~~~~ Video No Reserve 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Dr Hard Top Video No Reserve ~~~~ on 2040-cars
Republic, Missouri, United States
This is a no reserve auction, so if you bid, be prepared to buy. This is a very nice 1956 Chevy Bel Air. It has a very good running 350 with a 350 Turbo automatic transmission. It has a new Optima battery and Coker whitewalls. The interior is very nice. It has been redone in the original black and white. Gauges are nice, but it needs a speedometer cable. The glass appears to have been replaced when the car was painted 15 years ago. All new felt and rubber around doors and windows. Stainless is all in good condition. The original bumpers were re-chromed, but the grill and bottom bar on hood shows some age. I just installed new CPP 2inch drop spindles with disc brake conversion with steel braided brake lines and had the front end aligned. New master cylinder and rear drop blocks for the back. Also new finned aluminum valve covers and matching air cleaner. The car was repainted around 15 years ago. Shows very nice, but it does have blemishes here and there in the paint-typical with a 15 year old paint job (see video). There is no rust in the car, and it is super straight. There is a spot on hood where the paint has come loose. Please see picture and I point it out in video. This is an older restoration so there may be a few bugs here and there. Runs and drive good and straight down the road. Please watch videos. If you can't view videos on your phone, view listing from a desktop. Feel free to make arrangements to view car before the end of the auction. The car will need to be paid in full before it leaves my possession. For more information call Mark at 417-766-2738. Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard
Tue, 19 Mar 2013Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.
In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.
If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.
GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
