GM issues stop-sale for 3 SUVs over incorrect MPG rating

This week, GM sent a memo to Chevy, GMC, and Buick dealers to tell them to stop selling three SUVS. The 2016 Chevy Traverse, the GMC Acadia, and the Buick Enclave all have EPA window stickers that show higher fuel economy ratings than the vehicles actually have. Unlike other recent – and very public – fuel economy ratings problems from VW and Mitsubishi, it doesn't seem like GM did anything wrong with the testing for these vehicles, it just misprinted the labels. New labels are being printed and should arrive at dealerships this weekend and early next week. After that, the SUVs will be able to be sold and delivered again. The official fuel economy rating for the three SUVs are all the same. The correct numbers for the all-wheel drive versions are 17 miles per gallon combined, 15 city, and 22 highway. The stickers say the SUVs get 17/24/19. The front-wheel driver models were also incorrectly labeled, and the total number of affected vehicles is 59,823. In the memo, GM said the problem was caused by an "inadvertent error," Automotive News says. GM is working with the EPA to solve the issue. Buick Avista concept is 'buildable', but not a priority

Buick could build the striking Avista concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, though it's not a top priority, the brand's top executive said Tuesday in New York. "The reaction's been so great, we'll try to run the numbers and see if there's a business case," said Duncan Aldred, Buick vice president of sales, service, and marketing. Buick will show the Avista in red this week at the New York Auto Show as a followup to its Detroit debut. Buick actually built two prototypes, which are being used to promote the brand's performance potential at auto shows around the world this year. "It's very buildable," Aldred told reporters after the reveal of the reveal of the 2017 Encore small crossover before the New York Auto Show. "Ultimately, it comes down to priorities." He added, "We'd love to do it. We could do it, but [there's] lots of things we'd love to do... Nothing to confirm or deny." The Avista concept suggests a sports car with a twin-turbo V6 with 400 horsepower put to the rear wheels. The two-door followed another impressive Buick concept, the Avenir, which was four-door styling exercise from the 2015 Detroit show. Though the Avista remains on the minds of enthusiasts – helped in part by Buick – the priorities for the brand are crossovers. The Avista offers style, but the freshened Encore is the substance for Buick in New York, which along with the Envision, launches this year into the red-hot utility segment. The new Cascada convertible and redesigned LaCrosse also are joining Buick's lineup this year. While the Avista is doable, the brand clearly has other priorities ahead of it. Related Video:

We're not sure which make or model you'd most readily associate with yoga. You'd probably see a fair few Mercedes convertibles, VW Beetles, and assorted minivans and crossovers outside your typical American yoga studio. But not to be left out of the contorting action, Buick is out to link itself to the age-old practice with these latest videos. They feature, as you can see, the ever lithe and supple Bar Rafaeli, clad in spandex, stretching and contorting herself inside and out of a Buick Verano. Which is really all you should need to know, but there's a little more to the clip above (and the behind-the-scenes video below) than eye candy. Choreographed by yoga guru Chad Dennis, the idea behind the video – cleverly entitled The Body Shop – is to show drivers, in as artful and visually pleasing a way as possible, how to limber up their body, mind, and soul in preparation for (or recovery from) a long drive. It also serves to promote the brand's new 24 Hours of Happiness test drive program that lets prospective buyers take a Buick home and try it out for a day before buying. And if nothing else, it aptly demonstrates that Buick has excellent taste – or at least as good as Sports Illustrated that gave the Israeli model her first big break, Leonardo DiCaprio whom she dates for several years, and the dozens of fashion labels, jewelry brands, and magazines for which she's posed in recent years.
