UPGRADES: (All professionally done, with the best parts)
Ok, here is where this truck exceeds anything else out there...
-Front turn signals changed to Amber LED. This eliminates the "egg yolk" effect so you have no orange in the lights except when the turn signal is on. Also the LED makes it look super modern as its instant on and instant off.
-Angel Eyes have been upgraded from the halogen (yellow-ish color light) to full LED. So the front lights look like the 2012-2013 X5.
-BMW Aero kit. This includes the front and rear bumper spoilers that make the car look (tastefully) upgraded. Also makes the rear bumper look more like the 2013 version.
-2013 taillights. Yes, the Tail light assembly has also been upgraded with BMW Factory lights for the 2013 model.
-FULL LED interior package. EVERY bulb inside has been changed to match the head lights and courtesy lights mounted under the door handles. No more yellow interior lights, this is all super white.
-LED fog lamps. I had the fog lamps upgraded to the blue/white to match the headlights.
-Orange reflector delete / euro reflector swap. The front of the X5 has orange corner reflectors that I had swapped out with smoked ones. They are very high quality and look amazing.
-Euro TECH/Option Package. This is the icing on the cake. There are a list of features available to European buyers that we do not get in the US. I have all of these installed for you. These include:
-----Roll up/down windows, open/close sunroof from key fob
-----Fold side mirrors in/out from key fob... this looks particularly impressive when you jump out of the car and all the windows close and mirrors fold in as you walk away....
-----CLOSE rear power lift-gate from key fob and from button INSIDE car (US option is only OPEN from key and inside cabin... you have to press a button on the lift-gate itself to close it.)
-----No "accept" on the navigation every time you get in the car. (you're welcome)
-----Orange turn signals do not illuminate full time when lights are on. (signals blink, but then are not on permanently with lights.. so front is all LED/HID hyper white... no orange)
-----Hazard lights are a double flash then pause, double flash. Not a huge feature but its kind of cool.
-BMW Factory ipod/iphone cable already purchased and included ($80)
-BMW Factory Roof rack $300
-BMW Factory windshield shade $60
-BMW Factory floor mats $175
Maintenance:
Tires were new June 2012 (although I had to replace a rear one 2 months ago do to a fatal puncture, so 3 are a year old and one is brand new), Front brakes done last month with Japanese dustless pads (amazing pads... keeps your rims clean!!) Tie rod ends also done at the same time. Oil change at dealer 2 weeks ago, new air suspension, alternator and some engine seal (Yay warranty!!). Currently needs nothing for 10K miles. Oh, new top of the line AGM battery as well with a 3 year warranty.
Vehicle:
Honestly it's easier to list the features it doesn't have because its LOADED with every option available EXCEPT, 3rd row seats, rear DVD and air cooled seats. Seriously this thing has things on it that I am still discovering. But it for sure has all of the impressive ones, like push start (key just has to be in your pocket), touch the door handle and it unlocks/locks, HID headlights that move when you turn, DUAL subwoofers, iPod integration, speak commands for navi, phone, radio, power lift-gate, heated seats, 20" wheels, ugh... this thing is amazing.

