A old high school friend knew that my 2002 Buick had blown an engine on the way back to Atlanta from Wisconsin and told me about a great that he found and was available in Tavares, Florida.  This was in the summer of 2011.  I explained that I decided to find an used engine and have it repaired in Seymour, Indiana where the car was being kept by the garage who rescued me off of I-65.  The car had been kept in their secured yard guarded by a turkey.  A turkey?  A TURKEY!!!!
The owners of the garage told me there is nothing more loud and alarming or protective and mean.

"Norm, I'm glad that you got it fixed but I saw a beautiful 1992 White Cadillac Sedan de Ville down here.  It would be perfect for you as a second car or one to let appreciate in value..  It's a one-owner, Florida car in "Cream Puff" condition.  It runs like a Singer sewing machine.  Get down here"   My goodness you have to at least take a look at it!"  The first chance I got I went to Florida to see the car he was so taken with.

When I saw it, I had to admit it was everything and more than I expected.  I cringed a little as it's luxurious presence was out of my range and embarrassing for me.  It was a gorgious 1992 white Cadillac Sedan de Ville with an fabulous full gold trim package.  My friend had been a comedian all his life and he proceeded to work me over with "Did you ever think you could have your own 'pimp-mobile'?"  Then when we looked into the cavernous trunk the humorous stereotypes continued with, "Looks like you can get four or five bodies in there."   Come on now, that's enough!

It was absolutely a beautiful car beyond anything I had been that close to.  I've heard of loaded but never saw one like this.
So many unusual features came with a 1992 Sedan de Ville as standard, but there were so many other options visually present.  The GOLD TRIM PACKAGE you could only shake your head in awe.  The massive Gold Grille was stunning and set the tone for the entire visual.   I knew that those gold wheels are the ones that go for $400-$500 on Ebay and a set as the center hubs go for $100+.  I took off the center hub today as I was writing this and saw that the gold has to be on the entire wheel and not just a wheel cover.  I saw the wheel itself being held on by the drum with studs and nuts.  The heavy metal wheel was anodized or whatever in gold just like the outside of the wheel.   The center hub caps will probably be replaced by the next owner.  Three of the four do not have clarity to see the cadillac emblem.     And that amazing and 'very extra', gold  luggage rack on the trunk was astonishing.  The blue Landau roof with running opera lights did not have a flaw and completes the outside image of the car.  The accents of gold wreaths on the hood ornament, door locks, below the opera lights and trunk key 'waz them pieces of resistances' what make that class.

After three more slow walks around the car we opened the doors and looked and then sat inside.   The white leather seats were dominant and consumed our attention as they were in remarkable condition.  It must have only been driven by one person.   The lack of wear indicated that.   There was a worn spot on the arm rest on the driver's side that was covered by a flap of the same leather sewed into the arm rest to cover the small crack or tear.   As I checked out the visors, I noticed there was a toothpick in the on/off switch for the map light.  I later found out that it was there to keep it turned off.  The right switch worked fine.  I asked permission to turn on the ignition so I could check the power windows, locks and the electronic instrument panel that gives all the information on systems.  All lit and appeared in order.  Windows and locks all worked.  I noticed that with all the 'cutting edge' 1992 electronics, the odometer on the speedometer was the standard decimal roll numbers that had been around for 90 years.  In the backseat there is a separate AC/Heat vent just for the backseat occupants In the corners... two beautiful opera lights.  Each of the four doors had red warning lights for oncoming cars and a light the illuminates inside.   My goodness!

Next we had to see the engine if only to see that gold grille again.  Hood up!... or Bonnet up if you are in England.  I'm not an expert but can recognize a clean engine.  This was clean beyond the 21 years of operation.   I noticed on the ID plate that the car may have had a second painting of the body.   On the front bumper shelf where the closed hood sits, there were a few spots of  paint missing as you can see on the photo.  This loss of paint extended some to the silver painted bumper.  I was told that the 4.9 L engine was a proven piece although I would have  liked for it to have been a Northstar which was on some models in 1992.  I understand the 4.9 is 300cc and 200HP.   The whole compartment seemed very clean as you can verify by the photos.  In my mind I knew that it would be best to replace all the belts and hoses.

