1985 Buick Riviera Luxury Coupe 2-door 5.0l V-8 on 2040-cars
Santa Ana, California, United States
This car is sharp in black with a dark window tint. The Upholstery is blue cloth. The engine is a solid and reliable 307 V-8 coupled with a recently serviced automatic transmission with overdrive. The Registration has been paid through July of 2015. It has Power Steering, Power Seats, Power Windows, Air Conditioning (which currently needs work), Tinted Glass, Newer Tires, Awesome Wire Wheels and a 12-cd changer in the trunk. It has new shocks all around (air shocks in the rear), so the ride is very smooth. The headliner is in perfect condition, no sagging The Odometer says 28,274 but real mileage is probably 128,274. The engine always starts, idles and runs well. Issue areas: The paint is high gloss and beautiful, but there are some small chips in it, probably from gravel, mainly on the trunk lid. The vinyl roof is worn and could either be removed or be replaced inexpensively. The A/C recently stopped working, I think there is a hole in the line. The Gas gauge is not working, but I can drive 200 miles before needing a fill-up and have never run out of gas - I just use the odometer. The blue dash cap has been cracked by the sun but has been covered with a black rubber topper, which looks fine as-is or can be replaced if you desire. You can use this car to commute every day or make it a hobby car for weekend jaunts. Either way, you won't be disappointed. This car is available for viewing in Lake Forest, California. I will work with any shippers that you contract with directly. Once released to the shipper, I cannot be responsible for any damage that may occur. Of course, being almost 30 years old, the car does not come with a warranty and is being sold as-is, with no returns. You are more than welcome to test drive it and have it inspected by a mechanic before purchase. I will accept cash, personal check, money order, cashier's check, wire transfer or straight deposit. Possession and title transfer upon bank confirmation of funds. If you have any concerns, we can use an escrow service. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Thank you for your interest. |

Buick boss shuts down idea of importing Opel Adam
Wed, Mar 30 2016Anyone hoping for Buick to sell small city cars in America, you're not going to like this story. Buick boss Duncan Aldred has effectively ruled out importing the stylish Opel Adam city car for US drivers. Yep, this is us being bummed. Admittedly, the business case for Adam is not as strong as it used to be. Gas is cheap and consumers have fallen back in love with the idea of high-riding crossovers instead of efficient cars. That's why Buick sold twice as many teeny, tiny Encore CUVs in 2015 as it did its smallest car, the Verano. With that in mind, slotting in another car, let alone one below the Verano, isn't a great idea. Of course, Aldred didn't come out and say as much, even though he campaigned for a US-market Adam in the past. "I very much did feel when I came over that that could really help accelerate the Buick brand story," the executive told Automotive News at last week's New York Auto Show. "I don't see that as much. Whether the market shifted or the fashion nature of those cars has changed, I don't know. But I wouldn't be looking for a small, B-segment car today." That, friends, is a real bummer. Adding a car like the Adam, even in a small, captive-import capacity would add a real dose of fun to Buick showrooms and (we're guessing) would bring in younger foot traffic. Related Video:
Why Buick's future lies in China
Mon, Apr 10 2017Back in the last half of 2008 and into 2009, when General Motors was looking at too much capacity for too few customers, when it was running out of money and needing to go to the governments of the US and Canada and to the UAW for financial support, its management team was pretty much instructed by the feds to focus resources on what would create the best likelihood for a return on the investments and guarantees that it was getting. Things needed to be cut, and not just the corporate air fleet. This led to the elimination of Saturn, Hummer and Pontiac and the sale of Saab to Spyker. What remained of GM's North American brand portfolio was Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC. (Oldsmobile had been shuttered in 2004.) There were a variety of opinions regarding which brands GM should keep/lose during the midst of the Great Recession. Some thought GMC should be axed, but then it was pointed out that GMC essentially produced high-content Chevys, which resulted in fantastic transaction costs. Lots of money in the back of those pickups. Others thought Buick should be eliminated. The rationale was: Chevy was the mass-market brand, Cadillac was the luxury brand, and GMC helped leverage the company's investment in trucks. (Yes, even back then the F-Series was winning the pickup sales race, so it was always a matter of adding Silverado and Sierra sales to show that GM was solidly in the game.) So what was Buick? Better than Chevy but not as good as a Cadillac? Somehow that doesn't seem to be a particularly aspirational position to hold. But Buick's identity didn't need to be worked out in 2008-09 because there was a single compelling reason to keep it: China. According to official GM history, Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the first provisional president of China, and Zhou Enlai, a Chinese premier, "Either owned, drove or were driven in Buick automobiles." What's more: "According to statistics from the Shanghai government, in 1930 one out of every six cars on the city's roads was a Buick." Which is to say that Buick got to China early and has a major presence in that market. When the Regal Sportback and Regal TourX were being unveiled at the GM Design Dome the first week of April, Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick, gave a briefing of Buick's place on the automotive landscape.
2013 Buick Encore nets strong IIHS, NHTSA safety scores
Wed, 05 Jun 2013After being crushed from every which way and rolled over like a labrador, the 2013 Buick Encore has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn the accolade, a vehicle must achieve the highest rating of "Good" in each of the institute's four main crash tests: Front Moderate Overlap, Side, Rollover and Rear. The Encore aced those four tests with "Good" ratings, but missed out on the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation by receiving a Poor rating in the institute's new Front Small Overlap test. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, the Encore would need to score at least an "Acceptable" rating in the new test, as well as "Good" in all four original crash tests.
Despite the miss, the Encore joins the Enclave, LaCrosse, Verano and Regal as Top Safety Picks all. If you count only the Encore with all-wheel drive, then all five Buicks have also earned five-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration, making Buick one of the few manufacturers to offer a full lineup with high scores from both safety rating organizations.
The front-wheel-drive Encore, despite performing equally as well as the all-wheel-drive version in NHTSA's crash tests, only earned four stars overall. As far as we can tell, the discrepancy between the two is because some safety equipment, like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Assist, are optional features on the FWD Encore and standard on the AWD model.
