This is a beautiful example of a very well maintained survivor car.  The car has been garaged for almost its entire 51 years.  We found this car in the high deserts of Placitas, NM.  This car began its life as a special order for a police department in Arizona.  The police department ordered a Buick, a Chevy, and a Ford.  The purpose was to compare them, and decide which car to use for their fleet.  Thankfully, the Buick wasn't picked because of the gas mileage.  The police department auctioned the Buick off and a sweet lady bought it from them.  She had the car for 33 years, and took great care of it, but eventually she stopped driving it.  Her next door neighbor just received news that he had cancer.  His doctor wanted him to imagine his immune system cleansing away the cancer.  The doctor asked if he had anything that could use a good cleaning.  He remember this old Buick, that was parked under a tree at the time.  He went straight home, and bought the Buick for himself, and began cleaning.  He scrubbed and scrubbed, and imagined his immune system ridding the cancer from his body.  Eventually his cancer did go away, and we are blessed with a beautiful Buick LeSabre Survivor with an inspiring story.

This classic has the original paint with plenty of fading and patina, but it looks great!  I tried to get all the dings in the photos.  The interior is all original with the exception of the cheesy tape player.  The dash was not altered at all for the stereo.  It would be easy to return to stock.  The dash pad has cracks, and there are a couple of cuts in the rear seat on the side.  It's not that noticeable, but I don't want you to have any surprises.  The glass is all good EXCEPT the 2 little front seat windows are chipped and cracked, but holding together and operating just fine (they still operate in and out, just cosmetic).  The 401 NailHead just had a fresh tune up with all new distributor, wires, plugs, air filter, belts, hoses.  There is a small oil leak that appears to be coming from the rear main seal.  This is a rope seal, so pretty easy to shove in there.  This bad boy runs and drives great!  You can definitely smoke the tires with this motor.  It came from the factory with 325HP/410ft/lb.  This is a very very comfortable ride.  You can easily cruise the town or just commute in this car.  It would make a fun road trip car.  A little paint and a rope seal, and this baby would be worth some big bucks.  I think it's perfect the way it is though.

1962 Buick LeSabre
401 Nailhead (Wildcat 410) - (This was designated the Wildcat 410 because of the 410 ft.lb torque)
Excellent Tires and Original Wheels
Beautiful Original Interior (needs nothing to enjoy right now)
Heater Works Great.  Vents all work.
Speed Buzzer Works! (SOOOOOO COOL!!!  You set it on the speed you want it to buzz at, and it works!  I've got it on 100mph, and it works!  How cool is that?)
Fresh Tune Up (Smokes them tires!)
Laser Straight Body (Even the alignment is spot on!)
Easy Easy Driver!  Just put your arm around your woman and see what happens!

I can't stress enough how well this car runs!  This is a VERY LOW MILEAGE car for this age.  The heater works great!  The windows all roll up and down and out and in as designed.  The car is quiet at 70mph, and has lots of power left over.  Be careful in this car!  Very few vehicles will outrun you to about 50mph, then the newer sports cars get the weight and wind advantage.  I love spanking these kids in their rice burners with those gay wings.  Plus, I'm virtually guaranteed to get lucky with the wife when I fire up the old 6-2!  Try that in a Honda.

This is a great family cruiser.  It's ready for your family to cruise in right now.  You don't need to do anything or buy anything to enjoy this car.  I drive it as often as possible. Our kids LOVE IT!  My daughter is not happy I'm selling it.  I love the waves, and the attention!  I love telling the story to young people that think it's cool.  It's just one of those rare, cool cars.  LOTS OF ATTENTION!!!  Everybody, I mean everybody wants to talk about this baby.  She just looks good.  She really does.  She loves to run too!  You won't be disappointed!

I'm listing this on that other popular and free listing.  I might end this auction early.  Truth is, I could drive down to the gas station and start filling it up, and have it sold by the time it was full.  I can't remember a time I wasn't asked if it was for sell.  I LOVE THIS CAR!  I WON'T GIVE IT AWAY!  If you have legit issues or questions, then just call me.

I put all the pics it would allow, and I'm trying to get the video on it.  I can always email more pics or whatever.  I know y'all have lots of questions.  Happy Bidding!

Buick Encore takes a hit of Mokka to tackle Dakar

Wed, 03 Sep 2014

There are many vehicles we'd consider taking racing. Even on a cross-country rally as punishing as the Dakar. But a Buick Encore? That's not one that would enter our motorsports-based consciousness. Yet it's basically what General Motors is entering in the South American rally raid this year, and you're looking at it.
Unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show, this rally machine is based on (or at least billed as) an Opel Mokka - the name that GM's European brand applies to the vehicle Americans know as the Encore, Buick's subcompact crossover. Only it's obviously been extensively modified. It's got a ten-inch raised suspension, a 137-gallon fuel tank, carbon-fiber bodywork and... hold on, we're sure we're missing something here. Oh, right: a 6.2-liter V8 kicking out 340 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
In other words, this is not the same Encore (or Mokka) you can pick up at your local Buick, Opel or Vauxhall dealership. It's not even close. It's not even recognizable as such, really. It was unveiled alongside a more sedate Opel Mokka Moscow Edition and a slew of other local debuts for the Opel brand that you can read more about in the (translated and original) Russian press release below.

Watch this phantom Buick drive itself down the highway in a snow storm

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

Years ago, General Motors used Buick cars to test out the idea of a "smart highway" concept. More recently, GM has been talking up its award-winning Super Cruise semi-autonomous technology that will roll out with Cadillac and make its way to Buick. The LeSabre in the video above has nothing to do with any of that.
On Interstate 15 in Utah, a man driving this LeSabre got into an accident that rearranged the front end and set the horn on permanent blare. At the time of writing this, no one is sure what happened next, but the man ended up sitting in the snow in the highway median while his car carried on down the highway without him. Passing traffic stayed well to the right.
The 51-second video below provides a different take on our autonomous future. A local newscast on KUTV covered the story the evening of the incident, but the Utah Highway Patrol didn't have any update on the fate of the LeSabre. We'll take that to mean that Buick's take on Christine could still be out on the prowl... so watch out!

Buick working on Encore refresh

Tue, Jun 9 2015

It's been three years now since the model we know as the Buick Encore (sold overseas as the Vauxhall/Opel Mokka) first hit the scene. That makes it about due for a bit of a facelift, and judging from these latest spy shots, that's precisely what General Motors seems to be up to. The nose of this prototype (intriguingly wearing Buick badges but German plates) is all covered up, so it's hard to tell what Buick and its European counterparts have in store for the front-end restyling, but the fact that they've covered it so extensively tells us that somethings afoot. The tail should also get new lights and bumper as well. You can fully expect GM to take the opportunity to refresh the cabin while it's at it with tweaked ergonomics and new equipment. Meanwhile our sources tell us the 1.0-liter inline-three from the new Corsa could find its way under the Opel/Vauxhall's hood to join the current lineup of four-pots, but it's too early to say whether that engine might find its way across the pond to the Buick version as well.
