Buick Grand National Amazing Barn Find! on 2040-cars
Missouri City, Texas, United States
This is one of those rare once in a lifetime finds. It was picked it up
in North Texas. Heard through a friend that his boss had a completely
stock and unmolested Grand National that his dad bought for him brand
new from John Toole Buick of Dallas-Irving. It was used in the late 80's
as a college commuter (Tarrant County Junior College according to the
parking stickers). Not sure how many years it was used because the tags
expired 93/94. So I'm assuming '92-93 was the last year it was on the
road. It has 32,868 miles on the clock.
When I got the car into my possession, I spent a lot of time on cleaning it up and bringing the paint back to life. The interior took no effort at all, the interior on the car is almost like it came off the showroom floor. No spots on the seats, no stains on the carpet, no wear on the steering wheel and still has the protective clear plastic on the dash. The headliner was drooping so I replaced that, but otherwise it's completely original. And let me tell you, you really do feel like you hitched a ride with Marty in the Delorean on this one. It's like a time capsule. So well preserved! (was obviously stored indoors for the last 20+ years) The exterior took some time though, not gonna lie. That paint had 20+ years of dust on top of it. So I bet I washed the car 10 times in the process of buffing it out. It was 100% the original finish when I started, I do know that. There was one unfortunate blemish on the drivers rear quarter where apparently a ladder fell on it while it was being stored. I was going to have a paintless dent repair service straighten it out, but the paint where it happened was touched up so I decided to take it to Masters Auto Body who has an excellent reputation. So they fixed the quarter and blended it into the door. As well as installed new bumper fillers since the originals were deteriorated (common problem as you more than likely already know). Mechanically this thing literally drives like it's still 1987. 1000000% bone stock (which is the amazing part). It doesn't even have an aftermarket air filter. The original owner didn't seem too interested in the performance aspect of the car, so it literally has nothing "performance" done to it. Since the gas tank had been sitting for so long I replaced it with an OEM quality replacement, as well as a new sending unit, fuel pump, and fuel filter. Then I had the injectors professionally flushed and flow tested. Also put in a new set of plugs and wires, and wow, she fired up like a brand new car! Changed all the fluids, installed a new serpentine belt, new battery, and this car is ready to go wherever, whenever. Still has the original exhaust too and it's not rusted out!! The oil pan gasket does drip a little oil, but for a car that sat for 20+ years, suppose that's to be expected. I found some hidden treasures while cleaning it... The original window sticker was folded up in the glovebox. I went and had it laminated to preserve it. Also found the original temporary tag, warranty booklet, a Buick issued radio station directory (reminding us that Buick is awesome), GM maintenance schedule, and the owners manual. Oh and I have 2 sets of wheels for the car. I bought a spare set with new rubber, because I didn't want to remove the original tires from the original wheels... So one set is for show, one set is for go. Call, text, or email me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to see it. 713-499-0167 |

Buick lowering base prices on Regal, Verano
Wed, May 27 2015Buick might have two new options for buyers in the market for an inexpensive luxury sedan. In a move similar to the introduction of the LaCrosse 1SV base trim a few months ago, the brand is ready to offer cheaper, entry-level versions of the Regal and Verano. Like the LaCrosse 1SV, the Verano 1SV mostly cuts dealer margins to reduce the cost for customers. The small sedan is priced at $21,065, plus $925 destination, which is a significant $2,315 drop compared to the next higher trim. The powertrain is still a 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic, but buyers lose out on satellite radio. According to CarsDirect, dealers are making just $106 on this model, versus $935 on the higher grade. Meanwhile, the Regal 1SV charts a slightly different path to a lower price. The trim starts at $27,065, which is a $2,925 savings over the next trim. Buyers still get leather seats too, but the powertrain here is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder without eAssist that makes 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed automatic. That's a 77 hp deficit compared to the turbocharged Regal, and combined city/highway fuel economy dips to 23 miles per gallon combined, compared to 24 mpg with forced induction. Buick is introducing the 1SV models in hopes of grabbing more attention for the brand. "We added this new base level to some models as a means of expanding the opportunity for more customers to experience Buick vehicles. The addition of these trims will create an increased awareness and consideration of these vehicles when being compared to the competition," said company spokesperson Nick Richards to Autoblog. However, you might not see many of these inexpensive Buicks on the road. "On the Verano, we suspect dealers will opt to stay away from a car with around $100 between invoice and MSRP - that's the pattern we've been seeing on the LaCrosse 1SV, which is practically impossible to find," said CarsDirect Senior Pricing Analyst Alex Bernstein to Autoblog. Also, the Regal 1SV's switch to a less powerful, naturally aspirated engine "could be a turn-off for some shoppers," he said. Related Video:
Why Mazda did so well and Volvo so poorly in Consumer Reports survey
Thu, Oct 25 2018The poor performances of Tesla and all three domestic automakers got the headlines in Consumer Reports magazine's latest reliability survey, but there were other results that caught our interest. Tiny Mazda notched the biggest gain among the 29 brands included in this year's list, leap-frogging nine spots to No. 3. Buick, which was in the top 10 last year, fell 11 spots to No. 19, the biggest decline of any brand. And then there's Volvo, a brand often vaunted for its quality and reliability, dropping six spots to dead last. What gives? For starters, all three brands benefited or suffered in large part due to their relatively small portfolio of vehicles. So when raves or complaints rolled in for even one particular model, as was often the case, it weighed heavily on the entire brand. That's especially true when it involves a relatively high-volume, hot-selling model such as the Buick Enclave (more on that in a moment). Mazda fared as well as it did despite the CX-3 losing Consumer Reports' influential "recommended" status due to problems with its climate system, including leaks from the condenser and refrigerant unit that triggered a service bulletin from the automaker in late 2016. Deputy auto editor Jon Linkov said that scratch didn't hurt the overall brand, since the CX-9 crossover and MX-5 Miata both jumped up to replace it on CR's list of newly recommended vehicles, thanks to several back fixes Mazda made to both models. For Buick, the redesigned Enclave SUV earned a "Much Worse Than Average" rating after owners reported problems with the new nine-speed automatic transmission it shares with the Chevrolet Traverse as well as some issues with the climate system. There were issues with rough shifting, plus complaints about the torque converter that necessitated fixes to the computer or outright replacement. "Again, similar stuff that we saw with the Traverse: both first-year vehicles, similar powertrains," LInkov said. He said all-new vehicles or redesigns typically fare poorly in CR's reliability survey due to issues that are hard to suss out before vehicles go into everyday use by consumers. The top-selling Encore and Envision fared well, Linkov said, but were outdone by the Enclave's problematic transmission components. The Enclave was Buick's second best-selling model through September at 35,227 units. Then there is Volvo, about which there is one word to sum up its woes: infotainment.
Watch 14 hot rides take over concept car lawn at Pebble Beach
Sun, Aug 16 2015The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an annual celebration of the beautiful, old cars that grace Monterey Car Week. But Monterey – and Pebble – features lots of newer metal, too, and that includes the concept lawn at Pebble Beach. Now, "concept lawn" isn't a totally accurate name anymore, and you'll see why in the list below. This year especially, plenty of production cars can be found in the area once reserved for the conceptual. Still, we're happy to see them. Here's what's featured this year: Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Audi R8 BAC Mono Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R Buick Avenir Galpin-Fisker Rocket Speedster Hyundai HCD-16 Vision G Coupe Icona Volcano Infiniti Q60 Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 Maserati Ghibli McLaren 570S Rolls-Royce Wraith By our count, that's seven concepts out of fourteen cars. But it still makes for one hot group of metal. Check 'em out in the gallery above.
