1962 Buick Special Convertible

Motor Trend’s 1962 “CAR OF THE YEAR”     Fireball V6 – 3-Speed AT

Marlin Blue Metallic Paint & Custom Deep Blue & White Pleated Interior

This Buick Special convertible was a one family car for several generations. It started life in California before finding a home in WA now in NJ. This is one of those rare condition survivors… very solid and rust free vehicles, well taken care of with low miles and loved all of its life. It was purchased several years ago from the family estate. It has been professionally repainted the 1962 factory deep Buick Marlin Blue Metallic. The interior has also been redone with new quality woven carpets & the professionally reupholstered interior using much more expensive materials; new padding & extra soft &thick Buick 2-toned Blue & White vinyls.

This Buick Special runs and drives very nicely! It has lots of power, handles and drives easily and shifts cleanly through the gears. The engine has an older rebuild, with not many miles on it coupled with a fully redone GM Turbo 350 automatic; 3-speed transmission. This car has an amazing amount of power and snaps through the gears…. The newer 3-speed AT is quite an improvement over the factory 2-speed AT giving this car more power through all speeds, and smooth cruising on the freeway too. Factory option remote control drivers side mirror plus the loud & clear factory AM Radio. New Firestone ZR White Wall Tires.

This is an original condition survivor, excellent driver quality car. It is not perfect and not a number one condition show car, but it is a very solid and good running investment quality vehicle. Dash and most interior original with still shiny dash & chrome, some minor pitting but never really cleaned and overall good appearances. It has a replacement black convertible top in overall good shape, but has had several small holes patched and back window needs some stitching in the corner…. with original black boot cover. (my next phase I was planning a new white top, which only run about $225 for these cars)Most chrome is shiny, but there are some normal small dents & wear on the bumpers & front lower panels. The trunk is very solid, and includes the factory spare tire. Under the hood you can see again, very solid, factory shiny paint & original “FIREBALL V-6” air-cleaner. I have the original glass windshield cleaner bottle, which is not in photos but you can see the bracket under hood, and it is included in the sale. I have the full stack of ownership papers and receipts on the car. The odometer shows 27,676 miles.. but there was a period of ownership that odometer did not work. Owners guessed several thousand, summer & annual miles only for each of those years… so estimated actual mileage at maybe 45,000+/- for the car; to be honest the actual mileage is unknown. Just installed a brand new custom exhaust system this year.

Only the Buick Special has a really cool center horn button and no horn ring… horn works great, AM radio works, most all lights, dash lights and gauges including gas gauge & speedometer all working fine. New battery, recent tune up with plugs & wires, all good newer belts & hoses. Looks like car was factory undercoated, this was an original CA car that had been garaged and is very solid. This a fun and dependable summer driver that is easy to drive. This was car of the year with real independent suspension that handles and drives easily. It gets lots of attention and comments… ”nice car” … cool car” … and thumbs up wherever it goes. Deep & Shiny Marlin Blue Metallic Buick factory color paint…. A great investment that you can drive!

GM to make most cars LTE hotspots for 2015

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

General Motors isn't the first automaker to deliver in-car Internet access, but a proposed plan announced today could make the technology more widespread than any of its competitors have offered. By the 2015 model year, most Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC products in the US and Canada will offer 4G LTE mobile broadband access. Initially, GM will just be pairing with AT&T to deliver this service, but additional carriers will be revealed in the future.
Current in-car Wi-Fi hot spots are limited to 3G, but GM says that 4G LTE is 10 times faster than 3G service and will allow for full Internet access, including streaming video for entertainment as well as services like real-time traffic updates and navigation driving directions. There is also no need for a paired smartphone with this new system, which should make it easier to use, and GM and AT&T will also be working together to develop new apps for customers.
Buyers can expect to start seeing 4G LTE in their cars starting next year, and GM is already planning to expand the service to other global markets as well. All of the information from GM's announcement is posted in a press release below.

A Nice, New Buick Aims For Middle Of The Road
Any time someone describes some portion of a car or a driving experience as being "nice," I want to either A) throttle them or B) run as fast and as far as I can from that vehicle. "Nice" is among the most insidious words in the English language - at best it's vague, and at worst, it conveys the exact opposite of its literal meaning. Yet it seems to be used with damnable frequency when it comes to verbally illustrating vehicles. "It looks really nice," or "These seats feel nice," or, heaven forefend, "It's got a nice ride," are all windy signifiers of absolutely nothing resembling a concrete opinion. "Nice" is the adjectival equivalent of meekly smiling and nodding your head.
Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person of having thrown English's least powerful descriptor around. There's even a chance that, rant aside, you'll catch me making nice in reviews to come. That's fine, but you should know that when you stumble upon such usage, past or future, that you've found a sentence in which I'm simply applying a bare minimum of effort to the task.

Movie Review: Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary

Thu, 06 Dec 2012

As Buick currently claws and scratches its way back into relevance to compete against luxury brands like Lexus and Acura, it's hard to believe that not too long ago, the brand had a car that was mentioned in the same breath as Corvette, Lamborghini and Ferrari. That car? None other than the Buick Grand National. All black with a turbocharged V6 and some of the quickest acceleration of its time, the Grand National, in today's standards, is along the lines of a 2013 Shelby GT500 with both cars essentially being a working man's supercar.
The last Grand National rolled off the assembly line in Flint, MI on December 11, 1987, and to mark the silver anniversary of that somber occasion, Black Air is a documentary of the Grand National from the perspective of the enthusiast, the collector, the media and even from those at General Motors responsible for creating such a sinister legend. Like the car itself, Andrew Filippone Jr. shoots the documentary in a raw fashion, and it definitely helps to show why a low-volume muscle car from the 1980s is still the object of obsession for many automotive enthusiasts to this day.
