1939 Buick Special in unreal original condition.  Paint, interior, stainless, running gear, and all else is original to this Buick.  Runs great, windows roll up and down and work perfectly are tight and are clear (all rubber and felt in great shape), wipers work, all lights (dash, dome light, headlights, tail lights, park lights and even trun signals)  work great!  All gauges work as well.  , Horn is ver loud!!!  This Buick has an added electric fuel pump (makes starting after it sits for a while much easier).  Also, an electric cooling fan was added in front of the radiator to assure she never runs hot.  I have driven the Buick on 90 degree plus days and it runs cool!  At approximately 40,000 miles the following work was done to the Buick:

Removed the front suspension and had the front shocks rebuilt, installed new upper and lower control bushings, rebuilt the brakes, new wheel cylinders, brake hoses, steel lines where needed, replaced the front wheel bearings and seals, and replaced the rear shocks and links.

Removed the transmission and installed new sychronizers, replaced the input shaft and front bearing,, Replaced the u-joint and torque-ball. While the rear axle was out, installed 3:90 to 1 ratio gear set.  Also had the speedometer recalibrated and cleaned not altering the mileage.  Also replaced the rear wheel bearings and seals.

Rebuilt the engine, installed new rings, had the head rebuilt with hardened valve seats, flushed the block, re-cored the radiator, installed new hoses,, and rebuilt the carb.

Installed a new exhaust system.  Removed the fuel tank had it cleaned and had the neck re-soldered.

Had the steering wheel recast, replaced the glovebox, and the radio was rebuilt (it comes on and lights up, but I haven't gotten sound not sure why).

Replated the bumpers and over-riders.

There is only about 17,000 miles on the car since all of this work was done!!

The Buick does have a small exhaust leak when started cold but seems to go away after it gets warmed up.  Might be an exhaust manifold gasket, I haven't checked it out.

The brakes work great, although after sitting for a longer period of time the right front grabs for the first couple of stops but is fine after that.

This Buick drives very nice and always starts great with the original pedal starter.  But since the paint is 74 years old, there are some thin spots and scratches as can be expected.  It still looks and shines surprisingly well. The interior is very nice and usable, but being original has a few small wear areas (no holes) one being on the drivers bottom cushion.  Including original owners manual, other books, and some parts (ignition, wheel cylinder parts, fan belt, bulbs etc)..Any questions please email or call 660-623-0511 and I will be happy to answer them.  Thanks for looking!!!

just thought I'd better add that the picture of the box is one of the seat belts that were installed by previous owner.  They can easily be reinstalled.  Thanks.

Just wanted to add that with the rear-end ratio change the Buick runs nicely at 65 mph,.The closk also is not working.  The Buick has no rust holes or surface rust as I hope can be seen in the pics. Thanks. Ron

GM veteran Bryan Nesbitt tapped to head Buick design

Sat, Jun 6 2015

General Motors styling veteran Bryan Nesbitt (pictured above) took over a new role on Monday as executive director of global Buick design and global architectures. Andrew Smith, who previously did that job and also coordinated the look for Cadillac, has remained in charge of the pen at Caddy with this shift. Nesbitt rose to prominence when he designed the Chrysler PT Cruiser, according to Automotive News. He joined GM in 2001 and has been there ever since in multiple high-level roles. In 2007, he was appointed vice president of design for North America and was later briefly general manager of Cadillac in 2009-2010. Nesbitt took over as the vice president of GM's international operations design in China in 2011. This shuffle also moves Ken Parkinson, currently styling boss for Chevrolet trucks, to China as design vice president there. In addition, John Cafaro becomes the person in charge of the look for Chevy globally, rather than previously splitting that role between cars and trucks with Parkinson. GM Global Design Leadership Changes – effective June 1, 2015. Bryan Nesbitt, Design Vice President, GM China will repatriate to North America and assume the position of Executive Director, Global Buick and Global Architectures. He will be located in Warren, MI. Bryan will be the design Champion for Buick in the US and China. Ken Parkinson, Executive Director, Global Chevrolet Trucks and Global Architecture will assume the position of Design Vice President, GM China. He will be based in Shanghai, China. Andrew Smith, Executive Director, Global Cadillac and Buick Design will assume the position of Executive Director, Global Cadillac. He will continue to be the design Champion for the Cadillac brand. In addition, he will continue to lead the Global Color & Trim team. He will be based in Warren, Michigan. John Cafaro, Executive Director, Global Chevrolet Cars will assume the position of Executive Director, Global Chevrolet. He will be the design Champion for Chevrolet. In addition, John will lead the exterior components and accessories team. He will continue to be based in Warren, MI. The roles and responsibilities of Helen Emsley, Mark Adams, Carlos Barba, Clay Dean, Michael Simcoe, and Teckla Rhoades remain the same. MotorWeek remembers the nearly forgotten Buick Reatta

