I am an inveterate car guy and have been for at least 50 of my 66 years. I am NOT a dealer, nor am I involved in the car business- I am just an old nostalgic nerd who LOVES old cars (especially the ones my father had or I had when I was a kid). Now, I've discovered as I've gotten older that I have the one quality I never had as a kid: PATIENCE, So, that means that now I can take apart, clean and rebuild a carburetor, do the brakes, correctly fix other stuff - none of which I had the patience to do as a kid-so I'm making up for it now. BUT, I get bored easily so from time to time I buy a car and sell the one I have.

My usual "MO" is to carefully look to find the nicest car I can find and address whatever mechanical issues it requires; usually meaning maintenance issues like re-building a carburetor, or putting brakes on, or something that has to do with non-critical mechanical stuff (fixing a power seat, for example). I cannot and do not restore them, I rejuvenate them-BIG DIFFERENCE because they have to be REAL GOOD to start. Then, I drive them and enjoy them for a while UNTIL the next beauty I see "winks" at me and I take her home to play with.

That's how I came to buy this Caddy about 2 years ago, here's why:

Every once in a while a car from the 60's comes along that is in truly remarkable original condition and it looks and drives like it was just a 3 year old car. This is such a car (I know because I drove them back then when they WERE 3 years old).

This car came from the heirs of the ORIGINAL owner and was garaged and properly cared for from day one. There is no rust whatsoever on the car's body and there never was. This has always been a west coast car.

EVERY OPTION AND FEATURE ON THE CAR WORKS PROPERLY- NO EXCEPTIONS. EVERYTHING I LISTED WORKS CORRECTLY INCLUDING THE AC which is STILL on R-12 and BLOWS STRONGLY AND COLD.

The body is beautiful and looks to me to be nearly totally factory original paint with only the door on the driver's side showing evidence of prior repair (family told me it was damaged early on at a church parking lot and fixed many, many years ago). There ARE a few minor dings here and there but you have to WANT to find them to see them. The car looks new from 5 feet away.

The Interior is near perfect and is still the factory original leather; there are no rips or cracks. No rips or even signs of wear in the headliner or door panels, either. Original carpeting is still beautiful.

The original Chrome is very nice with only a super small rust spot on the driver's side front bumper bucket. It is not readily visible unless you look for it, but it is there so I am mentioning it.

Every light works properly-including the cornering lights.

The car runs perfectly and silently after it is warmed up.

The Engine blows NO SMOKE. There is NEVER any smoke from the exhaust-at any speed or at any time. NEVER !

5 NEW Tires, ALL new Brake Shoes, Hoses, Hardware and Master Cylinder.
Car runs COOL (normal) all the time.

If you are a collector looking for a REALLY well preserved example (NOT PERFECT, BUT SUPERB NEVERTHELESS) this would be a good choice.

If you are a novice looking for your first collector car and want one that you just put the key in and don't have to do anything to, this is an EVEN BETTER CHOICE.

I have purchased another car and I need the room, because there's only so long my wife will let me keep her A-8 in the driveway.

Come see it and come drive it.

Combine a self-driving car with V2V, and here's what happens

Sat, Dec 12 2015

Transportation engineers have started laying the groundwork for a traffic world in which cars communicate with other cars and infrastructure like bridges and traffic lights. How about an environment in which cars talk to pretty much everything and everyone? In a preview of its offerings at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Delphi Automotive will deploy just such a concept. Engineers have designed a system that communicates with traffic signals, street signs, pedestrians, cyclists, even to fry pits and parking garages along a driver's route. To date, engineers and researchers across the auto industry have focused on the technical and safety-oriented foundation of future vehicle-to-vehicle communications, which could help cars share information about everything from traffic tie-ups to upcoming road hazards. Beyond those building blocks, many have projected that V2V could also include more consumer-focused features. Delphi's system, dubbed V2Everything, might be the first that combines those sorts of features in a tangible package. At CES in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin the first week of January, company officials say they'll demonstrate in real-world conditions how V2V technology can be used in an autonomous vehicle to provide a range of critical safety information and leisure and convenience options for riders. The first V2V technology installed on a production car is slated to appear on the 2017 Cadillac CTS. "We imagine a world with zero traffic accidents," said Jeff Owens, Delphi's chief technology officer. "To get there, we will need a convergence of active safety, sensor fusion, connectivity platforms and advanced software." Such software might allow a vehicle to start searching for and reserving parking spots at a programmed destination long before arriving. It could allow riders to place their McDonald's drive-through order from the road and have the food ready for pickup along the route. For the drive itself, the Delphi-equipped car can stay updated on the status of traffic lights around Las Vegas, and can anticipate yellow and red lights. Using smart-phone technology, the car can detect pedestrians and cyclists that may otherwise be hard to see. It can send messages to friends or family to notify them of a driver's location. Some of those features have been available on third-party apps or individually developed by automakers. But this system marries them together in a single system that is tailored for use in self-driving cars.