It was time for the test drive.  The engine started just fine and off we went.  Transmission was smooth, exhaust system quiet, BUT we discovered that the clock was not working and neither would the beautiful Delco Bose Radio and sound system with speakers all over the inside.   I found out later why  and those negatives would have to be attended.   After fifteen or so minutes of driving on city streets and making stops and radical turns all sounded good and responded correctly.  When we got back I decided to buy this beautiful car whether I would use it regularly or watch it appreciate in value.  I had never really seen anything like it before.    I was shown the current auto Check that was run August 2011.  I can make that info available if a new Auto Check is not made automatically by offering this car.  The August 2011 Auto Check - I took possession of the car October 2011, showed the following:   1.  It was a one owner car.   2.  Mileage was accurate.   3. No accidents.   4. Title Clear.
5.  No problems in any of the events or checks.

We drove the car over to my friends then over to see some relatives in Sanford... then off to Atlanta.   The Cad drove like a dream and was a pleasure to ride in.   I noticed there was a slight tappet noise from overhead valves but that sounded normal
as I once had 1972, 1978 and 1982 General Motor cars.  The Cadillac made the trip easily and we were in Atlanta before we knew it.  I was amazed at the mileage per gallon but did not write it down and cannot remember.  It was something like 18 MPG.  This was October 2011.

I used the car for errands around the Chamblee/Dunwoody area of Atlanta using the temporary car license from Florida.  I was really surprised when I finally noticed that the  manmade mold for the headliner has disintegrated and had to have dropped since the previous owner had it pushed back up to the roof with flexible bend strips which are not really noticed - at least not by me.  I also found that for some reason the fuse in slot number 5 was not in position and loose in the glove box.  I put the fuse where it was supposed to be and immediately hear a noise in the trunk.  The Antenna motor for the radio is defective and will not extend but remains in the down position.  Likely this is why the radio does not turn on or clock run.   I did not follow through on this.

When the car tag (license) ran out I decided to just garage it and let it alone for awhile.  Then this past spring I decided to get the title completed properly,  an inspection sticker,  car tag, and insurance.  Completed the title and took it for inspection.  They found that the car had a blown head gasket.  A BLOWN HEAD GASKET?  This was revealed by checking the radiater.
In the old days one could see the water on the oil dip stick.  I asked if I could drive the car home?   They said that the sign of a real problem was then it started running hot.  The car does not have a gauge but a problem light and the temp light never went on during out trip from Florida to Atlanta or running around.  I then found out what it cost to replace two $5.00 gaskets and knew I had to sell the car to someone else who knew how to replace them himself or herself or could afford the $1,200-$1,500
it would take to repair.  As a retired minister on Social Security and a smalll pension providing, with my sister, care for my 107 year old mother without state or federal funds is a responsibility.  My sister provides her 24/7 needs and I provide her housing. My 54 year old learning disabled son also lives with me so first things much be first and the car needs to go to someone who will be able to bring it back to ultimate beauty and appreciate it more than I would.

I have taken the gasket repair into account when I've set the starting bid at $4,200.00.  From what I have researched and studied is that this 1992 Cadillac is rare.  I have seen one other.   Based on other offers I think it's worth $5,500.00 to $6,500.00.  If I get one bid for $4,200 I would consider it a victory.

I just posted my 1992 Cadillac and opened the Auto Check report ----- and was shocked that an accident was shown.  Apparently it had to be a rear bumper meeting since there is no damage I can see except for the two fender cracks mentioned above.  What is stunning to me is that the Auto Check report given to me where I purchased the car was issued 5/8/2011
and showed no accident.  Vin is correct.... so I dealt with two Taveras Crooks.  They also didn't mention the blown gasket.  I didn't have anything checked out because of my friend....   Sorry about the forbed Auto Check report from which I make some claims.

2014 Cadillac ELR whirs into Jay Leno's Garage

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

While Jerry Seinfeld was gallivanting around LA with Sarah Silverman in a Jaguar XKE, our favorite car-loving comedian, Jay Leno, was checking out the all-new 2014 Cadillac ELR. Set to go on sale later this year, Cadillac brought its ELR to Jay Leno's Garage to show off some of its styling and technology as well as give Leno some seat time in the range-extended EV. Leno owns both a Volt and a CTS-V, and the ELR is a kind combination of the two (sort of).
In this episode, Leno spends some time talking to Frank Saucedo, GM director of advanced design, and ELR chief engineer Chris Thomason before logging a few miles on the sleek coupe. Interestingly, it seems that GM has definitely changed its tune a little since the introduction of the Volt a couple years ago; Saucedo and Leno both refer to the ELR as a hybrid, and Thomason says that it gets the "bulk of its propulsion" from the electric motors. Whatever you want to call it, scroll down to watch the latest episode of JLG with some great information and driving shots of the plug-in Cadillac.

