Bmw Z3 2.8 L Liter Manual Stick Shift Transmission Convertible 90,000 Miles! on 2040-cars
United States
This is a beautiful 1998 BMW Z3 with only 90,256 miles! It's always been garaged & looks & runs great! It's in great shape & ready to drive from LA to NYC! I believe in providing as much information as possible to save everyone time. The Good! 1) It has clean & clear California title (Certificate of Ownership) in my name. 2) I also have a CarFax in hand & have attached it below. CarFax is indicating it's worth $1,770 above retail Blue Book! 3) Passed smog within last 90 days so smog not required if sold by end of August. 4) Car runs great! It's a big 2.8L, 189 Horsepower, 6 cylinder engine! 5) It has a 5-speed manual transmission & power convertible top! 6) Tires are in great shape with a lot of miles left. 7) It has a mesh screen between the seats to keep backdraft out. 8) I have a brand new, OEM BMW top for it with the built-in rear window. 9) Handling is awesome! I wonder what the Power to Weight ratio is on this car because it handles so well! The Not So Good! 1) The plastic rear window is missing. The window stitching came out & eventually the entire plastic rear window simply fell out. Therefore I got a new BMW top for it. (see #8 above) However since the roof is in such good shape I would first think of having an upholstery shop stitch in a new rear window & save the new roof/window for later 2) The radio antenna is broken so radio reception is poor. 3) The 3rd brake light fell off & is inside the trunk but works. The bezel didn't break off & is still on on the trunk lid. Only the LED light bar on the inside of the trunk fell off. 4) The passenger door requires a push/pull to open. Not a big issue but requires to lift the handle, push in & then pull out to open. 5) There are 2 driving lights located below the bumper. The drivers' side isn't working. I'm not sure if it's wiring or the bulb. 6) Time for an oil change I've researched all recently sold Z3's on ebay (actual sold prices, no listed) & have priced this car reserve well below those. I want it sold, not relisted. Questons? I check e-mail daily before/after work. Need additional pix of something? Let me know! Shipping? Nope, I'm not shipping her anywhere. But, if you fly into LAX I'll pick you up! Thank you! On Aug-02-14 at 08:05:29 PDT, seller added the following information:

Toyota-BMW sports car to gain all-wheel drive, supercapacitors?
Mon, 24 Mar 2014Sales of salt are skyrocketing following the latest rumor of the planned joint-venture sports car from Toyota and BMW. The whisperings indicate that project will spawn both a replacement for the BMW Z4 and a long-awaited Toyota Supra successor based on the FT-1 Concept shown above. Word is that the new cars will feature front-engine, all-wheel-drive layouts with plug-in hybrid technology. This news would appear to run somewhat counter to earlier reports that BMW and Toyota are teaming for a six-figure hybrid supercar.
According to Autocar, the project will benefit from the experience Toyota gained with the TS030, its hybridized Le Mans prototype. The evidence for this is, of all things, a Toyota Yaris - in particular, the Yaris Hybrid R that was shown at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show last September. That car used a 300-horsepower, 1.6-liter gas engine, while a pair of 60-horsepower electric motors provided all-wheel-drive push (an additional motor also sent additional juice to the front axle). The 414-system-horsepower drivetrain used supercapacitors in place of the traditional lithium-ion batteries of traditional hybrids.
For the production sports cars, Autocar claims that the Yaris Hybrid R's setup will serve as the basis for the new powertrain, although it won't be a direct carryover. Instead, a 2.0-liter BMW engine will be paired with Toyota-designed, BMW-built motors.
Consumer Reports' first motorcycle reliability report finds Japanese brands ahead
Sat, 22 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has released its first ever study of motorcycle reliability, and students of its ratings on cars might notice a suspicious similarity - Japanese brands require fewer repairs than the leading American or German brands.
The study analyzed the reliability of 4,680 bikes owned by CR subscribers and found that Yamaha had the best ratings, with just one in ten bikes built between 2009 and 2012 requiring a repair over a four-year period. The makers of the R1 and R6 sport bikes were closely followed by Kawasaki and Honda, while one out of every four of the rumbling bikes from Harley-Davidson experienced an issue. BMW had the worst rating of the brands represented, with one in three bikes having problems.
According to CR, neither Suzuki nor Triumph owners provided enough information for a reliable rating. Based on the responses received, though, Suzuki would have finished with the other Japanese brands and Triumph, being English, would have been one of the less reliable makes.
Reverse-engineering i3 shows BMW profits after 20,000 sales
Tue, Jan 6 2015"This is, without a question of a doubt, the most advanced vehicle on the planet. It's as revolutionary as the Model T was when it came out." That is exceptionally high praise, and it's not even being heaped on one of the million-dollar hybrid hypercars from Ferrari or McLaren. It's not even being attributed to a particularly zealous Tesla fan. Nope, it's coming from a mustachioed man in suburban Detroit, and he's discussing a $42,400 BMW hatchback with Forbes. Of course, said hatchback is the revolutionary i3, and Sandy Munro's statements carry some degree of authority, as his company is tearing apart and analyzing every little nut, washer and bolt on the four-seat EV. Munro's eponymous company performs reverse-engineering analysis, meaning they rip apart brand new cars and sell the information to the world's automakers, saving OEM's both time and money. The most interesting thing it has discovered thus far? That even with the high costs of two of the i3's most important elements – carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic and lithium-ion batteries – his company's analysis shows that BMW need only sell about 20,000 units a year to turn a profit, Forbes reports. While Munro's company is often contracted by automakers, he's gone it alone on the i3 project, dropping about $1 million into in-depth analysis. That's a lot of money, but the company should be able to turn around and sell its findings for about $500,000, with a batch of Chinese automakers already queued up and ready to buy. Analysis of individual i3 components will also be available from a sort of a la carte menu. To see what it is about the i3 that has Munro speaking so highly of it, head over to the Forbes website and check out the feature article and video on the reverse-engineering process.
