Low Reserve - 1951 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood This is a gorgeous 1951 Cadillac “Series 60” Fleetwood Sedan, 331 V8, 56k. It was used as a movie car on several occasions. The car also won awards at local car shows. Options include fuel filler under pop-up rear tail lens, dual "trumpet" horns, clock, AM radio and power antenna. This is from Wikipedia.com: "The big news at Cadillac in 1951 centered on engineering, with the release of a new overhead valve V8 engine. This 331 in? engine produced 160 hp (119 kW). The features list included handbrake, warning lamp; key start ignition; steering column cover; Delco-Remy generator; knee-action front suspension; directionals; mechanical fuel pump; dual downdraft carburetor; slipper-type pistons; rubber engine mountings; oversize brakes; Super Cushion tires; one-piece windshield; intake silencer; 160-hp engine; oil bath air cleaner; equalized manifolding; automatic choke and luxury appointments. A larger luggage compartment lid was seen on all sedans except early production units. Standard equipment now included twin back-up lamps mounted on the deck lid latch panel. The Fleetwood models featured extra chrome accents and interior appointments, a particularly popular model among collectors." Mechanical: the Caddy has always been meticulously cared for, all service and regular maintenance have been performed on schedule. I bought the Fleetwood from a friend of the family who no longer drives, he's had it in his garage out in Long Island since the 70's. He insists the 56k on the odometer is original, my mechanic thinks it is genuine as well. The drive train was rebuilt in the mid 90's, under 10k on motor and transmission. Recent work includes brake system overhaul including brake lines and wheel cylinders, rebuilt carburetor, refurbished gas tank, fuel lines and new belts and hoses.. The lights work, the heater works, the radio works needs a new speaker. Clock does not work, horn does. The narrower whitewall radials are on the car now as seen in the bottom pix, I will include a second set of hubcaps as well. All the glass is in very good shape, the crank windows all work well. Cosmetic: It has a recent black paint job with a deep jade metal flake glitter. This was a professional paint job, the body was taken down to bare metal with no bodywork necessary. It looks amazing in the sunshine and the body as straight as an arrow. The bumpers were rechromed as well but the grill and some of the brightwork are showing light pitting. The underside is clean, frame, floor and trunk are solid. The interior was redone at some point as well but is beginning to show its age. The carpet could use replacing, driver's door armrest is beginning to curl up and there is a two inch seam opening on the bottom of the driver's seat. The headliner, dashboard and interior overall is in very good "driver" condition. The car has never seen winter, it's always been a "Garage Queen". The engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks and the garage floor is always dry when I pull the car out. She cruises nicely on the highway, shifts smoothly, idles evenly and the suspension is silky smooth over the roughest roads. On the highway she'll get 13-15 MPG, pretty good for an early 50's luxury cruiser. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights/brights work properly. Drives overall like an American classic luxury cruiser should. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. Rare classic Cadillac which will only appreciate in value! Cadillac to augment dealers with 700 'boutique' stores
Thu, Jan 22 2015Johan de Nysschen is on a mission to revitalize Cadillac. Since taking over as chief executive of the American luxury brand, the former Audi and Infiniti exec has set about moving the brand's headquarters to New York, switched advertising firms, launched a completely new naming scheme for its model line, and has a whole raft of new products planned. And now he's working on changing how its dealer network operates. Speaking at both the Washington Auto Show and the NADA dealers' convention in San Francisco this week, de Nysschen has outlined a new plan for its US dealers. The network presently consists of over 900 stores – some 200 of which are stand-alone Cadillac dealers, with the remaining 700 attached to other GM brand showrooms. Contrary to earlier fears, de Nysschen notes that the dealer network is larger and covers more territory than those of import brands, and has no intention of cutting that number down. But he is asking those 700 mixed-brand dealers to create a new showroom experience for Cadillac customers. In this latest announcement, Cadillac refers to a new model of "boutique" showrooms that will encompass new technologies, higher-trained staff and luxury amenities to give those attached Cadillac showrooms a more unique feel. The plan includes installing "virtual showroom" systems that will allow potential customers to configure a new car using interactive displays and "potentially even holograms." The plan also calls for "new standards for compensation... with more precise alignment of local sales and potential for each dealer" in order to make sure that the requisite investment in the infrastructure and staff training are worthwhile for the dealers. Just what form these new systems will take, we don't know at this point. Nor are we sure why Cadillac isn't including its 200 stand-alone "flagship" dealers in the initiative. But we're sure we'll be finding out more about de Nysschen's plans on the dealer front in due course. Cadillac Discusses U.S. Dealer Network Development 2015-01-22 WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of Cadillac's overall mission to expand and elevate within the premium automotive sector, the brand today outlined its strategy to upgrade its U.S. dealer network. Speaking at both the Washington, D.C. Auto Show today, and this weekend's annual National Auto Dealers Association convention in San Francisco, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen will outline how the brand will target enhancements in the customer experience.
