Up for auction is a 1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 convertible tribute or clone.Buick only built 81 of the real Stage 1 convertibles in 1972 and this is a nice driver/project you can drive, enjoy as is and restore/upgrade as needed.I have owned this car for approx. 6 years.I will describe the car the best I can. Please read this description very carefully. It has a very strong running 1970 455 that has been rebuilt and upgraded approx. 10,000 miles ago by the previous owner w/.030 over forged pistons,Poston performance camshaft, headers,Pertronix electronic ignition conversion using the factory distributor. It has a 2.5" exhaust(up to the mufflers)  w/H pipe,Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and stock tailpipes. It sounds great.TH350 transmission w/shift kit (shifts firm and barks the tires on 1-2 shift as it should) and has a BOP 10 bolt 3.23 posi. Also has the HD rear suspension w/sway bar, boxed control arms and the factory braces.

It has power disc brakes, air conditioning (not hooked up,I have the compressor) power windows, power steering. The interior is in nice original shape.Driver side door panel does show wear.Dashboard is in excellent shape.Wheels are 15x7 all around and have 235/60 tires on the front,275/60 tires on the rear. They are in nice shape.

The body needs some work. The worst being the drivers side 1/4 panel which does have bubbling around the wheel opening and on the bottom of it.The doors have some  bubbles on them and the drivers side door has some very small holes in the corner. Please check out the pictures. The fenders are nice. The passenger 1/4 panel and fender were replaced with NOS ones when the car was painted approx 20 years ago.The radiator support is also NOS and is not rotted in the usual area were the battery is located.Frame is nice and solid with no repairs that I can see.Floors are pretty decent but it does have small holes on the passenger side front.Nothing scary in my opinion.Trunk floor appears solid as well.Top does go up and down, but has a leaky cylinder.I have a good used one that I havent got around to installing and it will be included w/the car.It does need a top. It has a nice black top boot too.The paint shines up well but is old and has its share of scratches, chips, dings, touch ups, etc.

here is a video of the car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8dwdZ5O870

I can be reached at 203-464-7302 if you have any questions.Car is sold as is,where is.No warranties expressed or implied.I have described the car to best of my ability and am not responsible for differences in opinion.Car must be picked up with 7 days of auctions end unless we have an agreement beforehand.Zip code is 06514.Transport is full responsibility of the buyer.

Buick Envision to go on sale in third quarter of 2015

Mon, 06 Oct 2014

Following an earlier concept and successive teasers, Buick revealed the new Envision crossover a little over a month ago. The thing is, it was launched in China, for China. The question, then, is whether it will make the jump to the North American market. And the answer is: quite possibly.
According to division sales chief Duncan Aldred in speaking to Edmunds, Buick is looking into the prospect of bringing the Envision to the US: "We can't confirm anything, but clearly it is a very nicely designed and executed product that is very much a Buick," said Aldred.
If and when the compact crossover would appear in US showrooms, it would slot in between the smaller Encore and the larger Enclave. It would likely be offered in front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and mild hybrid configurations. Sources expect it to arrive in the third quarter of 2015 as a competitor to the likes of the Mercedes GLA, Lexus NX and Lincoln MKC.

Junkyard Gem: 1973 Buick LeSabre Custom Hardtop Sedan

Sat, Oct 26 2019

The steps on Alfred Sloan's "Ladder of Success," in which you'd start your career by buying a Chevrolet and then move up through the GM marques as your wealth increased, stayed rigidly fixed from the 1930s into the late 1960s. By the early 1970s, though, "prestige creep" among The General's divisions had set in, with lower-zoot marques leapfrogging their betters with ballooning price tags and snob appeal; a fully-loaded Chevy Caprice could cost more than an Olds 98, a Pontiac Bonneville could out-snoot a Buick LeSabre, and the LeSabre itself came to threaten mighty Cadillac at the top of the GM pyramid. Here's a fully depreciated '73 LeSabre Custom Hardtop Sedan, once the picture of Malaise Era opulence but now brought down to earth in a San Jose self-service car graveyard. The high-rollingest of all LeSabres in 1973 was the Custom (though shoppers for full-sized 1973 Buicks really wishing to rub the noses of their lessers in their success could opt for the even pricier Centurion or Electra 225), and that's what I found among the Achievas and Cateras of this yard's GM section. Wasps now nest in the rust holes caused by rainwater seeping beneath the padded vinyl roof, but this car once told the world, "I've made it!" It went without saying that your big, comfy Detroit luxury sedan had a big, comfy front bench seat; let those frivolous rakehells in their Rivieras have their bucket seats. Believe it or not, a three-on-the-tree column-shift manual transmission was still standard equipment on the lower-level Buick Century in 1973, but all LeSabre buyers enjoyed two-pedal luxury that year. Some junkyard shopper grabbed the massive 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 — rated at 225 horsepower, due to Nixon's stricter emissions standards and the switch from gross to net horsepower ratings — before I got here. I'm guessing this car got driven into the ground by the early 2000s (there's a 2001 calendar inside) and then spent the next couple of decades bleaching in the harsh South Bay sun before arriving here. So good, shoppers bought them sight unseen!

Buick Encore production increased to lift supply by 50%

Wed, Feb 4 2015

Trying to zero in on the Buick Encore leads us to the conclusion that the only place it really fits is in buyers' driveways. Every member of its so-called competitive set – we've read everything from the Ford C-Max to the Nissan Juke to the Volkswagen Tiguan to the BMW X1 – is so different in small yet fundamental ways that the Encore neatly slinks between them all, and with 48,892 sales in 2014, it doesn't stop slinking until it reaches consumer garages. That success, and preparation for the aggrandizing of the compact CUV segment, is why General Motors is upping production for the US market by 50 percent. Analysts keep predicting there will be more shoppers for tiny crossovers, and that's why those that don't have them are getting them. Yet the Encore came out in 2013 before people realized the power of the segment, and it has substantially out-performed GM and observer expectations: analysts predicted 18,500 US sales in 2013 and 25,000 in 2015; in 2013 we wrote, "We admit it. We have no earthly idea how this whole thing is going to shake out." It shook out 31,046 sales in 2013, puffing that number up by more than 50 percent last year. GM thinks that this year it will it will go from Buick's third-best-selling vehicle to its best-selling vehicle. GM wants that to continue, what with the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, and Mazda CX-3 on the way. Dealers say they'd sell more if they could get them, and the four-month lead time at the moment between a dealer ordering and taking delivery – about double the normal time – creates a handicap. Plants in Mexico, Korea, and Spain will hive off production to bolster US inventory to keep the "downsizing empty nesters" who love it, happy. Seeing as the coming competition is falls meaningfully outside the Buick's combination of traits, there's a chance its popular tale can continue.
