Up for auction is a 1978 Cadillac Eldorado coupe, last year for the full size Cadillac and it's been family owned since new and now up for sale. My uncle bought this car new in 1978 from Phil Mahalic Cadillac in Purdue Indiana. My uncle who had many Cadillacs only drove this car in spring and summer and it was his favorite so it was garaged with the intent that it be a special collector item one day. He stoped driving it all together in 1985 and that's when it's was last on the road and had legal license plates. He parked it in his 6 car garage, pulled the battery, and that's where it sat until his death in 2008 where it was left to me in his will. The car has 30680 original miles on it and that's not a typo folks, it's the actual mileage. The car now is only on it's second set of tires in it's life and the exhaust is still the factory GM one with part numbers still easy to read. It has the original paint, engine, trans, and interior. Only parts that aren't original are the rubber fender extensions, belts, hoses, radiator, and heater core. Those all had to be replaced due to the car sitting almost 25 years without ever running or being drove. The interior is mint and everything works as it should. I don't even think the back seats were ever used and the original carpet and upholstery are like new. The dash is in perfect condition as well, so does the fiber optics, and even the factory power antenna still works!

Upon taking possession of the car in the summer of 2008 and having it towed to my home in the Chicago area, I have spent the past 5 years in restoring it and making it road worthy. I have over $4000 dollars in actual receipts from my local vintage auto repair shop who specializes in working on older vehicles like this. Serious buyers can even call them to verify the work and they're quite familiar with the car. You can contact me for info on this if you're serious about buying. There's been so much done to the car to try and make it like it was in 1978 and once it got back on the road and in driving condition, a few problems popped up that are fairly normal for a car that had been sitting for so long.

So far this is the list and I may be missing something. Battery, belts, hoses, full tune up. Gas tank and fuel lines flushed several times to remove sentiment build up, new inline filters installed, carb rebuilt and properly jetted. Radiator and heater core had to be replaced due to build up and leakage when car started running again. As I said, my uncle just parked it in his garage in the mid 80's, pulled the battery, covered her up, and there she sat.

Transmission was resealed due to leakage. Steering gearbox resealed, 2 leaking power steering lines replaced, front end parts that were not in specs were replaced and car just had an alignment. Full brake service was done and original rotors were re machined. This was the cars first brake job! My goal was to drive this to local car shows in my area and I wanted to make it road worthy where I could trust it. Car runs and drives like a dream and it's ready for a road trip! The AC is still R12 and blows cold as it did from 1978!

As for the body it was clean and rust free. The only problem was the GM plastic front and rear fender extensions that are famous for just rotting away. I spent a grand on a complete set that is made in America and out of high quality ABS plastic. I took it to a Cadillac body shop where these parts were fitted properly then painted to match. Then the whole car was buffed out and the original paint sealed. It is simply beautiful when you see how bright and flawless the paint is once out in the sunlight. There's not one spot of rust on this car and the chrome is in perfect condition. All the jambs are perfect like they were from the factory and the fit of the panels, hood, and truck are just as great. I have had this car professional appraised twice for insurance purposes and it lists at $10K with a high of $15K. Both appraisers said the car is in impressive condition and just beautiful. I doubt you will find too many in this condition and road worthy as this. I would drive this car anywhere, but keep in mind it's 35 years old and with old cars, you never can tell.

There's no warranty or guarantees of any kind and all sales are final! Please serious bidders only and if you have any questions please ask and we can even talk over the phone if needed. Plus if you're serious I can get you in contact with the auto shop that has done all the work the past 5 years and has been in business since 1970.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.

GM to build $1.3 billion Cadillac plant in China

Wed, 08 May 2013

General Motors has gotten approval to build a $1.3 billion manufacturing facility for its Cadillac brand in China. China's National Development and Reform Commission signed off on plans for GM to build the plant in the country's Shanghai's Jinqiao zone; construction is expected to begin in June of this year. According to a Bloomberg report, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
No surprise here, but Cadillac would like to sell a lot more cars in the plush Chinese luxury market. The brand moved only 30,010 cars in China last year, compared with 400k for Audi, and about 330k for BMW. With Cadillac already telling us that it would be moving production of its XTS sedan to China - a production decision that saves having to pay 25-percent import tariffs - approval of the factory is a critical win for the company.
In fact, according to earlier comments by GM China president Bob Socia, it's at least conceivable that Chinese-built Cadillacs could be shipped back to the US for sale. The brave new world of globalization, getting stranger by the minute.

What will the next Presidential limo look like?

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

With recent news that the Secret Service has begun soliciting proposals for a new armored limousine, we've been wondering what the next presidential limo might look like. The current machine, nicknamed "The Beast", has a design based on a car that's no longer sold: the Cadillac DTS. If General Motors gets the job again, which wouldn't be a surprise considering the government still owns a chunk of the company, the next limo's shape would likely resemble the new XTS (below, left). But Cadillac hasn't always been the go-to car company for presidential whips.
Lincoln has actually provided far more presidential limousines throughout history than Cadillac. In fact, the first car modified for Commander-in-Chief-carrying duty was a 1939 Lincoln K-Series called "Sunshine Special" used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the last Lincoln used by a president was a 1989 Town Car ordered for George H.W. Bush. If President Obama wanted a Lincoln today, it would likely be an amalgam of the MKS sedan and MKT crossover, as illustrated above.
And what about Chrysler? The only record we could find of a President favoring the Pentastar is Nixon, who reportedly ordered two limos from the company during his administration in the '70s, and then another one, known today as the "K-Car limo," in the '80s after he left office. Obama, however, has a personal - if modest - connection to Chryslers, having owned a 300 himself before he took office. A 300-based Beast (above, right) would certainly earn the U.S. some style points.
