 Description:

1972 BUICK GS Stage ONE Convertible Replica

Car was converted from its original 1972 Buick Skylark Custom. Mostly all GS originality was carefully added including new GS spec springs and front DISC Brakes. Also upgraded heavy duty Hotchkis Sway Bars, front and rear. Installed 355 POSI rear end as well.

Car is an attention magnet everywhere. Constant horns beeping and thumbs up. When I first got it I was pulled over by the local Police twice because the cops wanted a close up look.

Top stays down from May-Nov as she never leaves the garage on days it may rain.

She runs strong but I never raced or beat it.

EXTERIOR

Fresh re-paint 3 years ago. Many chrome trim pieces replaced and rear bumper was re-chromed 3 years ago. Front bumper still looks good. I would rate it a 8--9 on a scale of 10 with 10 being trailer queen. Wheels are 17 inch American Racing, Chrome Torque Thrust.

INTERIOR

Bucket Seats and door panels are a pearl white with matching boot cover. All gauges work. I added under dash temp, volt, oil pressure gauge and replaced broken clock with a Tach. Custom leather stitched on wheel cover gives driver a nice feel. Has Retro Radio with plug in for I Pod. New carpets and GS Vinyl floor Mats.

All new moldings/gaskets done in 2012.

GLASS

All original and in good shape. Scratch on passenger side of windshield caused by wiper abrasion. Back window is glass.

UNDERSIDE

Very good condition with no rust. Has new FLOWMASTER CUSTOM Exhaust, with factory look turn down tips.

TRANSMISSION

3 speed auto with shift kit. Works perfectly with easy 2nd gear chirp on acceleration.

REAR

355 POSI

TIRES

Plenty of tread on RIKEN 17 inch Radials

ENGINE

455 Buick with functional hood scoops for Ram-Air. I replaced the old Carter Carb with a new Holley 750. Has electronic ignition and new wires. New Battery last year and new short ratio steering box. Factory AC was serviced in 2012 and works great. Also replaced heater core and added aluminum radiator.

Just recently replaced all Valve Seals and springs.

Engine is very strong and is an absolute Torque monster. This drive train used to beat HEMIS back in the day. Check on YouTube for videos of match ups.

CONCLUSION

As a newly restored Replica, this car is a beautiful summer driver! She cleans up like new and draws smiles and stares everywhere. Not a garage queen but has been treated as such by this owner.

GM program sees dealers taking on way more loaner cars

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. Bring your car into the dealership for service, and you may need a loaner car in exchange. And with so many recalls being carried out, that means a lot of loaners – especially at General Motors dealerships. That could be one of the reasons why GM is massively expanding its loaner fleet program. While many Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealerships have an on-site rental car location operated by a third party like Enterprise (which may or may not provide a GM vehicle), others manage their own loaner fleets. But while the range of dealerships operating such fleets was once small, reports Automotive News, the number has been growing rapidly: from the locations responsible for only 20 percent of those brands' sales two years ago to about 90 percent today. The impetus for that growth comes down to a massive expansion of GM's Courtesy Transportation Program. The initiative encourages dealers to ramp up their loaner fleet to a maximum size determined by GM, with a mix determined by the dealer itself, so that a showroom in Texas can be bolstered with a fleet of pickup trucks and a dealer in California can employ more Volt and Camaro Convertible loaners. The dealership gets a $500 credit for each vehicle its puts in its fleet, and can use those vehicles as loaners for service customers, as multi-day test drivers or to rent out separately. The vehicles remain in the dealer's fleet for 90 days or 7,500 miles, then they can be sold as used, but with new-car incentives. The dealer gets a fleet of loaners, customers get to use the loaners, try out a new car overnight or buy a barely used car with attractive incentives, and GM gets to clock more sales. But therein lies the kicker: the automaker counts the dispatch of the loaner new vehicle to the dealership as a new-car sale, which could end up distorting its sales figures. Counting loaner vehicles as sold vehicles is something of an industry-standard practice, but given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. One dealership - Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY, for example - had no loaner fleet two years ago, but now runs a fleet of 50 vehicles. Multiply that by the 4,000 or so dealers GM has across America and you're talking about the potential for hundreds of thousands of these sorts of sales.

Buick really wants us to know the new Cascada convertible won't leak

Thu, Apr 16 2015

Quality testing on the factory floor is nothing to joke about. Automakers need to make sure the work being done is up to snuff, and that means some extensive checks. For Buick, that means using a lot of water for each of its Cascada convertibles. Each vehicle that rolls off the floor is subject to a high-pressure, ten-minute soaking that sprays nearly 20 gallons of water from each nozzle during every bath, just to guarantee the fabric roof hasn't sprung any leaks. For some reason, Buick has chosen to show off this testing with the help of what we imagine is the Gorton's Fisherman's baby cousin. Check out the strange testing video, available up top.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
