1969 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible on 2040-cars
Discovery Bay, California, United States
After ten years of seeing this gorgeous Buick just parked in my garage, my wife finally laid down the law. This is going to be a tough decision, because I love this car and don't really want to sell it. It is a 72,000 documented mile factory A/C car that is not only a head turner every where we take it, but really wonderful to drive as well. In the past ten years, I have not put even 200 miles on the car. It has been used for local errands and parades only and spends all of its time locked in my garage. Everything in the car works, including the original factory AM Radio. The AC is in need of a charge, but the compressor does come on when you turn on the AC switch. It has factory stage 2 wheels with red line tires and the motor is a 350 cubic inch with 2 barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. When I bought the car, it came with a ton of receipts (see photos), including DMV registration going back to 1983. All of the receipts are in the name of the gentleman who I bought the car from. The car appears to have had one repaint many years ago and it still has a beautiful deep shine. The interior is all original and in extremely nice condition. The convertible top and rear window are in wonderful shape as well. This is a car that you can get in and drive anywhere and I guarantee you, every place you take it, you will get compliments from everyone who looks at it. We live in a small resort community here in northern California and every year we get a call from the Chamber of Commerce and local Lions Club asking to use the Buick in their upcoming parades.
I believe that cars like this 69 Buick, will do nothing but go up in value as the years go by. If you have been thinking about getting a 60's era car and you want one that you can drive and enjoy, rather than spend thousands repairing, this is the one you should be bidding on. This is a rust free, 72000 mile beauty with a clean clear California Title and registration paid through 2014. I ask that you please DO NOT bid on this car, if you don't have funds available to pay for it. I am located in northern California about an hour and twenty minutes from San Francisco. If you would like to come see the Buick before you bid, just send me an email, or give me a phone call and I will be glad to make arrangements with you to see the car. I can be reached at (925) 437-4701. There are no disappointments when you come to pick this beauty up. I guarantee that you will love the car when you see it. |

Repo man pays off elderly couple's car just in time for Thanksgiving
Mon, Nov 28 2016Repo men get bad raps for a good reason; no one likes having their car taken away. At least one guy in the repossession game proved folks in his profession aren't all bad when he helped an elderly couple hold on to their wheels right before Thanksgiving. According to the Belleville News-Democrat, unexpected bills and the rising cost of prescription medications pushed Stanford and Patty Kipping's fixed income to the breaking point. Unable to keep up with the $95 dollar a month payment on their 1998 Buick, they fell into arrears and the bank sent a repo man out to their home in Red Bud, Illinois to reclaim the car. Jim Ford, co-owner of Illini Recovery Inc., hooked up the old Buick and dragged it away, but later that night his conscience caught up with him. "When I got home that night, I said to myself, 'They are a real nice elderly couple. I gotta do something. I can't just take their car,'" Ford told the News-Democrat. Ford did do something, something surprisingly humane. He set up a GoFundMe and, within just a few short hours, he raised more than $3,500 dollars. This was enough money to pay off the Kipping's loan with a little left over for some maintenance. Ford and a friend then hooked the car back up and towed it back to the Kipping's home. Ford presented the couple with their trusty Buick, and threw in a thousand dollars in an envelope and a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving. "It was a miracle come true," Patty told the paper. "We didn't know what we were going to do." "I got up this morning and I looked up at the sun and I said, 'I hope we get our car back,'" added Stanford. "It's just unbelievable."Related Video: News Source: Belleville News-Democrat Auto News Weird Car News Buick repossession repo man
Why Mazda did so well and Volvo so poorly in Consumer Reports survey
Thu, Oct 25 2018The poor performances of Tesla and all three domestic automakers got the headlines in Consumer Reports magazine's latest reliability survey, but there were other results that caught our interest. Tiny Mazda notched the biggest gain among the 29 brands included in this year's list, leap-frogging nine spots to No. 3. Buick, which was in the top 10 last year, fell 11 spots to No. 19, the biggest decline of any brand. And then there's Volvo, a brand often vaunted for its quality and reliability, dropping six spots to dead last. What gives? For starters, all three brands benefited or suffered in large part due to their relatively small portfolio of vehicles. So when raves or complaints rolled in for even one particular model, as was often the case, it weighed heavily on the entire brand. That's especially true when it involves a relatively high-volume, hot-selling model such as the Buick Enclave (more on that in a moment). Mazda fared as well as it did despite the CX-3 losing Consumer Reports' influential "recommended" status due to problems with its climate system, including leaks from the condenser and refrigerant unit that triggered a service bulletin from the automaker in late 2016. Deputy auto editor Jon Linkov said that scratch didn't hurt the overall brand, since the CX-9 crossover and MX-5 Miata both jumped up to replace it on CR's list of newly recommended vehicles, thanks to several back fixes Mazda made to both models. For Buick, the redesigned Enclave SUV earned a "Much Worse Than Average" rating after owners reported problems with the new nine-speed automatic transmission it shares with the Chevrolet Traverse as well as some issues with the climate system. There were issues with rough shifting, plus complaints about the torque converter that necessitated fixes to the computer or outright replacement. "Again, similar stuff that we saw with the Traverse: both first-year vehicles, similar powertrains," LInkov said. He said all-new vehicles or redesigns typically fare poorly in CR's reliability survey due to issues that are hard to suss out before vehicles go into everyday use by consumers. The top-selling Encore and Envision fared well, Linkov said, but were outdone by the Enclave's problematic transmission components. The Enclave was Buick's second best-selling model through September at 35,227 units. Then there is Volvo, about which there is one word to sum up its woes: infotainment.
Buick asks design students 'What could a Buick sedan look like in 2030?'
Mon, 09 Jun 2014When you think of daring concept cars or emotional design-student projects, Buick probably isn't the first brand that comes to mind. It's not for lack of concepts; when General Motors ran down 11 concept-car highlights from Buick's 110-year history, three of them are from the past 15 years, with other experiments in that same timeframe like the Black Hawk, Centieme and Cielo left unmentioned.
But the company still thinks about them even if we don't. It ran a contest for students at Detroit's College for Creative Studies to create a Buick for the year 2030 that would incorporate future materials and transportation needs, and nanotechnology.
Best exterior design went to Sam Kenny for his Neo Classical Buick, Justin Salmon took honors for innovative material use, like having exposed algae on the bodyshell to generate energy, and Namsuk Lee nabbed best overall concept and best interior for his Buick Vision Sedan. You can read more about the design challenge and winners in the press release, and hear students talk about what went into the work in the video below.
