Hey Everyone!

Looking to sell this great 56 Handyman. Recently pulled the car from storage and I've been working towards having it on the road for my own pleasure.  I've come to a place where I have absolutely no time to continue working on it. If your looking for a classic car to have as a daily driver, this is the car for you. It's far from show quality, but it's a solid 20-footer. As it sits right now, it turns over, fires, and runs. The transmission was serviced before the car went into storage around 5 years ago and the rear axle is a late 80's GM 10bolt with a 3.73:1 gearset.  There is a vacuum leak and as a result the car dies off below 1400 rpm. It has an MSD control box, coil, and distributor (vacuum advance), and all are brand new as of April 2013 as well as the water pump. It's pulling fuel through a Holley 600cfm carb with vacuum secondary and electric choke, rebuilt in April 2013. The car has an electric fuel pump in place of the mechanical and I've installed an OEM style fuel tank as the previous one needed replacing. The tank, sending unit, and mounting hardware are all brand new as of April 2013. The car is fitted with a 4-wheel power disc brake conversion kit from Classic Performance Products (CPP), and 2 inch drop spindles up front. The rear brake lines still need to be plumbed from the proportioning valve to the calipers; I have the remaining parts in storage to be included in sale. The rear lugs need adjustment; the company that installed them did a sorry job and there are some lug nuts that will not go on. There is an 18-circuit Painless wiring harness, unfortunately after a few years in storage there seems to be a draw on the system which I do not have the time to troubleshoot. The motor needs a tune-up; it burns some oil. The original gauge cluster was broken beyond repair, I've installed a set of Autometer gauges of the following types: MPH, RPM, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Fuel, and Battery. The turn indicator switch needs to be replaced in order for the blinkers to be serviceable. The car is fitted with 2 bucket seats in the front and there is no back seat. The headliner is in perfect shape and the interior walls are upholstered with a simple gray tuck-n-roll. Tires are in good shape. All of the window mechanisms work, although not perfectly. The rear bumper had been removed before I purchased it and a rollpan was installed in its place. Car is missing trim bar spanning the forward edge of the hood.

Mileage is unknown.

All in all this is a great car that just needs a little attention in just the right places to be the perfect cruiser:

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

It won't be long now before Nissan Leaf finally overtakes Chevy Volt

Thu, Dec 25 2014

The two best-selling plug-in vehicles ever are the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. When the two vehicles launched in late 2010, the plug-in hybrid Volt quickly outpaced the all-electric Leaf and, despite lots of ups and downs since then, continues to hold on to a cumulative sales lead. This will change in 2015. Cumulatively, from November 2010 through November 2014, the Volt sold 71,867 units while the Leaf trails with 69,220. That's a difference of just 2,647. Based on current trends (with the Leaf selling around 2,500-2,700 a month and the Volt at 1,500-1,700) we expect the Leaf to take over either in January or, more likely, February when the Leaf takes over as the most popular plug-in car in America. Perhaps even March, depending on how low the numbers are for January and February, which are always slow sales months in the US. Of course, once it takes the crown, the Leaf can't expect to easily hold on for long. A new Volt is coming in the second half of 2015, likely beating a new Leaf to market. The question is, then, how well the Chevy sells with all of its new bells and whistles. Do you think the Volt will be the comeback kid once the 2016 model becomes available? Junkyard Gem: 2003 Chevrolet Tracker

Wed, May 22 2024

When General Motors created the Geo brand to sell vehicles designed and — in some cases — built by Japanese partners, the first four models were introduced for the 1989 model year: the Metro (Suzuki Cultus), Prizm (Toyota Sprinter), Spectrum (Isuzu Gemini) and Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick). Geo got the axe in 1997, with the Metro, Prizm and Tracker becoming Chevrolets. Of those, the Tracker survived the longest, with U.S.-market sales continuing into 2004. Here's an example of a very late Tracker, found in a North Carolina car graveyard recently. The 1989-1997 first-generation Trackers were based on the Suzuki Sidekick, while the 1998-2004 Trackers had the Suzuki Vitaras (not to be confused with the much grander Grand Vitaras) as their siblings. Production of these trucks for the South American market (as the Chevrolet Vitara) continued in Ecuador all the way through 2014. The Tracker name has also gone onto some versions of the Chevrolet Trax around the world. This one is a base four-door hard top/rear-wheel-drive model, which had an MSRP of $17,330. That's about $29,789 in 2024 dollars. You'll find one in every car. You'll see. The engine is a Suzuki 2.0-liter straight-four rated at 127 horsepower and 134 pound-feet. A five-speed manual was base equipment, but very few American vehicle shoppers wanted three pedals by the middle 2000s. This truck has the Aisin four-speed automatic. We like it loud. It appears that someone associated with this truck graduated from Julius L. Chambers High School last year. In the United States, the Tracker was replaced by the Saturn Vue. If Tracker can handle (unspecified Middle Eastern country), it can survive the jungle back home. Siempre contigo.
