1971 Supercharged-455 Buick Riviera on 2040-cars
Pocatello, Idaho, United States
An absolute one-of-a-kind, fully restored 1971 Buick Riviera, appearing original stock but with a pro-built Supercharged 455 Buick engine (the only engine size available in 1971/1972 boat-tail Riviera Buicks). An exemplary car was completely restored by 2003, beginning with only 66,000 originial miles. As of April 28, 2014, total miles on the Riviera are 71,774. For the second time during its history, the 455 engine was rebuilt again from a strong 370-hp into a supercharged (ProCharger Products) 455 Buick engine pumping over 540-hp (noted under 5K-rpms on pump gas) with a medium range charger boosting 14-lbs into a 950-cfm special carburetor. The supercharged engine has only 4790-miles on it to date, trouble-free. Numerous engine build photos go with the car, along with a file record of work done, summary information sheet, and various articles about the particular Buick.
The body is completely - over, under and in-between - rust free after a frame off total restoration with exact chassis paint and all new replacement parts. The car runs T-rated rubber around 1971 after-market wheels with painted, matched centers to the base/clear exterior color, carrying also a matched spare tire and wheel. The interior is 98% stock original with some refinements and newer materials. All instrumentation functions correctly and accurately, and all features appear like-new throughout. All freshly replaced tires, seals and weather-stripping. All light-green tinted glass initially replaced new. And all stainless trim either replaced with new or polished new (extra trim goes with the car purchase). The Buick is conservatively lowered 2.5" up front and 2" in the rear with a set of QA1 adjustable shocks to maintain perfect alignment and balance and, of course, the traditional easy Buick ride. All exterior chrome has been re-done to perfection. The car is entirely insulated for inside and outside noise/temperature control. The Buick Riviera needs nothing but a road to run upon.... An impressively strong running Buick Big-Block sports a P-1SC Inter-cooled ProCharger boosting excessive horses when demanded. The engine also runs a belt-driven GZ Motor Sports Vacuum Pump which supports and balances the 14-lb boost of the supercharger into a closed-engine. All supercharger and vacuum pump instruction manuals, sources and resources are included with the car history, along with step-by-step information for reference and maintenance. Also a supply of supercharger oil goes with a sale (only requiring 6-oz of new oil every 7000-miles). A rebuilt 400 Buick trans runs the engine power into Buick 2.93-ratio rear-end with internal hardened Moser axles, a positive-traction differential with four-bar links and one-inch front and rear sway bars. Electronically, HEI distribution and a 105-amp alternator supports an Optima battery, electrical systems and sensors. A new original cross-flow radiator was replaced in 2009 with an updated/closed recovery system. As an exceptional Buick Riviera collector example in June 2012, it won international First Place recognition, "Best Modified/Custom Buick," by Riviera Owners Association International Meet in Monterey CA. In fact, it has won recognition at every run, exhibition or show attended to date. There is no other '71 Buick Riviera like it on the road. Become the new proud owner. Call or email for more photos and information, should you wish to become a serious owner. Please no "how-did-I-do-it" inquiries.... Thanks for reviewing and considering. |

Don't buy that crossover! Buy a cladded wagon instead!
