Up for bid is a 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Estate Wagon with 39k one owner miles. Clean Carfax. Collector's Edition like every '96 Roadmaster. Lifelong western car with no rust, nice paint, and beautiful undercarriage. It is not a garage queen, but miles are right as vehicle was used regularly for short trips around urban Seattle. Loaded up with power everything. Boasting GM's Corvette inspired multiport injected 5.7L LT1 V8 engine and 4L60E 4 speed automatic transmission, she puts down plenty of power. Tow package 2.93 limited slip rear end (GW9 & G80 build codes). Trailer preparation "tow package" means the factory rated the car to pull 5000 lbs but has no hitch (despite trailer prep name, these did not come from the factory with hitches so all hitches are aftermarket.) Delivers consistent 16 in town and 24 highway at 70 mph. Clean history - send me your email address and I'll send you the Carfax report. Runs and drives great - drive anywhere.

NO RESERVE.

Condition Report

ENGINE: Runs on all eight cylinders without smoking, missing or knocking. Engine runs at proper temperature. Newer battery & good charging system. Starts easy and runs strong.

TRANSMISSION: Performs beautifully. Engages gears quickly and shifts through all forward gears and reverse with good downshift and torque converter performance. Clean fluid with no burn odors.

EXTERIOR: Body: Body is in very nice shape except the hood which has several small dings, a few of which are pictured. The white paint makes it hard to see, but they are there - good enough for daily use, but would need a hood to be really nice. Very straight. No body rust ever. A
bove average body. Paint: Paint is in nice shape. Car was totally repainted as 96 primer was not compatible with the paint when new, and you'll see lots of these with big chunks of paint flaked off. This one won't have that problem now. Wood: Upper wood trim was removed, painted tan and reinstalled so it won't peel like most do at this age. The side panel fake wood is in good shape with a couple small scratches touched up with tan paint as seen in pics. Other: Lower stainless bright trim is very nice with a couple minor dings in the front bumper bright trim. Rubber side trim is all there. Glass is all good with no rock chips or cracks. Undercarriage is beautiful - see the pics. Underhood sheet metal, tailgate sill and door jambs have no rust as seen in pics. Aluminum wheels are in good shape with a little brake dust stain on the front wheels; rears are perfect.

INTERIOR: Interior of the car is in very nice shape as you'd expect of the miles. The only complaint is some wear on the driver's seat where your rear end goes as seen in pics. Dash has no cracks, rest of leather seating areas are in great shape, cargo deck carpet in good shape. Dash has some light fading that brightens with an Armor All application which last about a month. Headliner is nice - no rips - but some minor sagging near large side windows as is common on these. Steering wheel is in nice shape. Carpet is in very nice shape - only the driver's floormat shows any wear - some minor stains under floormats. No smoke or pet odors. Nice interior overall.

ELECTRICAL STUFF: All inspection items work (lights, horn, wipers, etc.) Except for the heated seats, which work intermittently, all other power options work reliably, including power windows, power locks, dual power seats with power lumbar and power recliners, hot heat and cold A/C, tilt, cruise, am/fm stereo cassette, power antenna, rear window release, rear wiper, twilight sentinel, intermittent wipers, and rear defroster. Rear wiper arm is broken so it a little floppy but works. The keyless fob is missing, but if you buy one and send to bring to me when you come pick up the car, I'll program it to the car. New ones are $65 and used $10-20 on eBay.

DRIVEABILITY: Drives out very nicely. Steering is tight, alignment is dead on, suspension is low-mile tight. Brakes work well with good linings. Tires have about 80% tread remaining on a matched set of Goodrich radials. Solid, quiet exhaust with no leaks. Check engine light is not lit (except at start up as it should.) No complaints - drive anywhere.

Short version terms: Small non-refundable deposit as listed (but fast) by Paypal within 24 hours. Balance due in 5 days by cash in person, wire transfer, or Wells Fargo cashier's check. Will meet you or your transporter at my location by appointment after 6 pm weekdays or anytime weekends. No administrative fee on this auction. Any other costs - tax, emissions inspection, registration, shipping, etc. are buyer's responsibility - see full terms. 30 days to pick up. Temporary tags available at local license bureau on weekdays. WILL PICK YOU UP AT THE CHARLESTON, SC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT weekday evenings or any time weekends. Inspections are strongly encouraged, but by appointment only - please email or call. By bidding, you agree you are satisfied with the item description. Note that pickup times are by appointment only also - just call! Prepaid vehicles scheduled for transport can be picked up any time with at least 24 business hours' notice - have your driver call me. I'm happy to drive the car to a nearby large parking lot for easier truck loading. See my about me page for full terms.

