Listed for auction is a RARE 1964 Buick Riviera wearing its original paint and interior. This is a car that has been sitting since 1982.It was purchased from the original owner 4 years ago by the neighbor across the street, then purchased by me.He had intentions of getting it running but decided at 83 years old it was time to let it go.This is one of 2122 Rivieras built in 1964 with the 425 Super Wildcat KX code engine with dual carbs and dual snorkel air cleaner. The carbs and intake with all linkages intact. It has the original transmission and rear end which was ordered as an open rear end gear.It has a power driver seat, power antenna,AM radio, door edge guards,a/c and tinted windows. It wears its original hubcaps.I have the original owners manual and the protect plate to verify. The body is very solid but it does have areas that will need attention, trunk ,rear window and driver side floor by where your left heel would rest. The rest of the body is solid and straight with the exception of the drivers door skin(one dent). The paint is oxidized and there is some surface rust in areas. Some people are paying big money to paint their cars to look like this patina. The interior needs a total re-do.The chrome and stainless is in very good condition. When I tried to turn the engine over it wouldn't budge. The old fellow that I purchased the car from drained the oil for some reason and it sat for a long while with no oil. This numbers matching engine (see picture)  was pulled and inspected and was able to be turned over. There is no major engine failure but it will need to be gone through(rebuilt) AND IS INCLUDED WITH THE CAR.I installed a 401 that I had that runs great, and topped it with the original intake set up.The gas tank and fuel system was gone through as well as the brakes, new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses and front shoes. The car runs drives and stops however it was just in my driveway, needs tires. This is a great restoration project. They are getting hard to find "all there".The ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING KX CODE block(with matching serial number) will go with the car and can be put in the trunk for transport. Please don't ask if this can drive to California,it will have to be transported. That being said this car could easily be driving around with little work.Title is clear in previous owners name.Any questions please ask.

Junkyard Gem: Heavily personalized 1997 Buick Skylark Custom Sedan

Wed, Mar 27 2019

Normally I wouldn't be much interested in a third-generation GM N-Body (a family that includes the Chevy Malibu and Olds Achieva) spotted in the junkyard, though a case could be made for such a vehicle's historical significance. This '97 Skylark, however, arrived in a Northern California self-service wrecking yard well-plastered with stickers, reflectors, and other personalizing touches, making it an interesting document of its time and place. It appears that both of the original white fenders got mashed and then replaced with blue ones, almost certainly obtained cheaply at a yard like this one. If you're not going to paint your new fenders to match the car, then you're already well down the slippery slope to making the car a giant mobile canvas to display your interests. A 20-year-old GM N-Body, regardless of how nice it was when new, isn't worth much, and you could stretch a line of these cars from Lansing to Lahore with all the used-up Ns sitting in American wrecking-yard inventory right now. Perhaps it was the grandchild of the car's original owner who indulged in White Widow cannabis and listened to Siouxsie & the Banshees. The odds against finding the original window sticker in a car like this are mighty long, but here it is. Sold new at Putnam Buick in Burlingame. It appears that this car spent most of its final decade in or near Mill Valley. Mill Valley is a mere 30 miles from Burlingame, or about three hours of Buick driving (you have to go past SFO, through San Francisco, and across the Golden Gate Bridge, a journey featuring apocalyptically terrible traffic at just about any time). Drive east across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and you'll get to this Skylark's final parking space, about 20 miles from Mill Valley. This car lived its whole life near the shores of San Francisco Bay, and it will die there. Feathers and a political-party charm adorn the headliner. This car's final owner had a practical side, as we can see from the many reflectors and lengths of safety tape. Just the thing for avoiding a T-bone wreck in the dead of night! "Essentially, Skylark embodies all of the features customers expect from a Buick, in a smaller package, with a very attractive MSRP."

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Buick Century Woodie station wagon

Mon, Oct 9 2017

The Detroit station wagon with fake-wood exterior paneling had a good long postwar run, but minivans and — increasingly — sport utility vehicles were giving such wagons quite a beating in the showrooms by 1992. Buick was down to just two woodies by 1992; here's a discarded example of the front-wheel-drive Century, spotted in a Northern California self-service yard. Buick sold big rear-wheel-drive Roadmaster wagons with Simu-Wood™ siding through the 1996 model year, but the smaller Century was fairly plush. American car shoppers didn't insist on real-looking "wood" on their wagons, although Chrysler went much more three-dimensional with their plastic wood that did GM during this era. This one has the 3.3-liter Buick V6 engine, rated at 160 horsepower. This is not to be confused with the unrelated GM 60° V6, which was available in earlier and later Centuries. If only these seats could talk, they'd tell many tales of sibling battles and spilled fast food. Related Video:

Junkyard Gem: 1990 Buick Reatta

Wed, Oct 4 2017

General Motors built some interesting sporty cars during the late 1980s and early 1990s, as the company attempted to claw back market share from European manufacturers of high-end two-doors. There was the mean-looking Oldsmobile Trofeo, the Turin-to-Hamtramck Cadillac Allante, and the gadget-packed Buick Reatta. Here's an example of the latter car, wearing Maui Blue paint and residing in a Denver self-service wrecking yard. There was a lot to like about the Reatta, but the powertrain came as a disappointment: the ancient, rough-running pushrod Buick 3.8-liter V6 engine, driving the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The 3800 engine made 165 horses in 1990, which wasn't bad for that year, but Reatta money would have bought you a new 1990 BMW 3-Series with a tuneful 168-horse DOHC straight-six. The Buick V6 was something of an Albanian grain-thresher motor compared to the engines in the Reatta's European rivals' cars: rugged but crude. The pre-1990 Reattas came with Buick's amazing touchscreen computer interface, which may have scared off the most conservative Buick traditionalists. This car had more typical-for-1990 controls. Only 6,388 Reatta coupes were made for 1990, so we're looking at one rare Buick here. Handcrafted by these artisans in Lansing.