Senior VP Hildegard Wortmann says BMW's electric journey is just beginning
Fri, Mar 14 2014Anyone who questions BMW's effort or sincerity on electrified vehicles should have a chat with Hildegard Wortmann, the German automaker's senior vice president over product management for automobiles and aftersales. I was fortunate to do just that at the Detroit North American International Auto Show earlier this year. ABG: Where might BMW go with electrified vehicles beyond your i3 urban EV and i8 high-performance hybrid sports car? "That [regulatory] train has left the station" - Hildegard Wortmann HW: I think a big advantage is that we now have two bookends: BMW i [green] and BMW M [high performance]. We can use those bookends to foster the BMW brand in total. Are electrified vehicles the answer to CAFE and European regulations? Is that the future? We don't know, but that [regulatory] train has left the station. To achieve all of these regulations worldwide, there is no way to do it without electrification. That is why the activities of BMW i are not just to launch new products. They are our build-up in competence for learning and gaining experience in electrification. We will use those learnings for the total BMW brand. Technology-wise, we now have a really good understanding of what to do, what not to do, how to work with this and how to get a lot of learnings from the infrastructure and everything that goes with it. And depending on how quickly the market takes off, we can scale it and use it across the range. We will use the competence we will have in vehicle electrification for more than just BMW i. There will be other derivatives and electrification of other products. ABG: Do you see BMW offering pure EVs with larger batteries for greater range? HW: That's a big feature of the Tesla. The question is to find the best balance [of range vs. battery size, weight and cost]. On the i3, we tried to have the right balance between how much range customers need for daily driving and how much battery we put in there. The market will show us. We have over a million kilometers driven by consumers in the Mini E and ActiveE and a fairly good understanding that those people are not driving that much. Putting a really big battery with all that weight into a car that is meant for urban mobility does not make sense. ABG: What about extended-range EVs beyond the i3's optional small range extender engine? "This whole EV movement is in its very early stages." HW: This whole EV movement is in its very early stages.
Mystery shoppers love Infiniti, hate Tesla
Tue, Jul 12 2016Infiniti, followed by Lexus tied with Mercedes-Benz took the top two spots for best sales experience according to mystery shoppers from the latest Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index, while EV manufacturer Tesla recorded the lowest overall score. Not surprisingly, premium brands dominated the top ranks. Including the three already mentioned, luxury brands occupied seven of the top ten spots and included Audi, BMW, Porsche, and the only American brand to crack the upper echelon, Cadillac. Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan rounded out the first ten positions. The news for domestic automakers isn't good. Aside from Caddy, the only other star-spangled automaker to score above the industry average is Chrysler. The rest of FCA, most of GM, and all of Ford fell below the line. But Pied Piper's mystery shoppers handed Tesla the biggest walloping – the company is ten full points below the next lowest brand, Volvo, and its score of 86 is 17 below the average of 103. It's baffling, considering the company's touted direct-sales model. "Tesla leaves me scratching my head," Fred O'Hagan, Pied Piper's president and CEO, told Wards Auto. "They own all of their stores, so you would think each one would be doing the same thing. But they're not. Tesla is consistent in its inconsistencies." O'Hagan added that there's a "huge variation" in Tesla's store-to-store effectiveness, and that in some cases, shoppers found showroom workers that acted more like "museum curators," Wards Auto reports. It might be popular to call Tesla the Apple of the car world, but based on Pied Piper's work, the brand has a long way to go to emulate the uniform shopping experience of an Apple Store. The news might be bad for Tesla, but even for the brands that scored below average, there's cause for celebration. Only Tesla and Mini lost points in this year's rankings, and only Mercedes and Lincoln held steady. Every other brand, including Infiniti, which topped the index for the first time, gained at least one point. The biggest improvements belong to Porsche, Land Rover, and Mitsubishi, which all jumped five points. Pied Piper's annual Prospect Satisfaction Index uses mystery shoppers – over 6,100 this year – from across the country to assess dealers and generate rankings from over 50 individual factors. BMW M6 amped up for track duty by Risden
Sat, 22 Dec 2012Risden Engineering is a bit of an unknown, if we're being completely honest - we have yet to report on the company to date, and its corporate website is really an information desert save for the name and a few email addresses. Even the press release that we requested from Risden's contact person is short and vague. That's all pretty much okay with us as long as the shadowy tuners, you know, make good on this sweet-looking BMW M6 racecar thing.
Dubbed the Risden 6R, we're told that the M6 modification will result in a vehicle that is more adept at track work, while still being street-legal. In terms of specifics, we read that a full aero kit will be involved, with one fixed and one retractable rear wing (hard to miss). There are obviously new wheels, and the company has also added a fully adjustable suspension, a four-point roll bar and a new braking system - all while reducing curb weight overall.
Apparently more details are to follow after the 6R's official release in the first quarter of 2013. We wait with bated breath.
