1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible

This 1955 Eldorado has just been purchased by me. It has had the same owner for the last 18 years. This car is what I would call a very solid, pristine driver. It was purchased new in Arlington, Virginia. It spent some time in Colorado , North Carolina, Ohio and Florida, and has always been garage-kept. I've driven this car a little bit, and while the auction is going, I am making several improvements that are cosmetic. I have extensive history and paperwork on the car, and have added a correct 1955 Eldorado only hard boot. I am color matching the boot  to the car. When I purchased this car, the last owner had a Hartz cloth snap-on boot cover, so the pinch well trim does have snaps on it, but if you have the boot on it you won't see them. Just would like to clarify that what you're buying is a real, real nice pristine driver. It's not a car that's going to win a Hershey 1st place award, but it could if you wanted to do some minor upgrades down the road. For now, it makes a pristine driver to drive and enjoy . I can personally deliver this to your door, and help with any type of international shipping to the port, and possibly store the car for you until Hershey Car Show 2014 is over. If not sold it will be for sale at Hershey 2014 Fall Meet in the Car Corral.
Here are some upgrades that I am doing while the auction is going:
  • Painting hard boot to match
  • All new lenses for the brake light, reverse light, fog lights, and fin reflectors.
  • Gold plating script and V on trunk and hood
  • Upgrading the trim on the doors and the front fender, polishing the rear wheel opening trims
  • Replacing and chroming belt line side fender trim (right and left)
  • Replacing and professionally polishing right and left door trim stainless for the belt line
  • Bleaching the convertible top to get it bright white
  • Touching up minor paint chips
  • Slightly detailing the under carriage
  • Painting the air cleaner correct gold, as well as the valve covers, I have the PODS
  • Adding correct air cleaner hardware/bolts
  • Buying a new reproduction driver's side mirror
  • Buying a new rear view mirror
Here's some key points on the car:
  • Excellent chrome
  • Convertible top is in working order
  • No rips or tears in the top
  • Nice back window for a convertible top
  • Tires have about 1000 miles on them
  • Excellent undercarriage, but not detailed
  • Bottom of front seat was replaced in leather and matches pretty well
  • Correct air cleaner for dual quad carburetor
  • Nice glass
  • Has Daytona weave carpets
  • Original radio included (note that right now there is an unoriginal AM/FM radio in it)
  • Has glass packed mufflers and they sound great
  • Recent brake work  and wheels cylinders
  • You can drive it anywhere
  • Carbs were rebuilt by Daytona
  • Paperwork as far as  the 80's from the second owner, TONS OF IT !!
  • Originally am Arlington Green code #34  with Biege leather code #95
  • Build sheet goes with the car
  • Recent repair of new distributor, new master cylinder
  • Paperwork shows first owner had the car up until 1967
If this car does not sell, it will be at the Hershey Car Corral for sale in October 2014.
I do have a Cadillac scrap yard with parts ranging from the 50s to 60s. If you have any requests please contact me.

What will the next Presidential limo look like?

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

With recent news that the Secret Service has begun soliciting proposals for a new armored limousine, we've been wondering what the next presidential limo might look like. The current machine, nicknamed "The Beast", has a design based on a car that's no longer sold: the Cadillac DTS. If General Motors gets the job again, which wouldn't be a surprise considering the government still owns a chunk of the company, the next limo's shape would likely resemble the new XTS (below, left). But Cadillac hasn't always been the go-to car company for presidential whips.
Lincoln has actually provided far more presidential limousines throughout history than Cadillac. In fact, the first car modified for Commander-in-Chief-carrying duty was a 1939 Lincoln K-Series called "Sunshine Special" used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the last Lincoln used by a president was a 1989 Town Car ordered for George H.W. Bush. If President Obama wanted a Lincoln today, it would likely be an amalgam of the MKS sedan and MKT crossover, as illustrated above.
And what about Chrysler? The only record we could find of a President favoring the Pentastar is Nixon, who reportedly ordered two limos from the company during his administration in the '70s, and then another one, known today as the "K-Car limo," in the '80s after he left office. Obama, however, has a personal - if modest - connection to Chryslers, having owned a 300 himself before he took office. A 300-based Beast (above, right) would certainly earn the U.S. some style points.

Seinfeld and Don Rickles stretch out in classic Caddy for latest CiCGC

Thu, 04 Jul 2013

It's no surprise that for the newest episode of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, airing for the first time on the 4th of July, that a couple of American classics are involved. You'll Never Play the Copa unites Seinfeld with legendary curmudgeon Don Rickles, driving around in a stunner of a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Seville in Gleneagles Green (upholstery wrapped in Grandma-spec plastic, of course).
Mr. Rickles really steals the show in this one - maybe our favorite CiCGC to date - though the Eldorado plays a strong-jawed costarring role, for sure. Stories about Ronald Regan, Frank Sinatra, Billy Graham and, of course, Herkie Styles are more than worth the price of admission. Check it out below.

2019 Autoblog Technology of the Year finalists revealed

Fri, Jan 4 2019

Every fall, we line up a range of new models with the latest and most compelling automotive technology from the past year. We test everything from semi-autonomous systems like Tesla's Autopilot to trick suspension setups like the Multimatic spool-valve shocks on the Chevy Colorado ZR2. We spend months paring down the list to a small group of contenders. After testing, dinner and healthy debate, we tally up the votes and name our winner. For Autoblog's 2019 Technology of the Year Award, our three finalists are the Cadillac CT6 with Super Cruise, the Infiniti QX50 with Variable Compression Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG E 53 with EQ Boost. Super Cruise is an advanced SAE Level 2 semi-autonomous system, though Cadillac (unlike some of its rivals) is reluctant to push that point. Cadillac would like you to think of this as an advanced driver assistance feature rather than a semi-autonomous system. Super Cruise allows completely hands-free highway driving. Thanks to a driver-facing camera, the system forces the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road even if hands are off the wheel. Although the CT6 is being discontinued, look for Super Cruise to make its way to other Cadillacs soon. VC Turbo is a little more complicated. Basically, Infiniti's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four can vary the compression ratio on the fly. In general, turbocharged engines are more efficient than naturally-aspirated engines when on boost, but can perform worse at low revs. VC Turbo allows for a best-of-both-worlds situation, increasing the compression at low revs and backing it off once the turbo spools up. The best part is that it does so seamlessly, with only a dash readout letting you know what's going on under the hood. Our third finalist is the EQ Boost 48-volt system in the Mercedes-AMG E 53. Like VC Turbo, EQ Boost does a lot just beneath the surface. Mercedes has developed a new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and paired it with a small electric motor. While the car can't run on electricity alone, the motor helps improve both efficiency and performance, smoothing shifts and filling in low-end torque before the turbos spool up. Think torque fill, similar to a McLaren P1. Who can complain about better fuel economy and more torque? Look for the 48-volt system to make its way into most of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The winner will be revealed next week on Autoblog, and we'll present the award Jan. 15 at the Detroit Auto Show. Related Video:
