1987 Buick Grand National on 2040-cars
Huntsville, Alabama, United States
I bought the car in December of 2004 from the original owner here in Alabama. AFAIK it has been garage kept its entire life. Exterior: Paint quality is in great condition with the occasional pits and scratches as one can expect on a black car with this amount of miles. I have replaced and repainted the front plastic fender fillers between the quarter panels and bumper. The rears while in good condition could stand to be replaced as the plastic has faded. Tires are BFG Radial ta’s with 235/60/15 front and 275/50/15 rears with 90% tread left. Interior: Mostly stock. I just recently replaced the headliner with a ABS unit from gbodyparts.com. I have added the following gauges. Scanmaster, boost gauge and caspers knock gauge on a dual A-pillar mount. The original owner cut out some plastic covers for the t-tops to keep the interior cool and prevent the sun from damaging the interior. I have also added the following trim pieces from www.buickgn.com: Turbo 6 full cover door pullstrap screw covers, Grand National Intercooled seat hinge overlays, Grand National Intercooled door sill plate, reproduction horn ring(to replace the cracked factory piece) along with a Grand National Intercooled horn button overlay. Chassis/Suspension:

Engine/underhood:

GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories
Wed, 06 Feb 2013As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.
Buick working on Encore refresh
Tue, Jun 9 2015It's been three years now since the model we know as the Buick Encore (sold overseas as the Vauxhall/Opel Mokka) first hit the scene. That makes it about due for a bit of a facelift, and judging from these latest spy shots, that's precisely what General Motors seems to be up to. The nose of this prototype (intriguingly wearing Buick badges but German plates) is all covered up, so it's hard to tell what Buick and its European counterparts have in store for the front-end restyling, but the fact that they've covered it so extensively tells us that somethings afoot. The tail should also get new lights and bumper as well. You can fully expect GM to take the opportunity to refresh the cabin while it's at it with tweaked ergonomics and new equipment. Meanwhile our sources tell us the 1.0-liter inline-three from the new Corsa could find its way under the Opel/Vauxhall's hood to join the current lineup of four-pots, but it's too early to say whether that engine might find its way across the pond to the Buick version as well.
Malaise Era Junkyard Gem: 1979 Buick Electra Limited
Wed, Jun 22 2016In the fall of 1973, the Arab members of OPEC shut off the oil taps, and Detroit got busy making many of their full-sized land yachts a lot smaller. By model year 1977, the downsized fifth-generation Buick Electra was ready to go ... just in time for the 1979 Iranian Revolution to squeeze the supply of the black stuff even further. You won't see many of the 1977-85 Electras these days, but I spotted this faded but solid '79 Limited sedan in a Denver self-service yard last week. General Motors must have bought up the entire world's supply of blue velour around this time, because you'll see this stuff in just about every car they made for the following decade or so. By this time, GM was doing a lot of mixing-and-matching with engines from its various divisions, which meant you could buy an Oldsmobile 88 with a Chevrolet 350 V8 engine, a Chevrolet Monza with a Buick 231 V6 engine, or— as in this case— a Buick Electra with an Oldsmobile 350 V8 engine. Do you want to know how many horses this engine delivered to this 3,631-pound car? 155 horsepower out of 5.7 liters of engine displacement. Times were tough during the Malaise Era.
