Up for auction is one of the most iconic designs of the 60s-the 1965 Buick Riviera. One of GM's all time classics, the 65 Riviera is always on the list of best designs. This particular car is special indeed as it is one of the few remaining Rivieras that has not been modified, crashed, repainted or rusted. This Buick is a true survivor with original paint, drive train and interior. It still wears its original California black plates and even has the original selling dealer plate frames on the car. The engine, trans, etc are all the parts this Riviera was born with. Incredibly, there is zero rust on the car. This car also drives very well. The 401 engine is smooth, powerful and pulls strongly. The switch pitch transmission works perfectly. All the accessories work except a slipping power seat motor. The AC was completely refurbished at great expense(even the original compressor was preserved and rebuilt) and blows cold. The iconic clam shell head headlight covers work well as they have had a modern electric motor conversion installed(original headlight motor included). A complete, mandrel bent, stainless steel dual exhaust has been fitted and it sounds great-classic V8 burble.
The power windows work smoothly, the cars drives well and tracks down the highway with authority. The switch pitch trans allows the car to accelerate very well and yet cruise smoothly on the highway. The engine bay is original. clean and presents well. The interior is in wonderful original condition. The chrome and stainless trim are in particularly fine condition. It is equipped with the optional wood wheel and it looks great. The console wood was refurbished, again, at considerable expense and with real veneer. The controls feel good and the doors open and shut like new. The trunk is original, tidy and clean. The original radio is present and works. All the interior lighting works as it should. This is simply a fantastic car to cruise to a Cars and Coffee, a nice coastal run, a night on the town or even to relive the Rat Pack glory days and head to Vegas. The original headliner is in beautiful shape and the original Buick visor mirror is present. It doesn't appear that this Riviera has ever been in an accident as it has all of its original panels and they fit well. Very recent work includes: the AC, trans service, headlight motor, clutch fan, plugs, fluids, filters and exhaust. The car rides on its original Buick chrome sport wheels with nice center caps. The tires have good tread. The brakes work well and don't pull. All of the difficult to find items like trim, grill, emblems, headlight visors, etc are present and in nice shape. This a very nice, unmolested Riviera. I purchased the car from the second owner that obtained it from the original owner's estate. The miles are claimed to be 54,000 original and I have no reason to doubt this-although I was not provided records and proof of this. Is this survivor perfect? No, it is a 49 year old car after all. The paint, while original, has many flaws-numerous chips, scrapes, minor dings, etc. It has a couple areas where it appears that it was crudely touched up-no bondo or anything like that-just poorly applied touch up that doesn't quite match color. The paint looks better in the images than it actually is. If I were to keep the Riviera, I'd probably repaint it. I was reluctant to do so, because that original paint just has such a cool patina to it and I wanted a potential buyer to see there are no issues with the body. Also, the driver seat upholstery has split in a few places and the carpet shows a few wear areas. There are two plastic moldings that hold the power window switches-they are cracked and damaged and should be replaced(I am trying to source a pair and if I do will include with car). To summarize, this is a great, survivor Buick. The 65 is the model everyone wants as it was the only year offered with clam shell headlight covers. A black plate, original California car, this is a wonderful Riviera that can be driven now and enjoyed. It is very rare to find one of these that has not been customized ,rusted or repainted. Should the new owner want to show restore a 65, this car would be a perfect candidate. I am offering the Riviera at no reserve. It is sold "As Is" with no warranty, implied or otherwise. It will also be offered for sale locally in the near future, so I reserve the right to end the auction if such a sale occurs. I have the clear California title in my name. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. |

Third 1987 Buick Regal GNX will be auctioned in January
