Cadillac ATS coupe and sedan get Midnight Editions

Horror stories and fairy tales make a mint by having the scariest things happen at midnight, but automakers make a mint by marketing midnight. Chevrolet busted out a Silverado Midnight Edition early this year, followed shortly thereafter by an Impala Midnight Edition. In between those two we got the Cadillac CTS Midnight Edition, and now comes an ATS following in the zero-dark-thirty tradition, according to GM Inside News. The ATS Midnight Edition will add $1,695 to the sedan price and $600 to the coupe. For that cash outlay you get black chrome on the grille, around the windows, and on the rear fascia, 18-inch "After Midnight" wheels, "sueded microfiber" trim on the steering wheel and shifter, plus the Cold Weather Package with a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. Just those few exterior changes make a big difference up front, increasing the appeal and aggression of the sports sedan without being ostentatious. You can't go dark with just any old ATS, though. The package is limited to rear- and all-wheel-drive versions of the Performance trim. And the color palette is reduced to four hues: Crystal White Tricoat, Red Obsession Tintcoat, Phantom Gray Metallic, and Black Raven. The three possible interior combos are Light Platinum with Jet Black accents, Morello Red with Jet Black accents, and Jet Black with Jet Black accents. Cadillac mulling CTS Coupe successor after all

The 2014 Cadillac CTS made a big splash last week at the New York Auto Show, but now that we've seen the sedan, we can start to wonder about whether coupe and wagon versions are in the cards. According to Edmunds, Cadillac is at least considering bringing back the CTS Coupe for a second generation, which seems like an even better chance since the brand's global marketing director, Jim Vurpillat, was quoted as saying that the car was the top-selling luxury coupe in the industry.
Of course, this goes against reports we heard last year that Caddy's coupe and wagon would live on just not under the CTS name, but the interview with Vurpillat has us hopeful for a next-generation CTS Coupe. If it does come to fruition, we would expect the new two-door to have a largely unique exterior design like the current CTS Coupe, to echo that of intended rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and even the high-dollar BMW 6 Series.

2015 Cadillac Escalade gets 8-speed auto, range-topping Platinum Collection trim

The redesigned 2015 Cadillac Escalade is still quite fresh on the market, but the luxury brand has a host of mid-model-year updates for its massive luxury SUV that should make it an even better driver. The range-topping Platinum Collection (pictured above) is also all set to ensconce drivers in leather when it hits the road in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The entire Escalade range now gets an eight-speed automatic to replace the previous six-speed, and four-wheel drive models also get a two-speed transfer case to go along with it. New standard features include a Surround View camera system, 4G LTE connectivity, and the electric tailgate also now closes hands-free, in addition to opening that way.
To make riding in the Escalade an even more luxurious experience, Cadillac is adding a Platinum trim. Exterior changes add even more shine to the behemoth SUV with a grille wearing the redesigned brand crest, additional chrome trim, 22-inch wheels and Platinum badges. However, the interior is where things really get plush. The first and second row of seats are wrapped in Nappa, semi-aniline leather in a choice of either beige or gray. The dashboard, upper door panels and center console also get hand-stitched and wrapped leather, plus a suede microfiber headliner. Both front seats are heated and cooled with 18-way power adjustments, and the driver even gets a massaging function. Rear passengers are hardly left out, either, with 7-inch LCD screens in the headrests and a 9-inch screen in the center.
