Rare 1999 Buick Riviera Silver Arrow, 1/200, Supercharged Nr No Reserve Sunroof on 2040-cars
Alexandria, Virginia, United States
Happy July 4! What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a classic American automobile – the last of its kind, the final 20th Century iteration of the Big American Luxury Coupe: The 1999 Buick Riviera Silver Arrow limited edition. Buick’s top-of-the-line Riviera was always a statement of style, performance and technological prowess. Rivieras are invariably cool, but this one is especially so, and also the rarest of the rare. Let me put in perspective how exceedingly rare this particular car is. It’s the final year of the Buick Riviera, a proud line that ran from 1963 to 1999. While the first year Riviera sold 40,000 copies, a number that would rise to more than 63,000 units in 1995, the final year of production was abridged and merely 1,956 cars were sold. Yes, less than two thousand units, which represents about 5% of the average year for the Riv. Of that already tiny number, the final 200 made were Silver Arrow special editions. It’s not that unusual for a manufacturer to have a limited run of 2,000 cars, or even 500, but for a major American manufacturer to make just 200 is exceptional. The combination of this being a top-of-the-line car with a high output supercharged engine, the final year of a legendary model, the lowest production year by far in the car’s history, and this limited edition within that small number creates the perfect storm for this car to be one of the few genuinely collectible American cars of its era. This Silver Arrow has been owned for the past decade by friends of mine who treasured it. Kristi, its primary driver, is selling it because a new job requires her to have a four-door vehicle. In the time she owned this car Kristi kept the car well maintained. It has had regular service as needed, and the transmission was professionally rebuilt two years and 20,000 miles ago at a cost of $2,600. My daily driver is a Cadillac with only 30,000 miles and this Buick compares very strongly for its quiet, confident smoothness. Cosmetically and mechanically, this is a car that you can drive now, while upgrading the areas you’d like to perfect over time. This car is anything but boring. It’s special and you’ll feel that every mile you drive it. It’s lovable as it is and will thrive with more love given back to it. You'll find it gets lots of attention. The car passed Virginia’s tough safety inspection 6,000 miles ago in October 2013. Now 15 years old, it remains solid and strong but it has a few issues. The biggest one at the moment is a broken passenger door lock that frequently keeps that door from opening. The air conditioning needs a charge. The suspension bushings are late in life. The Michelin Defender tires are just two years old and have excellent tread. The power equipment is in great shape -- power seats work well, power windows are lightning fast, and the power sunroof works great too. The photos show that this car looks good and it’s quite presentable in person. Most paint is excellent. The passenger door had a scrape repaired that could be revisited and improved. The back bumper cover was also poorly repainted and is a little pushed in on the driver’s side. The interior has some wear but it has never been abused and it remains supremely comfortable. The elegant leather seats show reasonable wear, but if it is of interest, I also have a full set of matching grey leather Riviera seats in excellent condition! The wood and special trim are in good shape for the age. The car has its correct Silver Arrow badges on both sides, as well as stitched into the headrests. There is a plaque on the dash identifying this car as #069 of 200. The original leather owner’s pouch is included. So are the Silver Arrow key fobs. And the original $38,595 window sticker (that translates to $54,000 today given inflation). Originally a Texas car purchased from James Wood Motors of Decatur, the car has spent all but the first year of its life in the Washington, D.C. area. It is currently at my house in Alexandria, Virginia. If you are local I encourage you to come by for a test drive. If you are from out of town, I’m confident this car could be driven home; fly in to one of three regional airports (DCA is closest, or BWI or IAD) and drive your big new coupe wherever your road may lead! About me: I'm a friend of the car's owner. I'm the past president of a national car club and a car enthusiast who gets a huge kick out of getting to play with a special car like this Buick and find it a good home. I know the car really well, have driven it more than 100 miles personally, and am focused on a win-win transaction that will get Kristi what it's worth and a new owner a good deal for a rare collector car. Please ask me any questions you may have and I'll do my best to get back to you quickly. I've bought and sold cars on eBay and I know that this program can work brilliantly well. I would like a $500 deposit within 48 hours of this auction’s end, preferably by PayPal. The remainder should be paid in a bank check unless other arrangements are made. I am glad to store the car up to one month after it is paid for. I can mail the clear title to you upon payment clearing if you desire. Thank you for checking out this rare Riviera Silver Arrow -- you may never see another!

