THIS IS A RARE FIND CADILLAC ELDORADO 1980 WITH REBUILT ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, NEW UPHOLSTERY, AND NEW ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE!

IT IS A CLASSIC 1980 CADILLAC ELDORADO WITH 5.7 LITER (350 CUBIC INCH) ENGINE AND ONE OF THE CADILLAC'S FIRST 'DFI' (DIGITAL FUEL INJECTION - WITH INDIVIDUAL FUEL INJECTORS FOR EACH CYLINDER)!

IT WAS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED BY THIS 2ND OWNER (FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS!) AND HIS 'PRIVATE' MECHANIC!

IT HAS 148K ORIGINAL MILES AND IT DRIVES AS SMOOTHLY AS NEW!

ALTHOUGH IT IS A 34 YEAR OLD CLASSIC, IT IS IN ALMOST LIKE NEW MECHANICAL CONDITION! IT WAS DRIVEN ONLY ABOUT 1500 MILES IN LAST 3 YEARS SINCE THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION WERE REBUILT!

ADDITIONALLY, EVEN ALL PLASTIC BODY AND BUMPER 'SKIRTS' (WHICH DO CRACK AND DETERIORATE WITH THE AGE -- ESPECIALLY ON ALL CADILLAC MODELS OF THAT VINTAGE!) WERE ALL REPLACED - OR FIXED -- AS NEEDED!... WITH THE NEW 'REPLICA PLASTICS' TYPES, WHICH WERE MADE OF DURABLE AND 'ETERNAL' FIBERGLASS.
THEN ALL WERE REPAINTED WITH THE COMPUTER MATCHED PAINT COLOR FROM A PROFESSIONAL AUTO BODY PAINT SUPPLIER.
ALSO, ALL OTHER PLASTIC PARTS THAT WERE CRACKED FROM AGE, WERE ALSO EITHER REPLACED OR FIXED -- LESS THAN 3 YEARS AGO!

AND HERE IS ALSO THE ALMOST INCREDIBLE LIST, AND ALMOST THE COMPLETE HISTORY, OF ALL OTHER ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE OVER THE PERIOD OF THE LAST 5 - 6 YEARS ALONE. . . JUST TO GIVE AN IDEA OF HOW COMPLETE AND HOW THOROUGH THE CARE AND THE MAINTENANCE AND HOW METICULOUS THE RESTORATION HAS BEEN FOR THIS 'OLD TIMER':

* ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION REBUILT WITH TOP QUALITY PARTS -- 3 YEARS AGO, (MAX. 1500 MILES SINCE!). . .

* ALSO REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME WERE THE NEW WATER PUMP, NEW RADIATOR, NEW THERMAL FAN CLUTCH, ALL HOSES, SENSORS, ETC.

* THE ORIGINAL BENDIX AIRCRAFT TYPE HIGH PRESSURE / HIGH VOLUME, UNDER CHASSIS FUEL PUMP (REQUIRED FOR THE GM'S 1980 NEW DESIGN FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM), AS WELL AS THE PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK, AND ALL 8 FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED WITH THE CONTEMPORARY EQUIVALENTS, AND THE NEW MATCHING FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WAS ALSO REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME; SOME FUEL LINES WERE RE-ROUTED, ELECTRICAL CONTROLS AND THE HIDDEN FUEL PUMP KILL SWITCH WERE ALSO INSTALLED, ETC.

* ALSO REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME -- ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. AFTER THE ENGINE REBUILDING: A BRAND NEW DISTRIBUTOR, COMPLETE WITH ALL ON BOARD MECHANICAL AND ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS.

* BOTH FRONT AXLES / CV JOINTS AND FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO -- BUT THERE IS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THEM.

* ALL 4 DISK BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, BUT ALSO LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THEM.

* AT THE SAME TIME, ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, MOST OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THE NEW MUFFLER WERE ALSO REPLACED.

* ALL 4 BALL JOINTS, PITMAN AND IDLER ARMS, BOTH TIE-ROD-ENDS, THE ENTIRE STEERING GEARBOX/STEERING MECHANISM, THE POWER STEERING PUMP, PRESSURE HOSES, ETC. WERE ALL REPLACED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO -- ALSO WITH LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THEM.

* ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO -- WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THEM.

* THE AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR ALSO REPLACED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO (STILL ICE COLD WITH NO RECHARGE NEEDED YET!) WITH A BRAND NEW GM ORIGINAL COMPRESSOR (NOT A REBUILT ONE!), AS WELL AS WITH THE NEW AC DRIER / ACCUMULATOR, METERING / PROPORTIONING VALVE, TEMPERATURE SENSORS, ETC.

