One of the rarest of the 1950's production 2 Door Cadillacs (second only to the Biarritz Convertible version of this car). The 1956 Eldorado Seville had a total of 3,900 units made. The vehicle apparently had  a history if  notoriety in So Cal in the 60's, and was painted purple and Decked and Nosed when I bought her.  Design-wise,  this  model's  front 66% is the same as any Series 62 Caddy with some minor exceptions. This makes parts super common for most of the components. There are a few exceptions - The Eldorados came stock with the Dual Quad (2 Four Barrel Carbs) set up, and the super coveted Batwing Air Cleaner. I have all of the rare unobtainiom parts, although a number of them will require some help. The vehicle is externally very rust free for its age. There is only has a minor bit of rust in the driver's side rear quarter. The floor pans do have some rust holes, but I have purchased the replacement panels, which will come with the car. So... To give you an idea as to what I was thinking for this car... I have spent some absurd money on a few things... First off, after I bought this car... I bought a parts car that had all of the rare stuff still on it... This car was deep into the swamp in Louisiana. My (now) Wife and I flew into Houston and drove 4 or 5 hours to this remote area and spent 5 hours stripping the car. The main reason I spent the $1,500 on this hulk was the Batwing Air Cleaner... It was super solid, and the best example I had seen... I spent an additional $1200 on the restoration and painting of this piece (essentially $2,700 to make the nicest Batwing Air Cleaner ever). The other piece I had to have from this unit was the Radiator Support... IT WAS UN-CUT!!!!!! I had been told that unless a car was put out of commission extremely early in its life,  this part would be cut with a saw almost 100% of the time, because it was much easier to remove the engine that way. From my experience, this is true, I have never seen a 55 or 56 with an intact Support (besides mine), and many GM units of this era are permanently scarred with this mod. The downside, is as you can see, you have to pull the fenders to remove the engine, they need to be installed again... Speaking of the Engine. It is a JOE REATH Motor!!! God Rest His Soul. He was a friend of a friend in the neighborhood... Needless to say, the extensive machining and rebuilding of this original 365 engine was not allocated a "good guy deal", which I am actually really happy about now, as financial issues were very impactful at the end of his life, and continue to impact his wife to this day. I installed the engine and trans and lit her off on the garden hose in 2008. I ran her for 1/2 hour to break the cam in. I had a temporary driver side exhaust set up from the manifold due to the need to route around the prototype Wilcap adapter. The transmission installed was one of the highest level Bow-tie Overdrives 700-R4 units available. the TVR Cable still needs to be set up. The original trans was rebuilt, to the tune of $2,100 and comes with it as well. My plan was to put her on Air Bags and put her on the ground. Therefore, I have it set up with a two piece driveshaft with center support bearing. The interior is in okay condition, I have a perfect dash pad that comes with it, but it will require dying. Power trunk closer worked like a charm when I used it. One of the Dagmars has been rechromed (can't remember now why not both, but I bet it was financial). I have also had the headliner support structure powder coated black. Anyway, this has been a major attraction for visitors to my house, as it sits prominently in our back yard and I will really miss it, but my wife HATES this car. Any way, we have multiple properties, and I will be more than happy to keep this rare girl in the family if needed... Just not in this state. 50's Caddies have become much more rare in the 10+ years I have owned it, this is not your average Coupe Deville... I have a bunch of other parts that come with it, but I will have to gather between now and time of sale... If you're local to Long Beach, I will be happy to let you take a good look at her... Thanks.

Additionally, this will include, at least 6 Sabre wheels, complete grille, new set of taillights, 4 rear bumper ends, and that Olds 303 Rocket and stand shown in the picture if you want.

GM outlines strategy for new products, growth in China

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

"Our strategic plan is a pathway to earn customers for life and create significant shareholder value in the process." - Mary Barra
General Motors laid out ambitious plans on Wednesday to become the world's "most valued automotive company," a goal it says it can reach by strengthening its business in China, rebuilding the Cadillac luxury brand and fixing the foundering GM Europe operations.

2016 Cadillac ELR gets more power, $9,000 price drop

Wed, Apr 15 2015

Cadillac has announced a series of updates to the ELR for 2016 that promises to make the plug-in hybrid luxury coupe a more desirable proposition. Perhaps chief among them is a price drop of $9,005 compared to the slow-selling 2014 model. The news follows an announcement yesterday that the Chevy Spark would get a $1,500 price drop. Cadillac is quoting a net price for the updated ELR at $58,495, which is obviously substantially less than the $75k it was asking for the previous version. But it's important to note that the new price is listed after US federal tax credits. The 2014 model came in at $67,500 after the full $7,500 tax credit, so math tells us that Cadillac has slashed the price on the 2016 ELR rather dramatically by about nine grand with a new MSRP of $65,995. One big upgrade on the performance front is a 25-percent boost in output from the hybrid powertrain that marries a pair of electric motors to a 1.4-liter inline-four gasoline-burning generator. The increase is said to be enough to drop 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 time, now quoted at 6.4 seconds. It'll travel for up to 39 miles on electric mode alone, but with the generator spooled up will go up to 330 miles before needing to stop. The engine management software has also been updated and the regenerative braking system reconfigured as well, but GM's luxury division didn't stop at the powertrain, fitting the 2016 ELR with a raft of other enhancements. Visually there's a new grille with the marque's latest emblem embedded. The suspension has been stiffened, the steering recalibrated and the brakes optimized for better feel. Cadillac is also throwing in the previously optional Driver Assistance package of active safety systems as standard, with adaptive cruise control available as an option. And the infotainment system comes with OnStar, 4G LTE connectivity and on-board Wi-Fi. There's even a Performance Package available with 20-inch performance tires offering 10-percent better lateral grip, four-piston Brembo brake calipers up front to help reducing stopping distances by 12 percent, recalibrated dampers and steering and a thicker-rimmed steering wheel. Because of the higher rolling resistance tires, however, the Performance Package kills four miles off of the electric driving range.

Cadillac president de Nysschen says electrification coming 'across the spectrum'

Thu, Jan 22 2015

We like to pick on new Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen for his insistence, many years ago, when he was president of Audi of America, that plug-in vehicles are for idiots. Listening to him give the keynote address at the Washington Auto Show today, you wouldn't know he ever said anything negative about an electric vehicle. Instead, he sounds something like a EV-angelist. De Nysschen said that Cadillac will be able to benefit from GM's considerable expertise in plug-in technology, which he said would be "applied across the spectrum of our portfolio." GM's electric committment will help in "making electrification commonplace." With the plug-in ELR already on the road, de Nysschen said that the company's next step in advancing powertrains will be the introduction of stop/start technology – which de Nysschen called an "important system to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions" – into a Cadillac for the first time later this year. Without giving any specific details, de Nysschen said that Cadillac will introduce eight new models (not necessarily plug-ins) by the end of this decade, including five that "will take Cadillac into market segments where the brand is not even present today." These new vehicles will likely be much lighter than today's vehicles, de Nysschen said, because "weight reduction today is critical to automotive design, it helps to improve fuel efficiency and contributes to desireable vehicle dynamics." The key is to reduce weight without compromising safety or comfort and to use the right material – steel, aluminum, carbon fiber – in the right place at the right time. It was a not-so-subtle jab at Ford and its new aluminum F-150. "In the pursuit of weight reduction, some manufacturers have also opted for abandoning steel and have gone for an all-aluminum approach," he said. "At Cadillac, we believe that different materials each present particular advantages in specific applications. There is no single material that represents the optimum balance of the conflicting objectives of every single application." Related video:
