General History

Thank you for looking at our X5.  First, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a dealer and have been for 28 years. This however is one of my personal vehicles so I am not selling it through the dealerships. I bought this vehicle directly from the BMW factory auction of executive demos in 2011 for my wife.  The vehicle is owned by her personally and has been carefully driven and maintained.  No kids. No smoking. It has been regularly detailed by my staff and properly serviced locally at Tom Bush BMW of Orange Park. It had front brakes with a full brake fluid flush November2012 and rear brakes less than 180 days ago with an oil/filter service.  The tires are matching Michelins. The rears were replaced about 6 months ago with maybe 6000 miles on them. The fronts are brand new with less than 500 miles. We have enjoyed 46,000 trouble free miles during our 32 months of ownership. We had a battery failure in May 2012.  BMW replaced the battery with the correct factory replacement.  BMW also replaced the alternator in July 2013.  These vehicles are prone to have rear air suspension leak. Last November we noticed the RR sagging a little. A soap bubble test revealed a couple of pin hole leaks and both rear airbags were replaced with factory units by BMW. I am aware of no mechanical issues.  The vehicle is being driven daily and will be delivered to its new owner, fully serviced by BMW, with a fresh professional detail. All books, keys and Nav CDs are with the vehicle.

The Options

After my wife settled on space grey metallic with the black Napa leather, I carefully looked for the best equipped version available.  For those of you who prefer to see the factory codes I have listed the ones I know off the top of my head at the bottom. This X5 has the 350hp 4.8 liter V8 mated to a six speed steptronic transmission.  In addition to normal automatic shifting the steptronic allows sequential manual shifting. It is has the sport package with adaptive drive (suspension) and active steering upgrades that dramatically improve the handling and ride.  It also has the further upgraded 20” wheels and tires, active headlights and upgraded exterior trim, which includes the roof rack and aluminum running boards.  The extra large panoramic moon roof extends over the rear passenger. On the inside you will find the premium package plus the 8 passenger seating upgrade and the very hard to find 20 way contour front seating option on both front seats with dual memory and heat. The trim is dark burl walnut.  On long trips you can keep your snacks cool in the cooled center console.  It has navigation and the premium sound package with full Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, USB input, I phone/IPod connectivity, and a CD player.  You can download your music library to a thumb drive and plug it in giving you the option to select and play your favorite play lists using the idrive knob, or you can stream Pandora on your phone from in your pocket or purse, or listen to satellite or normal radio. Whichever you choose it will all play back through the 16 speaker, 600 watt stereo.  Additional conveniences are hands free calling from your easily stored contact list, trip computer, extensive vehicle monitoring system.  It has retractable side window shades and child locks.  It has the technology package with rear camera and collision avoidance radar. The comfort access option provides keyless entry and locking by simply touching the door handles and full memory for all vehicle settings for two drivers, depending which key is used. I am sure I have missed something.  The only option missing is the cold weather package.  While this vehicle does have the heated seats it doesn’t have the ski bag and retractable headlight spray nozzles. If has spent its entire life in Florida and never seen snow. ZSP- Sport Package, ZPP- Premium Package, ZPS-Premium Sound, ZRC-Rear Climate control, ZIP-Technology Package,328- aluminum running boards, 456/494-Heated Contour seats,ETC.

The Issues

As we previously mentioned, we are aware of no mechanical issues at all, however there are a few very minor cosmetic issues. There is a small ding in the center of the rear bumper, where it looks like someone bumped it while putting luggage in the back.  The right rear wheel was accidentally scraped on a landscaping stone and has a little rash as a result. There are a couple of VERY MINOR bumps with no paint damage on the door that may not even show in a picture.  There is a small scuff on the far LR corner. All of these can be seen in the accompanying photos.

While preparing this listing, I was reminded by my wife of an issue I had when purchasing this vehicle.  The auction came to me after the car was delivered and said they had found an accident record from December of 2008 in Clearwater, Florida. They offered to allow me to return the vehicle.  I inspected the vehicle and could find no evidence of damage.  I called the Clearwater Police Department, the Pinellas County Sherriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol. I spoke to each agency’s records people and none could find a record of an accident involving this vehicle. I then was directed to www.buycrash.com by the Highway Patrol.  Still nothing.  Our title clerk’s husband is a retired State Trooper; I had him look into it personally.  The consensus of everyone I contacted was there probably was a minor incident in December of 2008. Instead of an actual report there was either a driver information exchange done, or if it was a single car event wherein the previous owner asked for an informational report. According to the agencies contacted, the exchange/informational report would not have become part a permanent record.  Furthermore, the record does not indicate this vehicle ever having an insurance claim filed on it. Since the vehicle was perfect and exactly what I had spent months searching for I accepted it.  Nevertheless, it is part of the record.  The title is perfectly clear, and my wife has enjoyed safe, trouble free driving for the last 32 months. I will be happy to have the vehicle independently inspected by a buyers representative.    Please feel free to contact me directly, with questions.  Guy Marvin, IV     904-334-4308 (c)

