    THE 1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO

Cadillac's completely restyled 1957 Eldorado borrowed heavily from the lines of the Park Avenue, a hardtop sedan concept car shown at the 1954 Motorama.  A new X-member chassis contributed to structural rigidity as well as to a profile nearly three inches lower than before.

The Eldorado Biarritz and Seville had their own rear-end configuration. The work of Ron Hill, a talented 23-year-old design newcomer, it featured a sloped deck flanked by rounded fenders sprouting sharply pointed fins.  The lower rear fenders were liberally garnished with chrome.  The hood ornament was eliminated, contributing to a smoother frontal appearance.  Overall, the 1957 Eldorado was more readily distinguishable from other Cadillacs than any Eldorado since the original.  The standard horsepower was 300, more than enough power to get the job done.

PEOPLE WILL BE IN AWE OF ITS UNIQUE AMERICAN LUXURY CAR BIG FIN STYLING, AND YOU'LL GET MANY SIGNS OF THEIR APPROVAL!

Vehicle Condition:

THE INTERIOR OF THIS 1957 ELDORADO IS IN AMAZING MOSTLY “SURVIVOR” CONDITION!  THIS BEAUTIFULLY STYLED VINTAGE AMERICAN LUXURY CAR RUNS AND DRIVES WONDERFULLY!

This Eldorado is 57 years old, so some signs of age are to be expected!  Much of this car appears to be in amazing unrestored original "SURVIVOR" condition.  However, I’m sure that some items were replaced or rebuilt through the years.  Obviously the tires were replaced!

This Eldorado has an amazing mostly “survivor” interior in excellent condition.  As would be expected, the clock is not currently working, very common for a vehicle this age.  The original factory radio does come on, but does not play.  I do believe the antenna is not plugged in, so that could be the problem.  The padded dash looks great and is soft and supple.  The headliner looks like new.  The glove box lock is not working and the door is temporarily being held closed with a spring, and the driver side ash tray is being held closed with silicone.

The exterior style is beautiful!  The chrome bumpers have been rechromed.  The front bumpers look great, but there is an issue on the bottom of the driver’s side lower piece.  The rear bumpers and tail light housings do have pitting and some pealing.  There are three very minor windshield wiper scuffs that I believe will polish out.  The paint has a good shine but would benefit from a good polishing.  The paint does show some age as there is some cracking on the hood and one or two other spots.  The car was resprayed sometime in the past.  There is a scape and some indentations on the right rear and left rear stainless that can be repaired.  The sabre wheels show some pitting and minor chips.

The trunk interior is in beautiful condition and holds what appears to be the original spare tire.  The engine bay is clean with some components being replaced or refreshed as some time.  The license plates shown on the car are not included in the sale.

The odometer reading above is as it reads and is most likely not the total miles.

This Cadillac Eldorado Seville will turns heads and gets thumbs up virtually everywhere it goes!

GM laying off 510 amidst slow Cadillac, small car sales

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

General Motors is laying off about 510 workers from two factories beginning in January, and it could be months before the automaker needs some of that latent capacity to come back on line. A combination of poor sales and high dealer inventories are prompting the cutbacks, according to Automotive News.
The largest changes come at GM's Lansing Grand River plant, where the Cadillac ATS and CTS are made. An entire shift of about 350 workers is being laid off, but the automaker hopes to find positions for some of them at other nearby factories. The decision leaves just a single shift building vehicles there. According to Automotive News, the move is partially spurred by Johan de Nysschen's plan to make Cadillac a more exclusive brand.
The lost shift will likely return for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro at the plant, according to the report, but GM isn't saying when that will be. A previous announcement from the Canadian Auto Workers union indicated that the Oshawa, Ontario, factory would lose the coupe in late 2015 or early 2016.

Why we can't have better headlights here in the U.S.

Tue, Mar 13 2018

It wouldn't be a European auto show if we weren't teased with at least one mainstream vehicle we can't have here. At the Geneva Motor Show last week, the small but vocal contingent of shooting-brake buffs lamented that the Mazda6 wagon won't be coming to our shores, although they can take comfort in the fact that the vehicle won't get the torquey 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine we'll get here. Mercedes-Benz also announced a new headlight technology in Geneva that likely won't be available here anytime soon. It's just the latest in a long line of innovative and potentially lifesaving front-lighting solutions that the federal government doesn't allow in this country due to outdated standards — and a current lack of leadership at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mercedes-Benz's new Digital Light system that debuted in Geneva uses a computer chip to activate more than a million micro-reflectors to better illuminate the road ahead. The Digital Light headlamps works with the vehicle's cameras, sensors and navigation mapping to adjust lighting for the given location and situation and to detect other road users. The Digital Light technology also serves as an extended head-up display of sorts by projecting symbols on the pavement ahead to alert drivers to, say, slippery conditions or pedestrians in the road. And it can even project lines on the road in a construction zone or through tight curves to show the driver the correct path. Digital Light will be available on Mercedes-Maybach vehicles later this year, although like any technology it's bound to trickle down to less expensive vehicles. That is, if we ever get it here in the U.S. Audi, a leader in automotive lighting, has repeatedly run into snags trying to bring state-of-the-art car headlights to the U.S. The German luxury automaker's recently introduced matrix laser headlight system, which performs many of the same trick as Mercedes-Benz's Digital Light, also isn't legal on U.S. roads. And five years after the introduction of its matrix-beam LED lighting, which illuminates more of the road without blinding oncoming motorists with brights by simultaneously operating high and low beams, Audi still can't bring that technology to the U.S. either.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be.