Mon, Nov 13 2017A member of the 1987 Buick press fleet is hitting the auction block next year and it's a rarified gem: a low-mileage Regal Grand National GNX, serial No. 003 and one of just 547 models built for that year, and the last of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive Grand Nationals. It'll be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January. The GNX No. 003 was loaned out to publications including Autoweek, Motor Trend and Road & Track, where it racked up around 8,200 miles. "Through it all, a constant sad undertone was the understanding that 1987 was to be the final appearance of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive G-body (which also underpinned the best-selling Chevy Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix and Olds Cutlass)," reads a the description published on Barrett-Jackson's website. "A totally redesigned W-body Somerset Regal, with front-wheel drive and unitized body construction, was slated to replace the popular midsize Buick in 1988." So Buick opted to make "a Grand National to end all Grand Nationals" with the '87 GNX, partnering with ASC/McLaren to equip them with wheel lip flares, fender vents, 16-by-8-inch BBS rims and more aggressive tires. It left untouched the Grand National's standard Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection 3.8-liter V6 but added a larger Garrett T-3 turbocharger with a ceramic impeller, a larger intercooler, more aggressive fuel, spark and waste gate tables, and a dual exhaust system that boosted output from 235 horsepower and 330 foot-pounds of torque to 276 hp and 360 lb-ft. That was enough, Barrett-Jackson reports, to make the performance coupe quicker and faster in quarter-mile tests than the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 930 Turbo. After making the test-drive rounds in the automotive media, the car sold in 1988 as a brass hat/company official car to Fischer Buick in Troy, Mich. with approximately 8,200 miles on it. From there, it quickly sold to a local resident who drove it very little, and sold it in the spring of 1989. Since 1992, it has reportedly been kept in climate-controlled storage, totally original, unmodified and undamaged, with just 10,790 miles on the odometer today. It recently underwent a complete mechanical service and cosmetic reconditioning. You can check out the listing on Barrett-Jackson here. The first '87 GNX ever produced resides in the General Motors Heritage Collection and No. 002 is at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Mich. Interestingly, another '87 GNX, No.
2020 Chevy Trax and Buick Encore spied testing
Tue, Aug 14 2018We just recently saw a little crossover SUV from General Motors being tested, and we weren't positive what brand it belonged to. We narrowed it down to Chevy or GMC, but we're feeling more confident that it's a GMC now, since both the next generation Chevy Trax and Buick Encore subcompact crossover SUVs have been spied testing together. Of the two, the Chevy has the more radically different sheet metal. It ditches the somewhat frumpy, lumpy shape of the current Trax for a body inspired by the bigger Chevy Blazer. The roofline has sharp corners, and the hood is wide and flat. The front fascia, though obscured, shows the most connection to the bigger crossover. It has the same split headlight configuration, and it looks as though the grille takes up a sizable section of the fascia. View 7 Photos The Buick Encore on the other hand looks evolutionary in design. The body still has plenty of curves, and the distinctive, sharply rising window sill are all hallmarks of the current Encore design. The headlights and grille are similar, too, though the grille appears to be slightly updated to fit in with the Enclave and Regal. It's understandable that Buick might want to play it safe with the new Encore, since the model is Buick's best seller, selling about 23,000 units in the last quarter, nearly twice that of the next best performer, the Enclave. Since this is the first time we've seen these little crossovers, we expect it will still be a year or two before we get to see them fully revealed. They will probably continue to use small-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder engines with either front- or all-wheel drive. Related Video:
2022 Buick Enclave revealed with refreshed styling, more standard features
Thu, Jun 3 2021Buick gave us a sneak peak at the 2022 Enclave back in January, but it officially pulled the sheet back Wednesday to reveal the extent of its updated styling and detail a few updates to its feature content, including a new suite of standard safety tech. We can now better see the various exterior styling touch-ups, including a larger, more pronounced grille, new head- and taillights, and more angularly sculpted front and rear bumpers. The Avenir's exterior treatment was also updated to incorporate the new elements. The changes aren't too dramatic, but Buick did enough to make the 2022 visually distinguishable from previous years. The new standard safety suite is Buick's Driver Confidence Plus package. It includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic high-beams. Buick's midsize crossover is still powered by a standard 310-horsepower V6 with optional all-wheel drive. The range-topping Avenir model includes an adaptive suspension and unique styling elements. Despite our previous expectations, the Enclave's cabin didn't really get an upgrade apart from the standard safety items listed above. Buick did not include pricing information in Wednesday's announcement, so you can look forward to yet another update before the 2022 Enclave goes on sale later this year.
