1993 Cadillac Allante Indy 500 Pace/parade Car Driven By Al Unser Jr on 2040-cars
Houston, Texas, United States
“LIL AL” at Indy, an Allante’ Story
This 1993 Cadillac Allante’ rolled off the 9,000 mile production line in March of 1992, that production line started in Detroit, Michigan with parts being sent to the world famous design firm of Pinninfarina of Turin, Italy, there to be mated with the Italian designed frame and body only Pinninfarina could do, then loaded on specially designed Boeing 747s, 56 at a time, the Allante’s without an engine or drive train, back to the U.S.A. to have Cadillac add the first production 295 HP Northstar 4.6 V8 and drive train to complete the assembly, (The Allante name could be a take on the Italian word Aliante which in English means Glider as it flew to the U.S.A. without an engine). This Allante is one of just eight Allante’s that had been built with matching options by Cadillac a decal 8 is on front and rear window. The 1993 Allante was chosen to be the Pace car for the 76th Indy 500 race in 1992 with Bobby Unser as spoke’s person for Cadillac and the Pace car driver. Only three 1993 Allante’s were modified (Seat belts, Lighted roll bar, and air intake only) to be Pace cars as the 1993 Allante’s stock Northstar V8 could do 0 to 60 MPH in six seconds. In May 1992 this Allante was sent in a group of thirty 1993 Allante’s to the 76th Indianapolis 500 to be used as a Pace/Festival car for the event. This Allante was the one of the 30 stock 1993 Allante’s (Fifty eight, 1992 Allante’s were also sent) that was stenciled Indy Pace Car, as well as with Al Unser Jr’s name stenciled on the passenger door (It was not needed on the driver door as only the passenger door faced the grand stands) This 1993 Allante was given to Al Unser Jr (LIL AL) to drive at the opening parade and closing ceremonies for the race. Al Unser Jr won that historic race by just .048 seconds between his car and second place winner Scott Goodyear, Al Unser Sr came in third, it was almost an all Unser race with Bobby Unser as Pace car driver, his nephew Al Unser Jr (LIL AL) winning the race and Al Jr’s father, Al Unser Sr (Big Al) coming in third. Two weeks after the 76th Indy 500 this Allante was used by Al Unser Jr again to open the brand new Belle Isle Raceway for the Detroit Grand Prix XI parade. So this Allante was not only on the brickyard track at Indy but also driven around the new Belle Isle track in Detroit which makes it kind of a special 1993 Allante since Cadillac stop producing all Allante’s in July of 1993. This Allante is personally signed on the dash above the glove box by both Al Unser Jr & Bobby Unser and comes with many display items currently has Personalized Texas 10 year plates "LiL Al" it is my hope a buyer from Texas wins this Allante. It says I am the forth owner but I am the third owner as it had to be registered in Florida before I could register this 1993 Allante in Texas there are gaps in ownership when it was museum displayed. I ask for a $1000.00 PayPal down payment and the balance due before pick up, Cash, Money Order, Certified check, Personal Check (must clear bank before pick up) for balance owed, no over balance amount accepted or returned if sent, buyer pays all shipping costs. Cadillac previews upcoming new XT5 crossover [UPDATE]
Thu, Sep 10 2015UPDATE: Cadillac has released another three images, which we've added to the gallery above. Cadillac is gearing up to unveil its new XT5 crossover at the Dubai Motor Show in November. We've already seen what it'll look like - from a couple of angles, anyway - but the all-American luxury automaker has given us another taste of what's to come with a quartet of images released on its official Facebook page. Set to replace the SRX that's now six years old, the all-new XT5 adopts the new design language we've seen on newer Cadillacs of late. That's most particularly emphasized with those vertically integrated LED headlights. The sharply creased styling is also signature Cadillac, as is the egg-crate grille capped by the brand's wreath-less new emblem. The dark brown paint job also looks like it has a deep metallic flake to it, offset by satin brightwork where you might have once expected to see glinting chrome. (Then again, it could just be reflecting a uniform backdrop.) The XT5 is expected to be the first of several new Caddy crossovers to wear the letters XT. A smaller model (likely to be dubbed XT3) is tipped to slot in below, with a larger XT7 to slot in above – but still below the defiantly truck-based Escalade that's not about to go anywhere anytime soon. Sedans will continue to start their nameplates with the letters CT. But after a dozen years, the letters SRX will be retired from the Cadillac lexicon. Related Video:
2014 Cadillac ELR wears a suave suit with Volt underpants
Tue, 15 Jan 2013The Cadillac design and engineering teams were smiling like a bunch of proud papas here in Detroit this morning, as the Wreath and Crest crew pulled the curtain back on their 2014 ELR. The house was packed for the ELR's coming out party, and reaction was enthusiastic amongst the murmuring media, as far as we could gather, while the flashes were firing.
In fact, we think that the sleek styling and aggressive proportions of the Voltec-powered ELR looked even better in the metal than they did in the first official images we saw earlier. Further, the leather-lined interior seems custom made for serious driving, even if the ELR is slightly less than rocket-ship quick.
The new Cadillac makes good use of the basic running gear from the Chevrolet Volt, including the 1.4-liter range-extending gas engine, a 15.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric drive motor that offers 295 pound-feet of torque, and a total system output of 207 horsepower. All-electric range is down by just one mile versus its Chevrolet forebearer, for a total of 35, and Cadillac speculates that the total range with the gasoline generator figured in will top 300 miles.