General Motors posts record earnings, but global sales fall
Thu, Apr 21 2016General Motors started the year with record success. The automaker's $2.7 billion in adjusted earnings before interest and taxes was its highest ever in in the first quarter of 2016, up from $2.1 billion in from the same time period a year earlier. Net income grew to $1.95 billion, which was more than double the $953 million in the same period last year. The company's figures also beat analysts' predictions, according to the Detroit Free Press. Despite the financial growth, global sales actually decreased by 2.5 percent to 2.36 million vehicles. "We're growing where it counts, gaining retail share in the US, outpacing the industry in Europe and capitalizing on robust growth in SUV and luxury segments in China," CEO Mary Barra said in the company's financial announcement. GM did well in North America with an adjusted EBIT of $2.3 billion, up from $2.2 billion last year. Sales in the region also grew 1.2 percent to 800,000 vehicles. According to The Detroit Free Press, the company has been especially successful at selling more expensive models in the US. The company's average vehicle was $34,600 in Q1, about $3,000 more than the industry average. Elsewhere in the world, GM also showed improvement. Europe practically broke even after losing about $200 million last year, and Opel and Vauxhall sales grew 8.4 percent to more than 300,000 vehicles for the quarter. South America only lost $100 million, which was half as much as Q1 2015's $200 million loss. China remained flat at $500 million of income. Cadillac volume jumped 6.1 percent there, and Buick's deliveries increased 22 percent, thanks to the Envision crossover's success. GM Reports First-Quarter Net Income of $2.0 Billion 2016-04-21 EPS diluted of $1.24; First-quarter record EPS diluted-adjusted of $1.26 First-quarter record EBIT-adjusted of $2.7 billion GM Europe posts break-even performance DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today announced first-quarter net income to common stockholders of $2.0 billion or $1.24 per diluted share, compared to $0.9 billion or $0.56 per diluted share a year ago. Earnings per share diluted-adjusted for special items was a first-quarter record at $1.26, up 47 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015. The company set first-quarter records for earnings and margin, with earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) adjusted of $2.7 billion and EBIT-adjusted margin of 7.1 percent.
Junkyard Gem: 1983 Buick LeSabre Estate Station Wagon, Rocky Mountain High Edition
Thu, Mar 23 2017If you live in Colorado and want an affordable chariot to haul you and your snowboarding droogs to the slopes, you could get one of the obvious cheapskate choices, e.g., a Tercel 4WD, a Corolla All-Trac, or an 80s 4WD Subaru wagon. However, if you want to channel the spiritual forefathers of early-1980s punk rock (and you do), you'll need a big, battered, Detroit bomb. This '83 LeSabre, spotted in a Denver self-service wrecking yard, is such a car. As you can see in 1984's Suburbia, you're pretty much halfway to being a member of The Vandals when you drive a couple of tons of once-luxurious Detroit Iron. 1983 was the final year of the Malaise Era, and so you didn't get much power from the V8s back then. The standard engine for the LeSabre that year was an Olds 307 generating a mere 140 horsepower. The only way to get a burnout out of this setup was to pour a case of Lucky Lager over the right rear tire, then neutral-drop the transmission while floating the valves. Chrysler and Nissan dominated the Whorehouse Red car interiors during the 1980s, but GM made a respectable showing with this scratchy, velour-influenced stuff. When you know you're a car's last owner, nothing holds you back from decorating it to suit your tastes. Ron Paul, the Snowboarders + Skiers For Christ, and many other icons of Buick-driving snow enthusiasts are represented upon the ample flanks of this wagon. How many miles are on it? With a five-digit odometer, there's no telling. The Colorado sun is rough on interiors, but this car may have spent its first couple of decades parking in a garage, or maybe it came from cloudy Oregon. Advertising for this generation of LeSabre emphasized fuel economy, which may have been a less-than-convincing approach. Related Video:
GM announces 6 recalls covering nearly 720k cars
Wed, 23 Jul 2014General Motors has announced yet another sprawling recall campaign, with six separate elements covering 717,950 vehicles on US roads. At this point in 2014, it's starting to seem like there are more days with a GM recall than without. Perhaps most troubling about this latest volley, though, is that every vehicle is from the past few years, indicating that GM's quality woes may not be limited to pre-bankruptcy vehicles.
The largest element of this latest campaign covers 414,333 units, and includes the 2011 to 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, 2010 to 2012 Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX and the 2011 to 2012 Buick Regal and LaCrosse. Only vehicles with powered, height-adjustable seats are covered. In these particular cars and crossovers, the bolt that secures the height adjuster actuator may loosen of its own accord and in some cases fall out completely. If this happens, the seats will be able to move both up and down. GM claims the vehicles are safe to drive, provided drivers don't vertically adjust their seats. This particular issue has caused one crash and three injuries.
