Cadillac cancels sponsorship of Trump's PGA event
Thu, Jun 2 2016Cadillac has ended its sponsorship of the PGA's World Golf Championship, which has incited a response from Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Without the automaker's money to run the event at a property owned by Trump in Miami, the PGA announced it will move the WGC to Mexico City. Trump responded by saying, "Cadillac's been a great sponsor, but they're moving it to Mexico. They're moving it to Mexico City which, by the way, I hope they have kidnapping insurance. They're moving it to Mexico City. And I'm saying, you know, what's going on here? It is so sad when you look at what's going on with our country." In 2010, the PGA announced a multi-year deal with Cadillac to sponsor the WGC, starting in 2011. Since 2007, the event has been held at what is now known as the Trump National Doral Miami location. Trump took ownership of the property in 2012. Cadillac issued a statement to Autoblog that says: "We are proud to have been the title sponsor of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship since 2011. We have made the decision, however, not to extend our sponsorship beyond this year. We thank the PGA TOUR for a great six years with the Cadillac Championship." 2017 Cadillac XT5 will debut in Dubai
Tue, Sep 8 2015Cadillac confirmed the 2017 XT5 crossover – the replacement for the SRX – will officially debut at the Dubai Motor Show in November. The XT5 will then make its first North American appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show later that month. The current SRX is a hugely important vehicle for Cadillac – it's still the company's best-selling product worldwide. But it's pretty old now, having launched in 2009 as a 2010 model. The XT5 will bolster all of the good things about the SRX while finally bringing that product up to date. Above, you can see a spy shot of what looks to be the new XT5, caught during a photo shoot. "The XT5 will be the cornerstone of a series of crossovers bearing the 'XT' designation," Cadillac said in a statement. We've long known that Cadillac wants to add a CUV between the XT5 and its flagship Escalade. But we think there's also room for something smaller – a proper fighter to the expanding entry-level luxury crossover segment that includes the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, upcoming Infiniti QX30, and more. GM extending warranties on Cadillac CTS-V and Chevy Camaro ZL1 for supercharger issue
Wed, 04 Jun 2014Okay General Motors, we've sat by and watched you recall the compact cars, crossovers and pickup trucks, and aside from reporting on it, we've been fairly quiet. This, though, this will not do. We can almost tolerate the recalls on the bread-and-butter cars, but leave the performance vehicles alone.
According to a report from The Car Connection, GM has discovered a problem with the superchargers of the 6.2-liter V8s found in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Cadillac CTS-V. Apparently, the issue rests around the internal bearing shaft grease, which can become contaminated (we aren't sure with what). If left unchecked, it'll first lead to a rattle at idle, which goes away under slight throttle. The real warning stage is when a high-pitched squeal develops, signaling that the bearing shaft has failed. Naturally, severe engine damage is the next step (although it's possible that the engine will also just refuse to turnover, although neither case is desirable).
According to TCC, GM will replace the superchargers on vehicles that have exhibited symptoms of bearing shaft failure free of charge. It will also, allegedly, be extending the warranty on all supercharged ZL1s and CTS-Vs to 10 years or 120,000 miles (whichever comes first), from the date of purchase. Officially, only 2009 to 2013 CTS-Vs and 2012 to 2013 ZL1s are suffering from this issue.