2017 Buick LaCrosse priced at $32,990

Mon, May 16 2016

Buick has announced the starting price for its totally redesigned LaCrosse sedan, and it's looking competitive. According to the company's consumer website, the base trim will start at $32,990, while the vehicle featured on the page is helpfully listed as "As Shown: $45,560." Buick is being coy about the standard equipment list, but we do know a few traditionally higher-end options will be free of charge, including an eight-inch touchscreen that's compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and HID headlamps. General Motors' 4G LTE wifi is a no-cost feature (although you'll need to shell out for a data plan, eventually). The optional extras list, which will include goodies like adaptive cruise control, hasn't been published yet. Underhood, all LaCrosse models will get eight-speed automatic transmissions paired with 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engines. The new powertrain, plucked from the Cadillac XT5, has stop-start and cylinder deactivation as standard to save fuel, although it's still too early to predict where the LaCrosse will fall on the EPA scale. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive will be available for a unknown premium. Buick says the sedan's reasonable starting price backs the company's "position of attainable luxury." And that's true. At $32,990 the LaCrosse is $560 less than the $33,550 base Toyota Avalon, $355 less than the $33,345 Nissan Maxima S, and $850 less than the $33,840 Kia Cadenza. Only the antiquated Ford Taurus, at $27,985, can undercut it. On the opposite end, the LaCrosse is $6,945 less than a front-drive Lincoln MKS and $6,060 less than a Lexus ES. Starting prices are useful tools for comparison but they only go so far – we'll have to wait until next month, when full details are released, to see how truly reasonable the LaCrosse's price is.

Junkyard Gem: 1990 Buick Reatta

Wed, Oct 4 2017

General Motors built some interesting sporty cars during the late 1980s and early 1990s, as the company attempted to claw back market share from European manufacturers of high-end two-doors. There was the mean-looking Oldsmobile Trofeo, the Turin-to-Hamtramck Cadillac Allante, and the gadget-packed Buick Reatta. Here's an example of the latter car, wearing Maui Blue paint and residing in a Denver self-service wrecking yard. There was a lot to like about the Reatta, but the powertrain came as a disappointment: the ancient, rough-running pushrod Buick 3.8-liter V6 engine, driving the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The 3800 engine made 165 horses in 1990, which wasn't bad for that year, but Reatta money would have bought you a new 1990 BMW 3-Series with a tuneful 168-horse DOHC straight-six. The Buick V6 was something of an Albanian grain-thresher motor compared to the engines in the Reatta's European rivals' cars: rugged but crude. The pre-1990 Reattas came with Buick's amazing touchscreen computer interface, which may have scared off the most conservative Buick traditionalists. This car had more typical-for-1990 controls. Only 6,388 Reatta coupes were made for 1990, so we're looking at one rare Buick here. Handcrafted by these artisans in Lansing. Next-gen LaCrosse, Cascada convertible coming to Buick showrooms in 2016

Thu, Jul 24 2014

It's difficult to overstate how significant the post-bankruptcy years have been for General Motors' Buick brand. Arguably the most improved American automaker, Buick has rounded out its range with an excellent compact in the Verano, a well-balanced midsizer in the Regal and a segment-busting mini-CUV, with the Encore. Seeking to keep that momentum going, the next several years will see the brand address a trio of its most obvious issues. First and foremost will be a replacement for the aging LaCrosse, a vehicle whose only bit of attention since its 2009 debut was a very light refresh in 2013. According to Automotive News, we should expect the next-generation LaCrosse to arrive late next year or early in 2016, as a 2016 model. AN expects big design changes, as Buick attempts to further the LaCrosse from its popular platform-mate, the Chevrolet Impala. The changes won't be so radical, though, as to do away with its front-drive architecture, as the latest version of the Epsilon platform will underpin the next LaCrosse. The 3.6-liter V6 is likely to carry on, although a smaller, budget-minded offering is also extremely likely (we'll eat our hat if it's not the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder from the Regal, Verano and Cadillac CTS et al.). The other issue plaguing Buick's lineup is a lack of a midsize crossover. This is particularly damning for the brand as most of its showrooms are shared with GMC, which boasts its own midsizer in the form of the Terrain. With the upcoming Envision (see here for teasers), that problem should be addressed. Like the LaCrosse, the Envision will likely be a 2016 model. It will debut and launch in China early next year, while we can expect it to arrive stateside later next year, or even early in 2016. For American consumers, both a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and the aforementioned 2.0T could see action in the Envision. Finally, while Buick can boast a pair of vehicles available with manual transmissions, it's still far from what we'd call a brand for fun driving experiences. Of course, one way of solving that problem is with a two-door convertible. Yes, it's extremely likely that the Euro-market Opel Cascada convertible will be sold in the US early in 2016. Whether it keeps the Cascada name is unclear (all in favor of Skylark, say "aye"). Regardless, adding a reasonably priced, relaxed, two-door droptop to the Buick range to fill the space left by the not-so-dearly departed Chrysler 200 Convertible seems like a no brainer.
