1986 Buick Grand National Fully Optioned, 2nd Owner, Fully Restored on 2040-cars
Fort Worth, Texas, United States
Up for sale is a very well restored 1986 Buick Grand National. I am the documented 2nd owner of this car and purchased from the original owner in 2010 out of Atlanta. Car was a very nice car and was kept very well. Car had 121k miles when purchased and well maintained and never modified or raced. The paint was standard for that era (crows feet and cracking everywhere), so that is where we started. Car was taken down to metal and repainted and it is a VERY nice, deep paint job. Very straight, no waves and panels align nicely. Car has less than 250 miles since restoration. PLEASE READ...Here we go:
Paint and Body - Taken down to metal and repainted base/clear. New body bushing installed at the same time and all the plastic was replaced with NOS parts (front air dams, 87 blacked out grill, headlight bezels, bumper strips, wheel housing trim, etc). All emblems were left off except for BUICK in front grill - I like the blacked out look on these cars. I do have emblems, so those go with the car. All new weatherstripping all the way around. I also have new 3.8 SFI Turbo emblems that go on the hood...again, I prefer the blacked out look. New hood pad with the GN Logo. New rubber bumpers on hood, fenders, and trunk deck as well as doors. New black lock cylinders on doors as well. On a scale of 1-10, the exterior of this car gets a 10 with ease! Interior - Dash is completely original and looks great! No tears, rips, or cracks. Kind of amazing. Headliner, door panels, door handles (pulls), carpet, floor mats, shifter handle, and seat covers all replaced with NOS parts! Interior looks and smells like new. Dynomat was used inside doors and under carpet as well as along sail panels and roof area. New door hinges, striker bolts and doors shut nice and solid - do not sag. All new door and window switches, dome light trim and bezel, etc and everything is functional. Stereo was replaced with a new Alpine with Bluetooth technology, satellite radio (HD) and electric antenna mounted to windshield. Speakers were replaced with high dollar Infinity all the way around (6x9s in rear) and it sounds nice. I do have the factory stereo and speakers as well. AC blows Cold and heat blows hot. All gauges work. I rate the interior a solid 9.5 out of 10. Wheels, Tires, Suspension, Steering, Brakes - Brake components (rotors, calipers, etc) are factory and work fine. I did convert the car to hydro boost to get rid of that horrible power master design. I still have the power master set up, just this one works better. Wheels are OER GNX wheels bought brand new ($1200 for set) and tires are Kumho - all new. Alignment is also fresh. Suspension and Steering is all factory stuff and work great. Factory wheels are here and come with the car as well. I rate this area a solid 9. Exhaust - 3" ceramic and heat barrier coated down pipe through 3" Full Throttle exhaust all the way out of the back. Exhaust manifolds are factory, but also ceramic coated with heat barrier. Sounds great and runs even better. I rate the exhaust a solid 10. Drive train - Car was fully optioned, so it has 342 ratio rear end and it is stock posi. Engine was built by professional builder for these cars, balanced, forged internals, roller billet cam and lifter set with matching timing chain and valve springs, roller rockers, port matched heads and intake, upper intake ceramic coated with heat barrier and upper powder coated black, all powder coated brackets, HUGE front mount inter cooler (I have stock one), slightly larger turbo (have stock one), matched injectors, turbo intake pipes are all ceramic coated with heat barrier, all new sensors, relays, switches, ignition module, coil, radiator is a 4 row aluminum design with huge dual fans ($1200 set up), valve covers were a very nice choice with baffled breathers that work well. Transmission was built nicely by professional that specializes in 200R4 designs for these cars. Shifts nice and shift. A lock up style converter was used matched to the turbo. I rate this a solid 9.5. Overall, car is super clean and fun to drive. I built to be a daily driver if needed, but lately it has been a car show cruiser. All modifications were slight and all original parts are here as well and come with the car. Will consider trades of equal value, specifically 1970-72 Chevelle/Malibu, 65-70 Mustang, 68-72 Camaro. |

Third 1987 Buick Regal GNX will be auctioned in January