Cadillac tops Tesla in Consumer Reports semi-automated driving test

Thu, Oct 4 2018

General Motors' Cadillac outscored Tesla in a new ranking of partially automated driving systems tested by Consumer Reports and released on Thursday. The highly influential nonprofit organization, which tests and rates a variety of consumer products from appliances to vehicles, said it compared Cadillac's Super Cruise and Tesla's Autopilot with similar systems from Nissan and Volvo. Nissan's ProPilot Assist was ranked third and Volvo's Pilot Assist fourth. Consumer Reports said it has been testing partially automated driving systems for several years but elected to conduct a formal study intended for publication, because "we are at a tipping point where they are now going mainstream," according to Jake Fisher, director of auto testing. The organization said its tests, conducted on a private track and on public roads in Connecticut, were designed to measure the systems' ability to automatically control steering and speed in certain situations, while helping drivers pay attention and regain manual control of the vehicle when required. CR noted that any of these systems can increase driving risk if used in inappropriate situations, or if drivers become inattentive or over-reliant on them. While they can help relieve driver stress and fatigue, Consumer Reports said, the partially automated systems are "not intended to be self-driving features." The systems typically use cameras, radar and other sensors, as well as mapping data, to monitor location and traffic conditions and help keep a vehicle centered in the lane at a safe distance behind other cars. Each system has limitations. Cadillac's Super Cruise, for instance, only functions on divided highways that have been mapped by GM. In contrast, Tesla's Autopilot can be used even on small, curvy roads with poor lane markings, but "operates erratically in those situations," Consumer Reports said. The organization tested Super Cruise on the Cadillac CT6; Autopilot on the Tesla Model 3, Model X and Model S; ProPilot Assist on the Nissan Leaf and Infiniti QX50; and Pilot Assist on the Volvo XC40 and XC60. Consumer Reports said Cadillac's Super Cruise did "the best job of balancing high-tech capabilities with ensuring the car is operated safely and the driver is paying attention." Tesla's Autopilot was cited for its capability and ease of use, while Nissan's ProPilot Assist did a better job than Autopilot or Volvo's Pilot Assist in keeping drivers engaged.

GM puts e-commerce shopping in car dashboards

Tue, Dec 5 2017

DETROIT — General Motors on Tuesday said it will equip newer cars with in-dash e-commerce technology, betting it can profit as drivers order food, find fuel or reserve hotel rooms by tapping icons on the dashboard screen, instead of using smartphones while driving. GM's Marketplace technology, developed with IBM, will be uploaded automatically to about 1.9 million model-year 2017 and later vehicles starting immediately, with about 4 million vehicles across the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands equipped with the capability in the United States by the end of 2018, GM said. GM will get an undisclosed amount of revenue from merchants featured on its in-dash Marketplace, Santiago Chamorro, GM vice president for global connected customer experience, said during a briefing for reporters. Customers will not be charged for using the service or the data transmitted to and from the car while making transactions, he said. "This platform is financed by the merchants," Chamorro said. GM will get paid for placing a merchant's application on its screens, and "there's some level of revenue sharing" based on each transaction, he said. It is too soon to say how much revenue GM could realize from the Marketplace system, he said. The GM Marketplace will compete for customer clicks and revenue with hand-held smartphones, which offer a far richer array of applications than the GM system will at the outset. Amazon.com is partnering with other automakers, including Ford, to offer in-car e-commerce capability through Amazon's Alexa personal assistant system. For example, GM will launch Marketplace with just Shell and Exxon Mobil icons in the fuel category. The only restaurant available for in-car table reservations at launch is the chain TGI Fridays, GM said. In addition, there will be apps for parking, and ordering ahead at coffee shops and restaurants such as Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and Applebee's. "We will be adding more vendors," with some coming in the first quarter of 2018, Chamorro said. In addition, he said GM plans to expand integration into its vehicles of music, news and other information services. GM also hopes to use its in-car Marketplace connections to expand purchases of products and services, such as additional access to in-car wifi, from its own replacement parts business and dealer network. Customers can "expect to see more service promotions coming through the platform," Chamorro said. Reporting by Joe WhiteRelated Video:
