor call as part of a brief overview of the automaker's electrification strategy. That's where the details end, however, as there is no indication of a timeline, what GM brand would carry the truck, or whether it would be an entirely new product or an adaptation of a current model. The latter seems most likely, which points to the Chevrolet Silverado or the GMC Sierra as possibilities. Chevrolet has been GM's electrification leader this decade with the Bolt and Volt, so an electric Silverado would align well with that messaging and branding. However, an electric pickup would likely be a pricier premium product, which could align it better with GMC. Autoblog has reached out to GM for comment and will update this space when we get a response. GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be.
