We just acquired this outstanding 55 Bel Air from the estate of a Chevrolet Dealer in southwest Pennsylvania. Mr. Sunderland was a lifelong car dealer with multiple franchises. His first job in automobile sales as a salesperson was for S&S Chevrolet in Thompsontown, PA in 1955. His very first sale was to a local lady and it was this very same Bel Air sedan. Mr. Sunderland kept track of this iconic first sold car and 40 years later had a chance to buy it back and add it to hiss small vintage car collection. He kept the car in its well maintained, totally unrestored condition until his passing earlier this year at which time we purchased the car as you see it here. Having traveled just 63,000 miles in nearly 60 years, this car is one of the finest unmolested originals you will ever find. A very nicely optioned Bel Air Sedan equipped with the 265 V-8, powerglide automatic transmission, factory AM radio, E-Z eye tinted glass and white sidewall tires. The cars very clear history tells us that excellent maintenance and safe, dry storage preserved this car in a near amazing overall condition. The car runs, drives, rides and performs about as close to a new 55 Chevy as you could ever imagine. A recent complete service was just completed and this car needs nothing to be driven and enjoyed. This car is original paint except for the two front fenders which were refinished when Mr. Sunderland acquired the car due to paint being very thin, nearly gone on the top surfaces. All other paint is factory original applied in 1955 and some areas are getting thin also but still very presentable in its original patina. Exterior chrome and brightwork is all original and near mint as is window glass and all weatherstripping. This car has absolutely no rust anywhere-zero- and never has had any repair anywhere. It is rock solid. The interior is one of the most incredible parts of this car. It is 1005 original and absolutely like new with no wear or deterioration anywhere. The original carets appear to have been always covered by large fitted floor mats preserving them to be pristine. All soft surfaces are superb, headliner is excellent an all interior painted trim and brightwork is as new and unrestored. Everything functions properly including the original radio. The trunk compartment holds one original whitewall tire as a spare along with jack and tools. The factory rubber mat is mint and still soft and pliable. Trunk floor paint is flawless under the mat as you see in one of our pictures. Having owned a good number of very fine 55-57 Chevy's over the years this one is by far the most original and unrestored. This is one true survivor of one of the most popular Chevy's ever built and likely one of the best. photo 2014-04-21100352_zpsdb688754.jpg photo 2014-04-21100404_zpsde6d33db.jpg photo 2014-04-21100414_zpsd50b044f.jpg photo 2014-04-21100424_zps4a6fb92c.jpg photo 2014-04-21100502_zpseee82a5d.jpg photo 2014-04-21100515_zps01ae96fe.jpg photo 2014-04-21100537_zps2da7614d.jpg photo 2014-04-21100620_zps2d5a80af.jpg photo 2014-04-21100633_zps8f0cc2ed.jpg photo 2014-04-21100701_zpsa774ba1c.jpg photo 2014-04-21100717_zpsecde2b7f.jpg photo 2014-04-21100725_zps77b9e1bd.jpg photo 2014-04-21100740_zpsa824d883.jpg photo 2014-04-21100750_zpse80a7f08.jpg photo 2014-04-21100846_zps6a209c0e.jpg photo 2014-04-21100857_zps6db41e4c.jpg photo 2014-04-21100906_zps05ae2bc4.jpg photo 2014-04-21100920_zps96af03f1.jpg photo 2014-04-21101002_zps7ef67d4c.jpg photo 2014-04-21101103_zps9faadf72.jpg photo 2014-04-21101119_zps1ad0bab9.jpg photo 2014-04-21101135_zps6b027752.jpg photo 2014-04-21101153_zpsb3d5bce4.jpg photo 2014-04-21101216_zps922b0355.jpg photo 2014-04-21101228_zps7d2e6683.jpg photo 2014-04-21101251_zpsf6e1abf8.jpg photo 2014-04-21101303_zpsaef5d2a3.jpg photo 2014-04-21101318_zps38292ba3.jpg photo 2014-04-21101332_zps1fbc0c8d.jpg photo 2014-04-21101731_zps74488050.jpg photo 2014-04-21101740_zpsd11c492b.jpg photo 2014-04-21101750_zps7a574016.jpg photo 2014-04-21101810_zps3a02465e.jpg photo 2014-04-21101819_zps849ce635.jpg photo 2014-04-21101830_zps518d436c.jpg photo 2014-04-21101856_zps8ec1b35a.jpg photo 2014-04-21101908_zps8c18f7be.jpg photo 2014-04-21101924_zpsaa50de29.jpg photo 2014-04-21102008_zps20edd921.jpg photo 2014-04-21102053_zps8e320402.jpg photo 2014-04-21102210_zpsfbbf2eb6.jpg photo 2014-04-21102225_zpsc5e86916.jpg photo 2014-04-21102240_zps6ae7688a.jpg photo 2014-04-21102314_zpsa047e14d.jpg

GM files for Z71 Trail Boss trademark

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Try as they might to keep their plans a secret, automakers have their hands tipped through a variety of methods – be they through loose lips, spy shots or patent and trademark applications. That's how we know, in this instance, that General Motors is working on (or at least considering) an off-road machine wearing the name Z71 Trail Boss – the name which our compatriots at AutoGuide.com tell us that GM has registered for use on light-duty trucks. Now if that alphanumeric designator sounds familiar, it should. GM has long used it to designate the off-road packages on many of its body-on-frame trucks from Chevy and GMC. These days you can order a Z71 package on the Chevy Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban and on the GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon. The package typically includes components like a beefed-up suspension bits, high-capacity air cleaner and underbody protection plates. The Trail Boss designator would seem to suggest something further reaching than a suspension package, though. Just what it would entail we don't know; minds immediately start running toward Chevy or GMC going after the Ford F-150 Raptor, but we'll likely be looking at something closer to the Trailhawk packages Jeep offers on the likes of the Renegade and Cherokee. Tarantino's stolen Chevy Malibu from Pulp Fiction recovered after 19 years [w/video]

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Quentin Tarantino fans will likely remember Vincent Vega's cherry 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible in Pulp Fiction. In a movie drenched in automotive references, the Malibu is very nearly a character in and of itself, and it serves as the subject of Vega's soliloquy about the kind of man who vandalizes another's automobile. It also happened to be Tarantino's personal car when the film was shot, and was apparently stolen shortly after production wrapped. Now police have located the car some 19 years later.
As it turns out, the thieves cloned the vehicle identification number from another '64 Malibu and had the car registered under the new digits. It was then sold to an unsuspecting buyer. Police happened upon the duplicate VINs while investigating another potential theft. Right now, it's unclear whether Tarantino has taken possession of the Chevrolet, if it has remained in the possession of the fraud victim, or whether it's caught somewhere in the gears of justice. Either way, you can catch Vega's memorable thoughts on the car keying in the Pulp Fiction clip below. But consider yourself warned: the video contains explicit language as Not Safe For Work as it comes.

GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.
