1941 Buick Special

36,886 Original Miles From New!

This is an outstanding example of a 1941 Buick Special. The car is black with tan interior and has only traveled 36,886 miles over the last 71 years.  This car is a 100% totally unrestored original car.  This Buick was built in Linden, NJ in November of 1940 and sold new at Capitol Buick in Albany, New York on June 10, 1941.  The original owner of the car was Patricia Dickinson.  I have the original Owner Service Policy and the original Owner Identification Card.  Also, I have about 8 original oil change stickers from the car.  This car is an absolute time capsule.  Everything about this car is totally original.  The car is equipped with the Dynaflash Fireball straight 8 motor, and a three speed manual transmission on the column.  The engine of the car is very nice and clean.  The Buick runs and drives 100%.  The car shifts very smooth and starts up every time you want it to.  I have owned lots of antique cars and this is probably the smoothest running, nicest riding 40's car I've ever had.  The headlights, tail lights, parking lights and turn signals all work as they should.  All of the gauges work properly.  The car is also equipped with the rear seat air deflectors.  The only thing not working on the car is the radio.  The car has brand new wide white wall tires.  The interior of the car is in EXCELLENT condition.  There are no rips or tears in the seat, carpet, headliner, or door panels.  The dash and all the fixtures are in amazing shape.  All of the wood trim is like new.  All of the glass in the car is in great shape with no cracks or breaks.  A few pieces of glass are starting to show signs of delamination, but nothing major.  The exterior of the car is in great shape for what it is.  I feel like if your looking at this car and interested in buying it is important to understand what it is.  This is NOT a totally restored car.  It is a 71 year old car with original paint and chrome.  The paint is very nice and glossy.  There are however, some chips and scratches.  Nothing is major, but they are there.  There are also a few areas of spider web cracking on the paint.  The chrome is all in great shape and shines really nicely.  There are a few areas of minor pitting on some different trim pieces.  This is a great car.  Bid with confidence.  If you buy this car and feel like I didn't describe it accurately and you don't want it no problem no hard feelings.  I'll gladly hold on to it.  The miles are listed on the clear PA title, and the odometer works as it should. I have tons of pictures of this car so if you need any additional pictures please feel free to ask.

My dad and I have been PA car dealers since 1989.  We have an antique car business as a HOBBY, and this is not our full time job.  We do it because it’s fun for us.  I try to be as honest and accurate as I can when describing a car.  I would rather a customer buy a car from me and it is nicer than they were expecting then vice versa.  I try to include a variety of different pictures as well.  If you’d like additional pictures of a specific area or any type of information please feel free to ask, and I will do my best to accommodate you.  I will accept cash, certified bank check or wire transfer ONLY.  Please understand that this is a 71 year old car with original 71 year old paint.  It is NOT perfect.  I would rate as an excellent survivor, and an excellent candidate for the new survivor judging or any HPOF judging in AACA.  Please feel free to contact me with any question (724) 771-5170.  Thank you.

As GM readies Alexa convenience for vehicles, we ponder its dark side

Thu, Dec 19 2019

SEATTLE — On the 30th floor of AmazonÂ’s glass tower, in a room with a breathtaking view of downtown Seattle, thereÂ’s a beautiful bed that nobody sleeps in. ItÂ’s near a kitchen nobody cooks in, a living room couch that no one crashes on, a kitchen table that doesnÂ’t host any family meetings. ItÂ’s AmazonÂ’s Smart Home Lab, a place where every Alexa-enabled gizmo the company or its partners can produce is crammed into the same space, ostensibly for Amazon to test. The company invited us there to show us the companyÂ’s vision for consumer products to leverage AlexaÂ’s voice interaction software before taking us down to a demo of its latest implementation in a Buick Encore GX. In this eerie simulacrum of a fantastic luxury apartment, however, nothing went right the first time. ItÂ’s a challenging environment for Alexa to work correctly, our hosts noted, pointing to the fact that there were six wifi networks available for the devices to connect to. In a normal home, one wifi network controls all the devices, who can theoretically sort out for themselves which one youÂ’re actually trying to activate. In the Smart Home Lab, any unmuted Alexa device thinks itÂ’s in charge. Even so, the connected toaster wouldnÂ’t connect. The Fire TV Cube wouldnÂ’t play a song. Our handlers futzed with everything, muting and unmuting devices, repeating commands, making us feel better about our own struggles with similar technologies. If it doesnÂ’t work right at Amazon HQ, maybe itÂ’s not just us! ItÂ’s telling that down on the faux lawn, in between the gleaming Amazon spheres that host a billionaireÂ’s tropical garden and the Day 1 building that the Smart Home Lab resides in, the BuickÂ’s Alexa implementation doesnÂ’t use a “wake-word” at all. The familiar Push to Talk button on the steering wheel, which normally activates General MotorÂ’s own proprietary voice command system, can be set to default to Alexa when that rolls out to GM vehicles in the first half of 2020 via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Given the reluctance of Alexa to respond to its wake-word in the comfort of AmazonÂ’s own lab, we hoped that this was by design. Drivers are already familiar with Push to Talk, and a physical button is more reliable than the vagaries of contemporary voice recognition – not to mention the privacy and accuracy issues involved with always-on mics. Our experience with the not-ready-for-primetime Mercedes-Benz MBUX system is illustrative.

