1956 Cadillac Series 60 Special 4 Door Hardtop

The Sixty Special name was used at Cadillac to denote a Special model beginning with the 1938 Harley Earl designed Series 60. Soon after, the Sixty Special name would be synonymous for some of Cadillac's most luxurious vehicles. It was Fleetwood marketed, and enjoyed higher-priced amenities, molding, trim and upholstery, etc. than its less expensive sibling the series 62.  It took over as Cadillac's most luxurious, owner-driven large model, ( as opposed to limosene models) a role it would fill through 1976. With trim inspired by the WWII Lockheed designed P-38 Lightning Fighter Aircraft, the Sixty Special featured a Bullet-Nosed front bumper, simulated side-scoops, and tail-fins patterned to resemble the P-38's vertical stabilizers. 1956 was the last year for the P-38 inspired tail fins on the rear of most Cadillacs.

This particular Cadillac has been stored for many years in indoor storage, and is in better than average condition. Air Conditionaing, Power Steering, Power Seats, and Power windows all work. Some interesting and unusual features include automatic dimming high beam lights for oncoming traffic, and 4 overhead air flow vents for passenger comfort.   I have done little to it except to wash off the dust, clean it out, install a brand new battery, start it, and drive it for short distances around the block. I figure the new owner will most likely want to take care of anything else it may need. It is a good restoration candidate, or, with very little work, it could be a good daily driver. The pictures show a pretty accurate description of its condition. It has a strong, good running 365 cu in (5.98 L) powerplant.(originally rated as producing 285 horsepower). Approximately 91,200 miles on the odometer. It runs and drives good, but will need the brakes re-worked in that they currently do not hold pressure. The Park brake works well. Some minor rust issues in the rocker panels and rear bumper, but nothing to be overly concerned about.  The floor pans and quarter panels are rust free. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, I would rate this car a solid 8 or 9 for being straight and rust-free. The driver's seat fabric has some tatters and tears.  The tires hold air and are in operable condition.  The car is located for viewing in Littleton, Co., a suburb of Denver. I have set a low reserve to ensure a sale.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Safety group pans GM’s new Marketplace in-dash shopping

Wed, Dec 6 2017

When it comes to our cars, is the Internet of Things a godsend? Or a hidden menace that will create more problems than it will solve? On the same day General Motors announced it will equip newer-model cars with its in-dash Marketplace e-commerce app, a prominent safety group was shooting it down. National Safety Council President Deborah Hersman tells Bloomberg the technology will only contribute to distracted driving and hurt efforts to stem the tide of rising auto fatalities, which grew 5.6 percent to more than 37,000 in the U.S. in 2016. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving was responsible for 3,477 fatalities and 391,000 injuries in 2015, the most recent year for which it has data. "There's nothing about this that's safe," Hersman told Bloomberg. "If this is why they want WiFi in the car, we're going to see fatality numbers go up even higher than they are now." Marketplace, developed with IBM, will allow drivers — or more often, one hopes, their passengers — to order coffee or food, find gas stations and reserve hotel rooms from their dashboard screens. The technology is set to be uploaded automatically to nearly 1.9 million GM vehicles model-year 2017 and later that are equipped with WiFi hotspots and compatible systems. By the end of 2018, about 4 million Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles will be equipped with Marketplace. The app will debut with a limited number of participating retailers, including TGI Fridays, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Starbucks, with more likely to join later. Online retail giant Amazon is also partnering with automakers such as Ford to bring e-commerce capabilities inside the car through its Alexa personal assistant. While convenience is nice, one other thing is becoming clear as the IoT wedges its way into our cars: It's taking aim at some decidedly first-world problems.Related Video: Image Credit: GM Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC Technology Infotainment in-car entertainment marketplace e-commerce

Here's what else you could buy for the average new-car price of $40,573

Fri, Jan 22 2021

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. The average price of a new car in America hit a new record in December 2020: $40,573. Not that we're surprised — the average has been over $35,000 for the past few years — but seeing that baseline figure crest 40 large is still a sticker-shock to the system. So, as we do every once in a while, we put our collective heads together and came up with a list of alternatives that you could choose to buy for that sum, new or old, classic or practical. Now, let's be crystal clear about one thing here. We're not actually recommending you make this type of decision. That said, we wouldn't blame you if you did. Managing Editor Greg Rasa: $40,000 will buy a fully loaded Camry or moderately equipped crossover. Or, for $39,997, to be exact, one could go motoring in a fine British automobile. This 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Volante in Alabama has 21,452 miles on it, and depreciation has worked its cruel magic: It is listed for less than one-quarter of its $168,000 starting MSRP when it was new. A check of other used DB9s nationwide indicates this is a fair price. This Aston's CarFax reveals two owners. (One, really, as the second was a dealership. Looks like it got traded in for a Porsche.) If you're understandably concerned about reliability, its service history indicates no surprises to date. Remember, it has a 450-horsepower 5.9-liter V12. And spring is coming. Of course a used Aston Martin is riskier than a new Camry. But as Louis Prima sang, "Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think." What price beauty? Less than $40 grand. Associate Editor Byron Hurd: This price point opens up a ton of options in the "nearly new" luxury space, including a few good enthusiast picks, but my nod here goes to the Cadillac ATS-V. The discontinued, M3/M4-rivaling, 465-horsepower sport sedan and coupe can be had all day long in this price range with low miles. In fact, the real challenge is finding one in the spec you want, since it's one of those old-fashioned cars that actually presented the buyer with choices. Here's a clean, six-speed sedan in an actual color for less than our target price, for example. Coupes are more plentiful than sedans, especially in interesting colors, but there are plenty of them out there.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