Cadillac ELR next EV to get Plugless Power wireless charging tech

Mon, Jul 28 2014

Evatran has been testing its Plugless Power wireless charging systems for electric vehicles in the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf for years now and made the tech commercially available early this year. With the growth of the EV market, Evatran is getting ready to expand as well. The company announced today that it will add three premium EVs to the Plugless Power system by the end of the year, with the first (and so far only) named model being the Cadillac ELR. We expect it was not difficult for Evatran to adapt the Plugless Power system to the ELR, since the vehicle's powertrain is so similar to the one in the Volt. The main problem we see is that Cadillac has only sold 390 ELRs (as of the end of June), so this first Plugless Power expansion isn't exactly going to ignite sales, even if every ELR owner opts for the cool tech. If one of the next two announcement is for the Tesla Model S, though, then you're talking numbers. Speaking of the future, what models do you think will be next? The Plugless Power L2 wireless systems were recently declared safe by the Intertek and start at $2,470, not including installation or government incentives. All the online/smartphone connectivity features that work with the car when it's got a cord stuck in it work with the L2 system, Evatran says. Orders start today, and the ELR package will be available September 1. There's more, including a local news report on the technology, below. WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va Wireless Vehicle Charging available to Cadillac ELR owners starting September 1st The Cadillac ELR Joins the Growing List of Compatible Electric Vehicle ("EV") Models from Evatran, the World Leader in High-Power Wireless Charging RICHMOND, VA July 28, 2014 – In an exciting statement today, Evatran Group, Inc. ("Evatran"), announced that its PLUGLESS wireless charging technology would soon be available on the Cadillac ELR. Evatran, the first Company in the world to make wireless charging available to individual EV drivers, currently has systems that are compatible with the Nissan LEAF and Chevrolet Volt. The Cadillac ELR is the first model to be announced in what is intended to be three new premium model announcements by the end of 2014. Evatran will begin accepting advanced orders today for deliveries as soon as September 1st. "The launch of the Cadillac ELR system is an important milestone for us," commented Rebecca Hough, Evatran CEO and Co-Founder.

Cadillac dealers get $5,000 incentive for ELR test drives

Tue, 13 May 2014

The 530 Cadillac dealers - out of 940 total dealers - that signed on to sell the brand's ELR for $75,000 or lease it for $699 per month have managed to move 247 of them in the last five months. That's a little less than two cars for each dealer more than two dealers for each car if you need help with the math. With inventories of the luxury plug-in hybrid building up - Automotive News reports a 725-day supply - General Motors has created the Demonstrator Allowance Program to billow the sails on that slow moving ship, giving dealers $5,000 to promote ELR test drives.
A dealer with one ELR in its test fleet that racks up 750 test driven miles between May 1 and June 2 earns the fifty Benjamins, a dealer with two ELRs in the test fleet will get one hundred Benjamins. That will be added to summer incentives for dealers that pay $2,000 for units sold in July and $1,000 for units sold in August, while on the customer side, Cadillac has put "customer discount certificates" worth $3,000 on the hood for buyers and lessees.
Cadillac suggests this is about raising awareness of the ELR, but the question is how much dealers will be able to do for a car that observers - and buyers, apparently - still consider highly overpriced.