* ALSO DONE AT THE SAME TIME: COMPLETE CUSTOM REDESIGNING, REBUILDING AND REWIRING OF THE ENTIRE CLIMATE CONTROL WITH THE OFF-THE-SHELF AVAILABLE COMPONENTS. . . WITH THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB, COOL/OFF/HEAT SELECTOR SWITCH, AND THE 4 SPEED BLOWER SWITCH - ALL CONCEALED IN THE ASHTRAY (BUT EASILY VISIBLE AND REACHABLE) -- WHEN ASHTRAY IS OPEN! SORRY ABOUT THAT, SMOKERS! ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN A NON-SMOKER CAR (BOTH 1ST AND 2ND OWNER!), YOU ARE WELCOME TO IT -- BUT AS LONG AS YOU USE ANOTHER ASHTRAY, ON THE DOOR ARMREST -- INSTEAD OF ON THE DASHBOARD!
ALSO PART OF THIS PROJECT WAS THE INSTALLATION OF THE LARGE 18 INCH AUXILIARY ELECTRIC FAN IN FRONT OF THE CONDENSER / RADIATOR. IT GOES ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN A/C IS ON AND WHEN THE BLOWER MOTOR IS ON MAXIMUM, AND/OR IT CAN BE SET WITH A TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB TO KICK IN AT A SET TEMPERATURE.

* THE WINDOW MOTOR AND THE ENTIRE WINDOW LIFTING MECHANISM REPLACED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, ALSO ABOUT THE SAME TIME -- 3 YEARS AGO.

* NEW STEERING WHEEL IGNITION LOCK AND NEW KEYS INSTALLED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO.

* NEW POWER BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER REPLACED ALSO ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO.

* ALL ELECTRIC MOTORS, GEARBOXES AND MECHANICAL COMPONENTS, (2 SETS!) SOME WITH CRACKED PLASTIC HOUSINGS, FOR INDIVIDUALLY CONTROLLED 60/40 FRONT SEATS WERE REBUILT AND 'RE-FORTIFIED' WITH CUSTOM MACHINED METAL SKELETONS -- WHICH WERE 'J-B WELD'-ED TO THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC STRUCTURES AND THEN ENCASED WITH J-B WELD INTO THE CUSTOM MACHINED ALUMINUM CASINGS! THAT PROJECT BY ITSELF WAS MORE THAN A ONE WHOLE WEEK PROJECT -- WHILE THE SEATS WERE BEING RE-UPHOLSTERED!

* FRONT SEATS AND ARMRESTS PROFESSIONALLY UPHOLSTERED IN MATERIALS AND COLORS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL MATCHED WITH THE ORIGINALS. THIS WAS DONE ABOUT 2 YEARS AND.

* NEW SUPER HEAVY DUTY 100 AMP ALTERNATOR -- WITH A SPECIAL HEAVY DUTY STATOR WINDINGS - CUSTOM ASSEMBLED BY THE PROFESSIONAL REBUILDING SHOP (INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL 80 AMPS WINDING ON THOSE ALTERNATORS!). THIS WAS DONE ABOUT A YEAR AGO.

* NEW STARTER (WITH SOLENOID) REPLACED ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO.

* HIDDEN SENSOR / TRANSMITTER, WITH WIRELESS DIGITAL TEMPERATURE ('PORTABLE') DISPLAY INSTALLED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO! THIS IS FOR ON-DEMAND REAL TIME MONITORING OF THE 'REAL TEMPERATURE (FAHRENHEIT / CELSIUS) -- INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL 'RED LIGHT' ONLY ON THE DASHBOARD.

* ALL NEW 'AIR-SPRING' LIFTERS -- 2/EACH FOR THE ENGINE HOOD AND THE TRUNK LID WERE INSTALLED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO! (THERE IS ALSO AN EXTRA ONE FOR FUTURE REPLACEMENT -- AS SOMETIMES THEY TOO ARE HARD TO FIND!)

* NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND EGR VALVE, INSTALLED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO WHICH MADE IT PASS THE SMOG TEST WITH EXTREMELY LOW POLLUTION READINGS -- ASSURING THAT IT WILL PASS MANY MORE SMOG TESTS IN THE FUTURE!

* BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER -- REPLACED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO.

* NEW HEAVY DUTY 650 COLD CRANKING AMPS BATTERY -- REPLACED ONLY ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO!

* THE CAR WAS ALSO SMOGGED AND REGISTERED FOR 2014, 3 MONTHS AGO.

IN SHORT, THIS SUPERBLY PRESERVED CAR IS IN AN ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION, AND IT IS READY TO GO!