Cadillac and Buick boost GM's return to growth in China

Mon, Oct 12 2020

BEIJING — General Motors on Monday said continued market recovery from the COVID-19 crisis helped its China vehicle sales grow 12% on year in July-September, marking the Detroit automaker's first Chinese quarterly sales growth in two years. The second-biggest foreign automaker in China by units — after Germany's Volkswagen AG — said on Monday it had delivered 771,400 vehicles in China in the third quarter. That followed a 5% fall in the second quarter, when parts of China were still emerging from virus-busting lockdown measures. GM has a Shanghai-based joint venture with SAIC making Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles. It has another venture, SGMW, with SAIC and Guangxi Automobile Group, producing no-frills minivans and which has started manufacturing higher-end cars. Sales rose 26% for cars under its mass-market Buick brand in the third quarter versus the same period a year earlier, while those of premium brand Cadillac jumped 28%, GM said in a statement. Sales of its mass-market Chevrolet marque fell 20%. Sales of no-frills brand Wuling grew 26%, whereas those of mass-market Baojun vehicles tumbled 19%. "GM's compact models returned to four-cylinder engines and that helped sales growth," said LMC Automotive senior analyst Alan Kang, referring to an attempt to market cleaner but noisier three-cylinder versions. "Cadillac also has a more complete lineup this year." China's biggest automakers' association expects overall car sales to grow by double digits in July-September versus a year earlier. Makers such as Toyota, Honda and Geely saw sales jump in the just-finished quarter. GM has seen its China sales suffer in a crowded market and slowing economy. To revive its fortunes, it plans to have electric vehicles (EVs) make up over 40% of new models in the next five years in China, where the government promotes greener cars. The automaker's Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV, a micro two-door EV with a starting price of 28,800 yuan ($4,200), was China's biggest-selling EV in August. GM's sales fell 15% in 2019 from a year earlier to 3.09 million vehicles. The automaker delivered 3.65 million vehicles in 2018 and 4.04 million in 2017. Related Video:

Buick version of Equinox/Terrain CUV spied testing... with autonomous gear?

Wed, 12 Jun 2013

Let's get the most pressing bits of this story out of the way right off the bat: What we see here appears to be a new compact crossover from Buick. According to the spy photographer, this machine may be a little bit smaller on the outside than the current Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain 'utes, which makes sense since recent rumors suggest GM's small crossovers will migrate to a new platform that will mark a convergence between the automaker's Delta (Chevy Cruze, Buick Verano) and Theta (Equinox, Terrain) platforms. This Buick would likely use this new D2UX platform.
We've been expecting Buick to unleash a crossover to slot between the very small Encore and the very large Enclave, and various rumors have indicated that the model may be known as either the Anthem or Envision. It's worth mentioning that Buick had planned, back in 2009, to release a vehicle in the compact CUV market, but abandoned those plans after a particularly poor reception.
And now for something completely different... Take another look at the spy shots above, and pay special attention to the cylindrical device mounted to the vehicle's roof. We can't say for sure what it is, but our spy photographer opines that it looks quite a bit like the 360-degree Lidar camera equipment used by Google for its autonomous cars. Is General Motors working with Google on autonomous car technology? We don't know, but you can definitely consider us intrigued.