I regularly ship vehicles all over the US, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Europe and other places. I will be happy to assist with transportation or will meet you at the Jacksonville International Airport.

Thanks again for giving our vehicle a look.  If you are looking for a well equipped  and well maintained X5 4.8i, we think you will be very pleased with ours.  It is not for sale any place else and will sell here at no reserve. Good Luck.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe blows the doors back on [w/video]

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

BMW sure seems to take pleasure in confusing the hell out of us. It used to be pretty simple: if you wanted a compact Bimmer, you had to look no further than the 3 Series. Then it was just a matter of which bodystyle you wanted. But the smaller end of BMW's lineup has gotten more complicated lately. Never mind the 1 Series and 2 Series (in their various iterations) that have slotted in below it - now the 3 Series has been split in two: Want a four-door, get the new 3 Series. Want a two-door, the 4 Series is your address. Right?
Almost. Because now there's a 4 Series Gran Coupe that keeps the two-door's roofline (or some approximation of it) but adds an extra set of doors in the back, thereby bridging the gap between the 3 Series sedan and 4 Series coupe. And it's just made its public debut here at the Geneva Motor Show.
The difference between this and the two-door 4 Series is plain to see: it's got two extra doors. But what's the difference between this and the 3 Series sedan? About two or three grand, to start with - depending on which version (428i Gran Coupe or 435i Gran Coupe) you choose. But it's also sleeker, more muscular and altogether that extra bit sexier. Which is a good trait, as you can see from our gallery of live shots above, to have in your European sports sedan, coupe, or whatever you want to call it.

Former BMW M boss and Maserati CEO killed in freak motorcycle accident

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

It's a tragic coincidence that on the same weekend the BMW M4 Coupe Concept was introduced in Monterey, one of the men most integral to BMW's M and Motorsports divisions, Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, was killed in England. Kalbfell, a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, was set to compete in the Lansdowne Classic Series at Brands Hatch and had an accident during a practice session. After going wide at Druids Corner and falling, he was hit by a competitor following close behind and died of his injuries after being transported to hospital.
Kalbfell, an engineer, began his career at BMW in 1977 in the communications department; a decade later he was chairman of BMW M GmbH, overseeing development of some of the cars responsible for the myth of M. In 1994 he was named chairman of BMW Motorsport, and his cap full of feathers includes getting the BMW V12 into the McLaren F1, getting the BMW V8 into two Morgan cars, along with developing BMW's Formula One engine and return to the sport. Not incidentally, he also assumed leadership of Project Rolls-Royce after BMW bought the British marque in 1998, which means he oversaw the Goodwood factory upfit and the creation of the Phantom.
He left Rolls-Royce for a brief stint at Fiat, heading Alfa Romeo and Maserati, then went into consulting for clients like Lotus and Paragon, who built the Artega GT. As Autocar notes, Kalbfell "had an abiding sense that customers needed to be attracted to cars by their aura and reputation, not just their engineering." He will be missed.

BMW teases 2 Series Coupe ahead of October 25 debut

Sat, 19 Oct 2013

Although it was finally just confirmed that the last of the BMW 1 Series coupes and convertibles went out of production months ago, we won't have to wait very long to see this model's replacement, the all-new 2 Series. BMW released a teaser video for its new coupe today and also announced that the 2 Series will officially debut on October 25.
We may still have to wait until the Detroit Auto Show to see it up close and in person, even though both the Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show are nearly upon us. Either way, it's not clear when the 2 Series will roll into dealerships. Considering we've already seen the coupe sitting out mostly undisguised for a photo shoot, there really isn't much to see in terms of styling of the car in this sun-drenched, dirt-slinging teaser. BMW does say that this is the first trailer ahead of the 2 Series' unveiling, so there are likely to be more to follow the video seen below.