Thu, Feb 18 2016

The Reatta was Buick's failed experiment to take on European competitors with its own two-seat luxury coupe and convertible. The model only lasted a few years, and US customers didn't see another droptop from the brand until the Cascada. The latest MotorWeek Retro Review takes a look back at the short-lived roadster and remembers it quite fondly. Host John Davis calls the 1990 Reatta droptop "one of the best looking convertibles ever." His sentiment seems a little hyperbolic, but the roadster is definitely an attractive machine by the standards of the time. The smooth front end and pop-up headlights are reminiscent of Japanese sports cars of era, and the profile with the top down is elegant. There are weaknesses, though. The manual roof mechanism appears cumbersome to operate, and the crude digital instruments, which simulate physical dials, make the cabin look too dated. Other than a complaint about over-boosted power steering, MotorWeek enjoys how the Reatta drives, too. Buick's roadster is largely forgotten today, but such glowing praise suggests it deserves to be better remembered. Check out this Retro Review to look back on this interesting experiment from the early '90s. Related Video:

Trump prods General Motors over its auto plants in China

Sat, Aug 31 2019

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump, who is engaged in a trade war with Beijing, said on Friday that the largest U.S. automaker, General Motors, should begin moving its operations back to the United States. "General Motors, which was once the Giant of Detroit, is now one of the smallest auto manufacturers there. They moved major plants to China, BEFORE I CAME INTO OFFICE. This was done despite the saving help given them by the USA. Now they should start moving back to America again?" Trump said in a post on Twitter. Trump appeared to be referring to a Bloomberg News story that reported GM's hourly workforce of 46,000 U.S. workers has fallen behind that of Fiat Chrysler as the smallest of the Detroit Three automakers. Over the past four decades, GM has dramatically cut the size of its overall U.S. workforce, which numbered nearly 620,000 in 1979. GM did not directly comment on Trump's tweet. "GMÂ’s China operations are not a threat to U.S. jobs," the company said in a fact sheet, noting that its joint ventures have sent $16 billion in equity income to GM since 2010 and that it has invested $23 billion in U.S. operations since 2009. GM's U.S. hourly workforce has fallen by about 4,000 jobs since the end of 2018 to about where it was a decade ago. Trump's ire with GM comes as contract talks with the United Auto Workers union with the Detroit Three automakers intensify ahead of a Sept. 14 deadline. Trump has previously attacked GM for building vehicles in Mexico and for ending production at plants in Michigan, Ohio and Maryland and threatened to cut GM subsidies in retaliation. GM's decision to close four plants in the United States is a central issue in the contract talks. Trump has made boosting auto jobs a key priority and has often attacked automakers on Twitter for not doing enough to boost U.S. employment. His 2020 re-election bid will hinge on holding key industrial battleground states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan that narrowly voted for him in 2016. China is the worldÂ’s largest auto market, and government policy favors automakers assembling vehicles there, and not importing them from overseas. In response to TrumpÂ’s latest tariffs, China said last week it will reinstitute 25% tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles. The U.S. is imposing 15% tariffs on more than $125 billion in Chinese goods starting Sunday. GM sold 3.6 million vehicles in China last year accounting for 43% of its worldwide sales.
