1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz - Triple Yellow - Beautiful! on 2040-cars

Year:1978 Mileage:54088
Location:

Dallas, Texas, United States

This is a head-turning example of a 1978 Eldorado Biarritz, the last of a breed. I bought this vehicle about 4 years ago after searching high and low for a triple yellow Biarritz. It had about 42K miles on it when I purchased it, now has 54K miles. This is a fantastic riding and driving car, very original with just maintenance items as would typically be needed for a car that is 36 years old. The paint is new and is a high-quality respray that came in at a cost of over $8,000 total. The fender extensions were replaced at the time of the repaint. The pin striping was replicated in the original color and pattern and is hand-painted instead of tape and looks very nice.

The interior is in very good condition as well with very little wear. All power accessories work, including the clock, cruise, auto-dimming headlights, etc. The only thing I am aware of that doesn't work are the power seatback releases, which do not appear to have the wires attached. So, the seats just have to be released with the button on the seatback. The leather, carpets, headliner, etc look very nice as well, and the am/fm/8-track/CB radio works as well. Air conditioning blows cold and the heater is hot and it is all automatic climate control, of course.

The 425 Cadillac engine starts every time and runs very smoothly with no issues. The transmission and rest of the drivetrain, brakes, etc all function as you would expect in a top of the line Cadillac. The auto-leveling rear suspension has no issues and keeps the rear end level regardless of the load in the trunk. I have taken this car on several road trips and wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere tomorrow.

GM intends to offer semi-autonomous vehicles by 2020

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

Prepare for a few years of technological saber-rattling, as the world's automakers begin pushing to bring self-driving cars to market. Earlier this week, Nissan announced that it aims to offer autonomous vehicles by 2020, while Google, BMW and several other marks are working on similar efforts.
General Motors is doing things differently, though. Rather than push for a fully autonomous car, it's continuing to refine its semi-autonomous Super Cruise, a product that we tested in April 2012 and that will eventually see use on some Cadillacs before trickling down to the rest of the General Motors family. Super Cruise, which is undergoing testing in the Cadillac SRX, doesn't take complete control out of the driver's hands. Rather, under a very specific set of circumstances on the freeway, it will marry the capabilities of things like lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control to allow the driver to take their hands off the wheel. All of which sounds a lot like the system Mercedes-Benz is launching on the 2014 S-Class.
The system is still in development, according to John Capp, GM's director of electrical controls and active safety technology. Now that that the biggest hurdle, steering control, has been cleared, GM's engineers can focus on things like teaching the system to adapt to differing road conditions and visibility levels. As we reported in 2012, Super Cruise is still befuddled in low-visibility situations or when road markings aren't particularly clear.

J.D. Power: Mini, Lexus again offer most satisfying sales experience

Thu, 29 Nov 2012

JD Power has released its annual Sales Satisfaction Index Study, and once again Mini and Lexus have taken top honors. Overall, buyers are more satisfied with the auto-buying sales experience than they were last year, with those surveyed reporting an average score of 664 points on a 1,000-point scale. That's up from 648 in 2011. Dealer satisfaction also increased by five points over last year as well.
All told, Lexus brought home an index score of 737, which was high enough to put it atop the luxury brands for the second year in a row. JD Power says Infiniti came in second in that category with a score of 728 and Cadillac rounded out the podium with it's rating of 725. Speaking of Infiniti, that brand saw the single largest jump in sales satisfaction of any brand on the survey, popping up 52 index points over 2011.
Among mass-market brands, Mini ranked highest with a score of 712, followed closely by Buick with 706 and GMC farther down the line with 683. You can check out the full press release below for more information.

Cadillac could 'flourish' in Australia, says marketing chief

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Cadillac might have its best product mix in recent history, and GM's luxury brand is looking to expand. In fact, it might even be making a trip Down Under, at least according to the company's global marketing chief.
Uwe Ellinghaus spoke with Australian site Car Advice at the Geneva Motor Show and said the brand could be quite successful there. "[The] goodwill that the Cadillac brand has is such a good starting base that once we get proper volume commitment and a dealer network behind it we can easily flourish," he said, though he warned that the plans are still in their earliest stages and years away. First, Cadillac will expand in markets with the highest possible sales, like China and Russia.
Ellinghaus said that the most likely models for Oz would be the SRX, Escalade and CTS; the latter would probably act as a replacement for the Holden Commodore. GM's Australian arm is ending local production in 2017, and there have been many rumors about what is happening to the big sedan. However, Ellinghaus admits exporting cars from the US to Australia is going to mean higher prices. In addition to the expense, Cadillac doesn't currently build any right-hand-drive models. It would likely take until the end of the decade before the Aussie models could be ready.
