This '59 Cadillac is now on display at Toyota's museum in Japan
Tue, Dec 20 2016The Toyota Automobile Museum is different from a lot of other automaker collections in one very interesting way: It doesn't focus solely on Toyota's own automobiles. While the home team is certainly well represented, the love is spread to plenty of non-Toyota brands and vehicles that are significant to automotive history. And that permanent collection now includes the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible you see here. Yes, the '59 Caddy has the biggest tail fins ever, which makes it measurably significant. You still wouldn't expect to see it in a museum in Japan, though. After updates to the facility and its exhibits finish early next year, the 67-vehicle collection will also include such greats as a Renault 5 (known here as the Le Car), a '64 Ford Mustang, an Audi Quattro, a first-gen Honda Insight, and a Lotus Elite. Someone over there has good taste. You can visit the Toyota Automobile Museum the next time you're in Nagakute City, which is right outside Nagoya. We're booking our tickets now. Cadillac CT6 ushers in new naming convention
Wed, 24 Sep 2014Johan de Nysschen has been at his new post as president of Cadillac for not even three months , but he's already seen two of his most notable accomplishments from his two-year tenure as president of Infiniti matched by Cadillac. The brand has announced that it is relocating its headquarters, and is now officially changing its nomenclature.
The brand's new flagship model will abandon the familiar three-letter designation enjoyed by every other model in the range (aside from the Escalade), and adopt an alpha-numeric title. So, rather than the expected title of LTS, Cadillac's top-end car will be called the CT6.
Of course, this won't be limited to just one model. According to Cadillac's press release, "familiar lettering like 'CT' would be used for car models, with the number indicating the relative size and position of the cars in the hierarchy of Cadillac models." And yes, that means what you think it means - Cadillac will use the exact same naming formula, albeit with different letters, as Infiniti.
Ghostbusters director tweets first photos of new Ecto-1
Wed, Jul 8 2015Ghostbusters is heading back to theaters next year with a new look. Rather than bringing back the original's aging comedic actors, four actresses are taking over the starring roles, including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Although, one of the movie's major highlights is missing from that list – the Ecto-1. Originally based on a 1959 Cadillac ambulance, we're now getting the first glimpses of the decked-out, ghost-hunting wagon from the new version thanks to director Paul Feig on Twitter. Purists might like that the Ghostbusters are sticking with a Caddy, but the producers are going for a slightly newer, more macabre approach, as well. Rather than an ambulance conversion, the latest one starts as a hearse. Having the ladies driving a '50s Caddy might stretch the imagination too far even in a movie about fighting the undead. This approach seems like a perfect compromise between old and new.
