1957 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 Sedan

This is a real nice looking reliable 50's Cadillac that you would be proud to drive anywhere. I have taken it to a few shows in the Chicago area and it always gets a lot of attention where ever it goes. I bought this car earlier this year and drove it back 650 seamless miles from Tennessee to Chicago; the car cruised it with no issues!  Mostly original condition, very nice driver quality - I've listed details below but please contact with questions. Selling it for a happy reason - because I just got to buy a '55 Cadillac 2dr hardtop Coupe de Ville which is going to be my 'keeper'!!

In addition to the photos, I've included links to a walk-around video and a driving videos - see below.

Mechanical

  • The 365 Cadillac V8 engine runs smooth and quiet with no smoking - just like a Cadillac should.
  • The 4 speed Hydra-matic transmission shifts great with no issues. There is evidence of a transmission fluid leak coming from the front seal though, common for 50's Cadillacs.
  • Brand-new, after-market Edelbrock carburettor - this is correct fitment for 1957 Cadillac.
  • New electric fuel pump is in operation although the original fuel pump is still present and looks intact.
  • The power brakes work well although they do pull to the left slightly. I did bleed them and changed the brake hoses for new but I think that the brake line from the master cylinder to the right side is slightly blocked and changing that would probably make the brakes pull up straight. The foot brake has been adjusted and works well.
  • Steering runs straight.
  • Heater works well - blows very hot air.
Interior
  • The interior of this car is amazing. All original in a stunning 'Glamour' (Cadillac dealer handbook term) combination of light green leather seats inserted with black brocade fabric run through with green lurex. The seats are in great condition - the fabric is as good as new condition and the leather shows some 'age' and 'wear' cracking but is in very good order.
  • The door panels too are all original to match the seats and are in excellent condition.
  • The head liner looks to be original and is in great condition with no rips or wear.
  • Interior chrome is fantastic and still has a great shine to it....even all the cigarette lighters work!
  • The carpet looks to be original and presentable, it is black in color, thin in places but not ripped.
  • The front seat is six way power and works great.
  • All the windows are electric and work great. They have original E-Z glass with no cracks. The front screen does show signs of de-lamination around the edges.
  • The AM-FM original radio works but does not tune in due to the leather tuning band breaking due to age (this can be replaced to make it function properly).
  • All the gauges work, including the trip meter. The dash lights up as it should.
  • The top of the dashboard has been replaced at some point and looks good.
  • The steering wheel is in perfect condition with no cracks and the chrome is excellent.
  • Driver's side sun visor is broken off at the hinge. The visor itself is in good condition and is provided with the car but the hinge will need a simple repair. The passenger side visor is in good condition.
  • The car comes with original spare wheel and jack with original carry case (in trunk).
Exterior
  • I have looked all over this car and the only rust I can see is a single hole, approximately 4" diameter, in the drivers side floor that would need a repair. Other that, there is just surface rust underneath.
  • The Cadillac has had a respray at some point in what looks to be the original (for 1957) Glade Green paint color.
  • All the exterior chrome on this car is very nice 'driver' quality (some surface scratches, some minor dings in a couple of spots, some pitting visible on 1 rear fin and a couple of patches). The exception is the rear bumper ends (pictured) that do require repair and a re-chrome or a replacement.
  • The stainless inside and out is very good - the distinctive Fleetwood side trim panels are excellent.
  • The window wipers do not work properly and I think it is due to old vacuum hoses that are brittle.
  • All the lights, indicators and horn work great. All lenses are in good condition with no visible cracks.
  • The tires are older wide white walls that have fine aged cracking on the walls but have good tread.

Previous History

Apparently, this car has only had 3 registered owners in 56 years! The previous registered owner told me he bought it from the widow of the original owner and had it for 26 years. During this time he used it for shows and parades; it was always looked after and had always been garaged.  In the time I have had it I have changed all the Oil/fluids, checked and bled the brakes, installed new brake hoses, greased the front end and fitted new Sway Bar Link kit.

Thanks for looking!

Wayne.

SRX-replacing Cadillac XT5 spied for the very first time

Thu, 30 Oct 2014

Cadillac has got big plans in place to revitalize its lineup, with new sedans, coupes and crossovers. And it all starts with this, the replacement for the SRX.
Expected to be called XT5 in line with the brand's new naming scheme, the crossover will be based on a scalable new platform called C1XX - or Chi, for short. In its shorter form, Chi is anticipated to underpin the XT5 as well as a new Chevy crossover and the next-gen GMC Acadia. In long-wheelbase form, the platform is slated to give us a larger Cadillac crossover as well as a new Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse.
Power in the XT5 will be provided by a choice of turbo four or atmospheric six, potentially to be transmitted through GM's new nine-speed automatic.

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns

Sun, 05 Oct 2014

Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.

Autoweek divulges details on Presidential limo

Tue, 22 Oct 2013

Ever since the latest presidential limousine, also known as The Beast, debuted in 2009, we've wondered what's underneath that black Cadillac body. We already know a few details, like the fact it isn't a Cadillac at all, but a very heavy duty truck chassis from General Motors with a body that resembles a super-sized Caddy. Autoweek, however, has managed to extract new details from veteran Secret Service agents about the closely guarded presidential limo. Their methods, of course, are classified.
Designed to be a rolling office, bunker and escape pod all in one, the current presidential limo is far different from previous presidential state cars, which were heavily modified production vehicles. As we would expect, The Beast uses thick, military-grade body armor (eight inches on the doors), an armored fuel tank, special run-flat tires with Kevlar lining, an encrypted satellite phone, a fully sealed cabin with its own oxygen supply and a trunk full of weapons and medical equipment that includes a supply of the President's blood type (in case the car gets cut off from the ambulance that's always present in the President's motorcade).
The Beast also comes with a Halon fire-suppression system, night vision and is powered by a V8 engine, which we already knew runs on gas and not diesel, that returns an EPA-unfriendly estimated 3.7 miles per gallon. The Secret Service operates a fleet of 12 limos and each Beast costs $1.5 million. Lastly, AW estimates that the 18-foot-long state car weighs 15,000 pounds, and each Secret Service agent that drives the car must be specially trained to maneuver such a massive vehicle.