Fri, Nov 10 2017If you're looking to buy a car soon, and you're like most Americans, there's a strong chance you're considering buying a crossover SUV. That's what people want nowadays. People like the tough, tall exterior that suggests adventure and preparedness, they like the high seating position, they like the all wheel drive many have and they like the practicality. Because of this, crossovers have rapidly supplanted typical cars such as sedans, wagons, and more as the most popular vehicles in the country. But they're compromised, too. They're often heavy, thirsty, and expensive compared with more conventional cars. The good news is, there's an alternative, a happy medium between the straight crossover and the traditional car. They're lifted wagons, and they're the best crossover SUVs around. And for those who may not know what we're talking about, we're talking about cars and wagons that have been given a suspension lift for more ground clearance and a higher ride height, and often have all wheel drive standard or optional. They also usually have chunky plastic body cladding to make them look tough and durable. Examples include the Subaru Crosstrek, Audi A4 Allroad, Buick Regal TourX, and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, among others. Because of the suspension and body modifications, these vehicles fit the trendy crossover mold quite well. And in the case of long-running nameplates such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo Cross Country models, they even have some heritage as outdoorsy machines. They also provide the higher driving position that crossover buyers love. And in some cases, such as with the Golf Alltrack, we've learned they offer better ride quality than their road-oriented siblings. View 9 Photos So these tall wagons offer the key things crossover buyers want, but what makes them better than traditional crossovers is that they have the advantages of the cars they're based on. For instance, the aforementioned Golf Alltrack still drives mostly like a Golf, which is to say, it's nimble, feels peppy, and is easy to maneuver because of its relatively small size. We can't really say the same for the Tiguan, which feels generally more sluggish and uninteresting than the Alltrack. And we mention Volkswagen's compact crossover because it starts at nearly the same price as the Alltrack. Some of the difference in giddy-up can be explained by weight. Normal crossovers can be fairly portly, while these lifted wagons are notably lighter.
Next Opel Insignia to adopt sleeker looks
Fri, Aug 21 2015The very first set of spy photos of the next-generation Opel Insignia have dropped, giving us a look at the more svelte, aggressive, and stylish look of the popular sedan. As a reminder, the Insignia is sold here in the United States as the Buick Regal. There's only so much we can discern from these photos, thanks to the very heavy camouflage. But we can get a look at the new Audi A7-like roofline, which our spies citing similarities to the Opel Monza concept car from the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Monza link fits with our previous reports, which claimed the gullwinged wagon would serve as a prime source of inspiration for both the Insignia and US-market Regal. Aside from the significantly redesigned sheetmetal, Opel is also increasing the size of its flagship sedan, adding nearly four inches between the axles. According to our spies, the goal is to build a vehicle comparable in size to the Skoda Superb, a roughly Volkswagen Passat-sized sedan based on the VW Group's MQB platform. What's most interesting for US customers, though, is the body style shown here. Like the aforementioned A7, the next Insignia will be offered as a five-door model, rather than a traditional sedan. The five-door hatch would later be joined by a traditional wagon. It's unclear whether the US market Buick will take a similar route, or whether General Motors will demand a four-door variant exclusive to North America. Check out the spy photos above, and keep an eye open for more on the next Insignia/Regal. Don't plan on seeing it at an auto show any time soon, though. It's not slated to debut until the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
We want this Buick Regal wagon rumor to be true
Tue, May 31 2016The car we know in the US as the Buick Regal is sold as a Vauxhall/ Opel Insignia in Europe, where it's offered in four-door sedan, five-door liftback, and wagon body styles. Call it a case of wanting what we can't have, but we like the last two body styles a lot. Based on a report from a Buick/ GMC dealer meeting in Austin, one of them could be coming to the US soon. According to a poster identified as 97GreenRS on the forums at GM Inside News, GM showed dealers the 2018 Buick Enclave, Regal, and Regal GS, as well as the 2018 GMC Terrain, and then confirmed it would offer the Regal wagon here in the US. While that wouldn't normally be all that much to go on, we know Buick has been toying with the idea of a wagon for some time. A Regal-badged wagon was spotted way back in 2011. More recently, we reported on a trademark filing for "Tourx" and "Regal Tourx," which suggest a long roof (Tour) and all-wheel drive (x). If the Regal wagon arrives alongside the base sedan and GS as a 2018 model, we'd expect a debut within the next 15 or so months. That would place it right at the beginning of the 2017 auto show season, which starts next September in Frankfurt, Germany. With that in mind, it seems possible the new Regal would debut first as an Opel Insignia before appearing at a US show like Los Angeles or Detroit, although there's a lot of speculation going on there. We just want to see "Buick" and "wagon" in the same sentence again. Related Video:
