1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham on 2040-cars
Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States
This 1958 Eldorado Brougham, #537, is a rust free California/Colorado example that has been professionally restored to show quality condition.
The previous owner was a Cadillac collector, with 100+ cars and this was the last one he sold before his passing. He is the one who had the car modernized with a 500ci Eldorado V-8, a TH400 transmission and a later model Cadillac front clip, complete with disc brakes. I believe that he also had the car rewired and all of those changes now have less than 5,000 miles on them. From all outward appearances, the car is stock. The ONLY giveaway, without opening the hood, is the column mounted transmission shift indicator that you’ll see in one of the pix.
As a result of the excellent job that was done on the car, and because it has been meticulously maintained since then, it is 100% roadworthy. It tracks effortlessly down the road, straight as an arrow at plus freeway speeds, as solid as a rock, just like when it was hand built 56 years ago, along with the 303 other Broughams. The big 500 is smooth as silk, quiet as a church mouse, and the transmission shifts flawlessly.
I’m sure that it was the intent of that California collector to have a car that would be not only reliable, but would also be the only one being regularly driven and enjoyed on the hiway. I believe that this is the ONLY Brougham being driven on a regular, fair weather basis and I have also chosen to just drive it and enjoy it. Needless to say, it’s quite an attention getter!
I never intended to part with it, but things change, and now it’s time to pass it along to another caretaker who will give it the love and respect it deserves.
If you’d like, I’ll personally drive the Brougham to your doorstep in the lower 48. Or you could fly in to Colo Spgs and have all the fun by driving it home yourself. For a 2-1/2+ ton tank, it gets pretty good gas mileage and handles great.
Included will be a set of black stanchions and chromed plastic chain for roping off the car at shows, plus a giant artist’s easel for displaying your informative sign at eye level at car shows.
Please call Martin at 719-473-2655, or email for my delivery terms, or for other questions/comments

Cadillac, Daimler execs take swipes at Tesla
Tue, Apr 22 2014Despite the financial ties between Daimler and Tesla Motors, at least one Mercedes exec thinks the electric automaker doesn't have a bright future. And over at Cadillac, the message is that Tesla doesn't pose a threat but offers the luxury arm of General Motors more of classroom experience. The Mercedes story runs like this. Mercedes-Benz USA president and CEO, Steve Cannon, said at the New York Auto Show last week that Tesla has "no network" and only offers "little shops that don't have service capacity." He also said: "Folks are buying a Tesla now because they're kind of cool, but if you're a Tesla buyer, you have to have multiple cars. With Mercedes, you have a whole network. You've got no worries. ... Tesla is great, but you've got plenty of well-established brands that mean luxury, like Porsche or Mercedes-Benz, and how long do you think we're going to wait and let Tesla be out there alone [selling premium electric cars]?" "Treehuggers do not buy new luxury cars" – Uwe Ellinghaus For Cadillac's global chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus, Tesla's EV success represents little other than "a great opportunity and a learning exercise for all of us, and will help us traditional manufacturers to think twice about electric mobility." He added that, "I am not afraid of Tesla. ... There is no willingness to really sacrifice on the traditional qualities of a luxury car. These are not cars for treehuggers, as treehuggers do not buy new luxury cars." Ellinghaus made the comments during a panel discussion at the 2014 Automotive Forum. Perhaps the lesson of Tesla's offer of free Supercharging to Model S owners is what led to Cadillac to recently announce a deal with Chargepoint that gives ELR drivers access to that company's 16,500 charging stations. Read more details on that below. Cadillac and ChargePoint Bring EV Customer Luxury Driving Experience World's largest, most open electric vehicle charging network available to ELR drivers 2014-04-16 NEW YORK – Cadillac today announced a partnership with ChargePoint, the largest and most open electric vehicle-charging network in the world. The collaboration brings Cadillac ELR drivers immediate access to more than 16,500 charging locations on the ChargePoint network. The ELR electrified luxury coupe went on sale at the end of 2013. It embodies Cadillac's Art & Science design philosophy, combining provocative design with progressive technology.
Cadillac's de Nysschen takes aim at Porsche 911, Cayenne
Mon, Nov 24 2014Johan de Nysschen has big plans for Cadillac. He's moved the brand from Detroit to New York, revamped its model nomenclature, and planning a raft of new models for the near future – including a $250,000 luxury sedan to take on the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. But the veteran executive of luxury automakers has some more performance-oriented machinery in mind, too. Speaking with Car and Driver at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week, de Nysschen suggested Cadillac could be ready to launch a flagship sports car sometime in the next decade. The halo model would take aim at the Porsche 911 and do for Cadillac what Audi did with the R8, Mercedes is doing with the AMG GT and Acura once did (and is aiming to do again) with the NSX. Just what form it would take remains a big unknown, but de Nysschen indicated that the brand would need to be built up further before the sports car would be launched, lest it emerge too detached from Cadillac's image. The last time Cadillac delved into that territory was with the Corvette-based XLR, of which it sold only 15,000 or so examples – far below initial targets. The 911 rival isn't the only performance model de Nysschen has in mind, however. He plans to further expand the V series into a more substantial sub-brand to include a crossover to take on the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, BMW X5 M and all those many AMG-tuned Mercedes utilities. The idea of an entry-level model to slot in below the ATS was mooted as well. A range of diesel engines are slated to help Cadillac break into overseas markets in similar fashion to how Maserati has expanded its market reach with oil-burning versions of the Ghibli and Quattroporte. And we wouldn't be surprised to see Cadillac get in on a new flagship SUV being launched by Opel in Europe, either.
Cadillac to bolster CT sedans with XT crossovers
Wed, 01 Oct 2014Cadillac is moving swiftly to change up its naming scheme. Barely over a week ago we received our first indication that it was considering a different name its the upcoming flagship sedan previously known as LTS. Then Cadillac not only revealed the model would be called CT6, but announced that it would set the stage with a massive overhaul of its model nomenclature. And now we have another piece of the puzzle.
According to Forbes, Cadillac will not only rename its sedans with the letters CT, but will realign its utility vehicles under the banner of XT - both to be followed by a number indicating its place in the lineup. The one exception will be the Escalade, whose nameplate has such a strong following that it would be foolish for Cadillac to cast it aside. That leaves only the SRX (pictured above), but makes room for a new crop of crossovers said to be in the works.
It's a similar approach which Cadillac's new boss Johan de Nysschen took in revising the naming scheme at Infiniti. While it's bound to ruffle some feathers and scratch some heads in the beginning - especially since the company's current flagship sedan is called XTS - it's equally sure to make sense of it all in the long run. All we need to know now is what Nysschen and his marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus plan to call the coupes.