Mon, Nov 13 2017A member of the 1987 Buick press fleet is hitting the auction block next year and it's a rarified gem: a low-mileage Regal Grand National GNX, serial No. 003 and one of just 547 models built for that year, and the last of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive Grand Nationals. It'll be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January. The GNX No. 003 was loaned out to publications including Autoweek, Motor Trend and Road & Track, where it racked up around 8,200 miles. "Through it all, a constant sad undertone was the understanding that 1987 was to be the final appearance of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive G-body (which also underpinned the best-selling Chevy Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix and Olds Cutlass)," reads a the description published on Barrett-Jackson's website. "A totally redesigned W-body Somerset Regal, with front-wheel drive and unitized body construction, was slated to replace the popular midsize Buick in 1988." So Buick opted to make "a Grand National to end all Grand Nationals" with the '87 GNX, partnering with ASC/McLaren to equip them with wheel lip flares, fender vents, 16-by-8-inch BBS rims and more aggressive tires. It left untouched the Grand National's standard Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection 3.8-liter V6 but added a larger Garrett T-3 turbocharger with a ceramic impeller, a larger intercooler, more aggressive fuel, spark and waste gate tables, and a dual exhaust system that boosted output from 235 horsepower and 330 foot-pounds of torque to 276 hp and 360 lb-ft. That was enough, Barrett-Jackson reports, to make the performance coupe quicker and faster in quarter-mile tests than the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 930 Turbo. After making the test-drive rounds in the automotive media, the car sold in 1988 as a brass hat/company official car to Fischer Buick in Troy, Mich. with approximately 8,200 miles on it. From there, it quickly sold to a local resident who drove it very little, and sold it in the spring of 1989. Since 1992, it has reportedly been kept in climate-controlled storage, totally original, unmodified and undamaged, with just 10,790 miles on the odometer today. It recently underwent a complete mechanical service and cosmetic reconditioning. You can check out the listing on Barrett-Jackson here. The first '87 GNX ever produced resides in the General Motors Heritage Collection and No. 002 is at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Mich. Interestingly, another '87 GNX, No.
Opel readying Adam model with SUV cues
Fri, 11 Oct 2013The Opel Adam, the microcar of General Motors' European subsidiary, has seen its sales cool significantly since it first hit the market in the United Kingdom and Europe, but a push is reportedly under way that just might be enough to get the stylish, little car moving again.
Using the Opel Adam Rocks Concept as a template, Opel will ruggedize the Adam, so that it might compete with the growing herd of city cars that sport SUV styling, like the Volkswagen Cross Up and Fiat Panda 4x4, according to a report from Automotive News Europe. Sporting a bumped-up ride height and tougher body work, it's a dedicated soft-roader, but will freshen the Adam's lineup and, hopefully, broaden its customer appeal.
The Adam Rocks, according to IHS Automotive analyst Ian Fletcher, should also make some more coin for GM's struggling European arm. "Automakers are happy to meet demand for SUV and crossovers as the customer pays a premium," Fletcher told ANE. And although the Rocks might have been planned from the start as a production vehicle, the timing, with the Adam's sales slowdown, doesn't seem like a coincidence.
GM's MPG overstatement could affect 2 million vehicles
Tue, May 17 2016Late last week, GM admitted that three of its large SUVs fuel economy window stickers did not match their actual efficiency ratings, and so the vehicles couldn't be sold. The stickers on the 2016 Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave said their ratings were one to two miles per gallon better than they should have been. Officially, the number of affected vehicles sits at about 60,000. But Consumer Reports makes a good point: what's up with all of the previous model year SUVs that are basically the same vehicle? To wit: the 2016 model year vehicles are not substantially different than the 2015 or the 2014, or even going all the way back to 2007. On the EPA's fuel economy website, all of these older models will "have better stated fuel economy numbers than the new vehicles in GM's dealerships," Consumer Reports noted. CR's best point, and the one that makes the 60,000 number potentially grow to 2 million if all of the vehicles built on this platform are affected, is that "[i]t seems unlikely that the company would change the powertrain on these carryover models so late in their model cycles in a way that would cause a dramatic, negative impact on fuel economy." GM says that earlier model year SUVs are not affected and the EPA did not respond to CR's question about the potential for more discrepancies. We've seen automakers reverse course before, so if GM has to come out with a mea culpa soon, don't be surprised. GM is rushing corrected stickers to dealers so that the SUVs can be sold again, but a fix for the already-sold vehicles could be trickier to solve.