NHTSA approves hybrid rearview mirror display in Cadillac CT6, Bolt EV
Tue, Feb 23 2016The Chevy Bolt EV prototype doesn't just have a fancy new all-electric powertrain. Just outside the driver's line of sight is a newfangled rearview mirror, one that can turn into a screen that shows a moving image from the rear-facing camera. Speaking to NPR's Robert Siegel yesterday, Department of Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx said that NHTSA has now approved this type of mirror/screen for use in vehicles. According to a letter from NHTSA to General Motors, GM will likely use this Full Display Mirror first in the 2016 Cadillac CT6 before coming to the Bolt. In its letter to GM, NHTSA said that the Full Display Mirror will only qualify as a standard rearview mirror as long as there are normal side mirrors in place. In other words, don't expect to see cameras and screens replacing all the mirrors in a motor vehicle just yet. @AutoblogGreen @NPR - #NHTSA has OK'd GM rear-view system that can switch between mirror & camera views. pic.twitter.com/6CBeIit10v — Anthony Foxx (@SecretaryFoxx) February 22, 2016 The Full Display Mirror was developed by Gentex, which has long worked with GM. The FDM debuted in 2014 and some people hoped it would also make its way into the Tesla Model X. Gentex, which also makes auto-dimming mirrors, says that it has "set out to develop the technologies and core competencies necessary to manage this evolution of the rearview mirror." The Chevy Bolt EV will start at $37,500, before incentives. The 200-mile EV will go into production late this year for likely sale in early 2017. Related Video:
Junkyard Gem: 1998 Cadillac Catera
Sun, Jun 7 2020Every so often, during the last few decades of the 20th century, the suits running each of the big Detroit automakers would eye their European subsidiaries and decide that some car from the other side of the Atlantic could be making dollars over here in addition to pounds or francs or Deutschmarks over there. Chrysler didn't do so well with Simca 1204s or Plymouth-badged Hillman Avengers in the American marketplace (though the Simca-based Omnirizon did very well). Ford USA moved quite a few Capris and Fiestas during the 1970s, then bombed with the Merkur Scorpio and XR4Ti. General Motors tried, over and over, to get Americans to buy Opels (some sold by Buick dealers, others actually badged as Buicks), and I still see the occasional Kadett, GT, or Manta in junkyards to this day. For the 1997 model year, still stinging from the not-so-great sales of the Turin-Hamtramck-built Cadillac Allante, GM took the Omel Omega B and applied Cadillac badges. The result was the Catera, and I found this silver '98 in a Denver self-service yard recently. The Catera had a lot going for it, with a rear-wheel-drive layout and a modern V6 engine that made more power than the BMW 528i's straight-six that year. It should have been able to compete with European luxury sedans in North America because it was a European luxury sedan. Unfortunately, you couldn't get a manual transmission in the Catera, "traditional" Cadillac shoppers thought the Catera lacked a sufficiently massive presence, and younger Cadillac buyers flocked straight to the Escalade starting in 1999. After 2001, the Catera was no more. I still find Cateras in junkyards, nearly 20 years after the last ones were sold, so they appear to have held together pretty well. This one was in nice shape until the end, with all the original manuals still in the glovebox. Even the Catera ballpoint pen remained with the car for its whole life. As we can see in the owner's manual, Cadillac marketed the Catera as "The Caddy That Zigs." The idea was that younger car shoppers would become as Cadillac-obsessed as their grandparents had been. Inspired by the ducks in the Cadillac logo, the Catera marketing team created Ziggy the Duck to pitch this car. Things didn't go so well. The Catera listed at $29,995 in 1998, about $47,600 in 2020 dollars. That made it an affordable alternative to the BMW 5-Series or Acura 3.2 TL, but total Catera sales came to fewer than 95,000 cars over five model years.
