1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

One of the purposes of studying history is to find iconic symbols that represent a certain period of that moment in history.  We all know that after World War II, Americans were very proud and decided to flaunt it in their automotive design.  As the years went on the cars got bigger, more elaborate, with more accessories and special colors.  The 1978 Cadillac was probably the last in the series of post-war design that represent that momentum.

Keep in mind that during the late 1970s, incomes were high, taxes were low and the automotive manufacturers could afford to put in the excesses that were desirable and expected and that the wealthy could afford.  Just look to the interior of this car for sale, there is no way it could be more posh and elaborate.  It is made with the finest leather with the goal of having the most comfortable car seats ever put into a car.  Even though these cars were expensive for a traveling salesman, in the 1970s many used these cars because they could drive for 12-14 hours a day and still be somewhat refreshed after driving all day.  There is no question that the 1978 Cadillac Eldorado is one of the most comfortable cross country American cars ever produced.

The car that you see before you is a car that has always been kept by the most fastidious owners and the car has absolutely minimum wear.  While the pictures make the car look like it is brand new, of course there is some slight wear here and there but as you can see it is not even picked up by the camera.

So this is the car that made the two-tone brown color scheme the trend for the next five or six years on all cars from Detroit and also is the color scheme of the car used for the 1978 Cadillac Eldorado sales brochure.  Everybody loved the subtleties’ of the colors and this is by far the favorite color scheme for the 1978 Cadillac Eldorado.

Most car collectors love a big, long hood and certainly the 1978 Cadillac Eldorado used that formula for its great success.  You can drive this car over the roughest road and think you are on a newly resurfaced highway, that is how smooth these huge cars roll out the bumps.

We know that Cadillac Eldorados of all years are especially popular in Australia, New Zealand and Sweden and we do require that foreign bidders get permission a head of time to bid but we do work with all out of country buyers to make a smooth transaction.

Today many of the options on this car were just coming out on the luxury cars of the 1970s; such as electronic level control, thermostatically controlled air conditioning, rear window defoggers, four wheel disc brakes and Twilight Sentinel along with a security alarm system, tilt telescopic steering wheel, sunroof and CB radio just to name a few.

This car also includes new tires, new battery, owner and shop manual along with a CB manual (during the 1970s having a CB radio was as close to a cell phone as you could get).

To top all this off the original car has only 33,425 original miles.

Cadillac won't replace XTS after 2019

Mon, Apr 6 2015

Cadillac wouldn't be Cadillac without a large sedan, but the definition of just which model fits that bill changed last week. Before the New York Auto Show, that role fell to the XTS. After the New York Auto Show, though, the focus shifted to the CT6. So what's to become of the XTS now that the CT6 has emerged? According to the latest intel, it'll live out the rest of its lifecycle until around 2019, but then drive off to its own funeral like so many limousines and hearses that were built off its platform. This was learned based on comments made by Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen at the closed-door unveiling of the CT6 in Manhattan: "Ultimately, a car like XTS when it reaches the end of its lifecycle, will not be replaced." That'll be bad news for the livery business that – in the post-Town Car era – has come to rely on the XTS as the basis for its stretch jobs. "We will not have a car that will lend itself to these kind of modifications and we will probably withdraw from those markets," de Nysschen told GM Inside News. That's not all the new Cadillac boss had to say, though: he also indicated that the replacements for the ATS and CTS will be positioned differently from the current models: "As we move into the future refining our sedan portfolio, there will be no direct successor to the CTS. There will be no direct successor to the ATS. There is no point to renaming those cars because in the future those cars will disappear." Based on Johan's comments and those we've heard until now, we'd expect the replacement for the ATS to move down a size to take on the likes of the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA, and the CTS' successor to move down half a size class as well to give the new CT6 a bit more breathing room, and possibly an even larger flagship sedan to be positioned above them all. Cadillac rushing update for laggy CUE infotainment system

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

BMW's innovative iDrive was introduced in 2001, and a dozen years later, automakers are still learning hard lessons about what consumers want in their infotainment systems. In response to owner feedback - and a few media drubbings - about the delayed and occasionally fickle responses of its CUE (short for Cadillac User Experience) system, Cadillac has told Wired that it's going to issue an update this year.
Coming for the XTS and ATS, the new software will mean quicker haptic feedback to driver inputs on the touchscreen and the buttons, and snappier responses on screen. Down the road, Cadillac's VP of marketing says that a different mix of screen controls and hard buttons is "something you'll be seeing in the future" - the system is presently a mix of touchscreen-based controls and capacitive-touch switchgear - there are no knobs or physical pushbuttons to speak of, and the omission of both has proven to be a divisive issue among consumers and industry pundits.
Cadillac hasn't provided a date for when the CUE update will be issued, but it has indicated that the service will be performed by dealers, not sent wirelessly.

Cadillac mulling CTS Coupe successor after all

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

The 2014 Cadillac CTS made a big splash last week at the New York Auto Show, but now that we've seen the sedan, we can start to wonder about whether coupe and wagon versions are in the cards. According to Edmunds, Cadillac is at least considering bringing back the CTS Coupe for a second generation, which seems like an even better chance since the brand's global marketing director, Jim Vurpillat, was quoted as saying that the car was the top-selling luxury coupe in the industry.
Of course, this goes against reports we heard last year that Caddy's coupe and wagon would live on just not under the CTS name, but the interview with Vurpillat has us hopeful for a next-generation CTS Coupe. If it does come to fruition, we would expect the new two-door to have a largely unique exterior design like the current CTS Coupe, to echo that of intended rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and even the high-dollar BMW 6 Series.