AND HERE IS SOMETHING ELSE THAT JUST CAME TO MIND: THIS 'NOT-RUN-OF-THE-MILL' CAR HAS A VERY POWERFUL 'FIAM' DUAL AIR HORNS INSTALLED (SOUNDING LIKE AN ITALIAN SPORTS CAR!) - TO REPLACE THE 'STANDARD' ONE!

IT TRULY MUST BE SEEN & DRIVEN TO BE APPRECIATED!

WELL, ALL THOSE THINGS ABOVE (AND MANY MORE!) IS WHAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE PAST!

THE PRESENT REALITY IS THAT IT NEEDS TO BE SOLD - FAST!

SO, JUST LOWERED THE PRICE AS IT NEEDS TO BE SOLD NOW!

... AND LOWERED THE PRICE AGAIN!!!

... ALTHOUGH THE PRICE OF THESE IS ONLY GOING UP WITH TIME... AND THIS INVESTMENT CAN BE DRIVEN DAILY, IN THE MEANTIME!

SO THE ASKING PRICE NOW IS ONLY $6500, WHICH WILL NOT EVEN COVER A FRACTION OF WHAT MONEY, TIME, AND EFFORT, HAS BEEN INVESTED INTO IT, BUT ANY SERIOUS AND REASONABLE OFFER WILL BE CONSIDERED . . . AS AFTER ALL THESE 20+ YEARS IT REALY MUST BE SOLD ASAP!

LOCAL PICKUP ONLY - OR WILL DELIVER WITHIN 50 MILES FREE.

Cadillac Elmiraj Concept brings big coupe style to Pebble Beach [w/videos]

Thu, 15 Aug 2013

Two years ago, Cadillac absolutely floored us with the debut of its gorgeous Ciel concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. And since that droptop four-door's debut, we've seen plenty of its design language worked into the latest Cadillac products. Now, we're seriously hoping that history will repeat itself with this stunning new Elmiraj coupe concept, which makes its first public appearance in Monterey this week.
Cadillac states that the Elmiraj concept simply showcases the next step forward for the brand's Art & Science design DNA, and doesn't necessarily preview an upcoming model. But if you told us the Elmiraj was a conceptual look at the next-generation CTS Coupe, or a smaller, two-door version of a new flagship, we'd believe you. At 207 inches long, 76 inches wide and 55 inches tall, its dimensions are only slightly larger than the current two-door CTS.
Regardless of what the Elmiraj does or does not become, it's certainly a fantastic modern interpretation of the classic GT formula with its short front overhang, long hood, rakish roofline and petite rear deck. The strong character lines running along the sides and exaggerated 22-inch wheels round out the beautiful coupe, and Cadillac's signature vertical LED lighting elements are found at the front and rear. Also take note: the badge on the grille is a crest without a wreath, basically confirming our earlier report.

Driving the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V at the old Elkhart Lake road course

Wed, Jun 24 2015

The placid community around Elkart Lake, WI, looks about as far removed from a glorious motorsport venue as you can imagine. A turn of the century downtown gives way to old-school resorts, beaches, and boat launches around the picturesque lake, with farms framing the rolling hills all around. But it was those very same meandering country lanes that gave birth to one of America's greatest racing circuits, some 65 years ago. Between the first race in 1950 and the opening of the dedicated Road America track in 1956, the roads around Elkhart Lake provided the setting for some great post-war racing. Competing on public streets was ultimately outlawed across the country, but not before drivers risked life and limb in the name of glory in the Wisconsin summer. Cadillac asked us out to the area recently, not to talk racing history, but to look forward at one of the most track capable cars the company has ever offered: the 2016 CTS-V. We got to drive the 640-horsepower beastie for an entire morning of hot laps at Road America, but unfortunately, we're not allowed to tell you about all of that right now. You'll have to wait until the embargo lifts on August 3, at which point we promise a full recounting of our adventure. Having the CTS-V for a full two days though, and in the spirit of the motorsport that imbues the air in Elkhart Lake, we took the Cadillac on a drive around the old 6.5-mile road course. Come for the new Caddy, but stick around to find out what the hell Wacker's Wend is. Cadillac Luxury Performance Videos

Weekly Recap: Auto execs face life in prison for recall delays under proposed legislation

Sat, 09 Aug 2014

The stiff punishments are part of broader transportation legislation, but clearly McCaskill has automakers in her sights.
Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill threw down the gauntlet this week, proposing a bill that could send auto executives to prison for life if they were found to have delayed a recall. She also wants to eliminate the limit for fines for auto safety violations, which are currently capped at $35 million.
