1990 Cadillac Allante Convertible up for auction with NO RESERVE

4.5 V8, 108k original miles. With the overdrive transmission the Caddy will get over 20 mpg on the highway. This Allante is a late 1990 model, it has some improvements over the early 1990 models including convertible top release motors on top of the windshield and increased horsepower.

Mechanically:  The digital dash works properly but one side is a little dim at night. The engine has had a recent replacement of three fuel injectors but probably needs another injector or two changed (running fine, but doesn't have the power it should). The power seats and stereo don't work. I've never even checked the fuses. I bought it last Fall, had the injectors changed, drove it 2-3 times, then she sat all winter. It ran great when I parked it last November, lots of power. The a/c doesn't blow cold (the dash display shows "Low Refrigerant"), the compressor does have a belt on it, the tires are old and should be replaced. The windows work properly, all the top mechanisms work properly including the power latches above the windshield. The power pulldown motor for the back window works, but got misaligned the last time I lowered and raised the top. The motor does not grab the "hook" so there's a small gap below the rear window when the top is up. It looks like a fairly easy adjustment, I just don't have the time. The engine turns over easily, the fuel injection allowing a simple turn of the key to start the car.

Cosmetically the Allante shows very well, the original paint still in great condition, nice metallic pearl finish. The bumpers and grill are in good shape, no dents or scratches. The dash has some sun warping (no cracks), it has a suede Dashmat cover that matches the interior. The console, carpet, door panels and rear panels are nice, no cracks or damage, the bottom center sections of the seats have been recovered with new leather, (the previous owner did it, looks OK in the pix but you may want to have it redone). Small crack in the bottom left of the windshield, about four inches, it's always passed inspection (the NY sticker covers the crack). Includes original owner's manual and huge shop manual for 1990 model year.

Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Engine starts easily, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out.  Drives overall like a Cadillac Roadster should, the suspension is sporty.  The underside is solid as the Allante has always been a Garage Queen. I love the car; I was going to get it perfect but finances are what they are and I need to sell. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well.

Modern classic Caddy convertible that will only appreciate in value. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230

Cadillac ATS-V shares track time and new face with CTS-V sibling

Tue, 24 Jun 2014

It's been about eight months since we last heard anything on the eagerly anticipated Cadillac ATS-V, meaning it was high time a new batch of photos arrived of the twin-turbocharged, V6-powered sedan.
This latest round includes a shot of the hot ATS-V alongside the upcoming CTS-V, allowing us to glimpse through the camouflage and spot the family resemblance between the two über sedans. According to our spies, this is the first time we've gotten a look at the ATS-V's fascia without a nose bra to obscure larger details. This isn't the first time we've seen a vertically slated grille on an in-development Cadillac V car, although it is the first time we've seen it on the ATS-V. Aside from the main grille, the shapes of the sportier front fascia of the ATS-V tie in nicely with its big brother. We are rather curious about the hood on the ATS-V. It's difficult to tell from these images, but it looks like there may be some vents up there that may be meant to improve cooling to the alleged 425-horsepower engine.
Other details that we can see include swollen fenders and larger wheels that hide amplified brakes. The rear of the car remains heavily obscured by camo, with the sole details of note being the quad exhausts, which we've spotted on previous ATS-V prototypes.

2016 Cadillac CT6 to get an aluminum body?

Sat, Dec 27 2014

Well this is interesting: A hot-off-the-press report in Automobile claims the coming Cadillac CT6 will have an aluminum body. Most write-ups on the CT6 claim it will have a body that's a combination of aluminum and high-strength steel - Automobile itself wrote of "high-strength steel, aluminum, and steel stampings" in October. An all-aluminum body would be quite the reversal, contradicting the last four months of reportage and company statements on the matter. Mark Reuss, EVP of global development at General Motors, told The Detroit News in October, "We will create with the CT6, the world's most advanced body structure... [and] it's not aluminum. It's a stronger, smarter, safer premium luxury vehicle." It echoed the earlier Automobile story in saying the CT6 would use GM's "patented welding technology with high-strength steel, aluminum and steel stampings and castings." That same month, the Wall Street Journal ran a piece titled, "GM Won't Follow Aluminum Strategy in Future Cars," in which Reuss said, "making big statements around all carbon fiber, all aluminum, all magnesium, they're very interesting," and that GM wouldn't be doing it. That piece also circled back to a material mix and GM's special welding process, saying the CT6 "will have a body made of aluminum, high-strength steel and other materials, and will be 100 kilograms (220 pounds) lighter than a similar-sized car made of high-strength steel." We don't know what kind of body Cadillac's new assault on luxury is going to wear, but now we can't wait to find out. Cadillac's de Nysschen won't budge on raised pricing

Thu, 18 Sep 2014

According to new Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen, it will take between 10 and 15 years to elevate GM's top brand, which was once hailed as "The Standard Of The World," back to prominence in the minds of American customers. And to hear the executive talk of it, the brand is going to have to be willing to see sales falter in the near-term before they recover:
"Either you have to bring your volume aspirations into alignment with reality and accept that you will sell fewer cars... Or you have to drop the price and continue to transact at the prices where you were historically... I think the logical conclusion is that it's better to build off a very solid base in terms of [product] credibility, charge a fair price for the car and realize you have to wait until the volume comes."
In other words, sales will fall before they rise, and the brand has to be okay with that. Notice, too, that de Nysschen speaks of "a fair price" for Cadillac cars and utility vehicles. In this case, "fair" means more than many of the brand's traditional buyers are accustomed to, and roughly in line with the brands and machines Cadillac believes it is competing against. For instance, the newly enlarged 2014 CTS carries a suggested retail price that is over $6,000 higher than it was in 2013, and some trim levels boast an even higher price premium over the models they replace.
