BMW i8 added to exotic Dubai police fleet
Thu, Mar 12 2015Apparently the Dubai Police is ready to start expanding its vast collection of exotic cars yet again. After taking a little while off from new purchases, the cops there recently added a Lexus RC F to the stable, and now the force has gone green – well, kind of. The latest high-performance vehicle to wear the green and white livery is a BMW i8. While the video above isn't in English, the clip is self-explanatory by showing off officials getting out of the high-performance hybrid coupe and taking a walk around it. With a total output of a mere 357 horsepower, the i8 is practically the economy entry in the Dubai Police fleet that includes a Bugatti Veyron and McLaren MP4-12C. 2015 BMW M3 squares off against Alpina D3 in gas vs. diesel throwdown
Sat, 26 Jul 2014There was a time when diesel meant one of two things: This vehicle's owner either wants to save some money at the pump or needs to haul massive loads. It definitely did not mean that the owner of said machine wanted to drive fast, but that perception has slowly but surely been changing over the last several years, with automakers from Volkswagen and Ford to Audi and BMW offering spiced-up versions of their high-compression, turbocharged diesels.
It's that last automaker we mentioned that's the subject of the video you'll see down below. One bright-blue BMW M3 was procured by the Brits at Autocar, and it was lined up against a deep-black Alpina D3 (which we sadly can't buy in the US) in a spate of tests, including acceleration, stopping, sound and lap times on a closed circuit. The results, which we won't spoil for you, were enlightening, and were followed up by personal impressions from the man behind the wheel.

2015 BMW i8 configurator is ready to show the future
Mon, 22 Sep 2014Good news if you're one of the lucky few that can afford the new BMW i8. The high-performance hybrid's configurator has gone live on BMW USA's consumer website, meaning you can head in and customize till you drop.
If you've ever played with a BMW configurator, you'll instantly feel at home with the i8's. You have the choice of four trim packages (your author refuses to use BMW's pretentious "World" trim names), followed by wheel and exterior paint options. The interior choices are fixed to the trim level, so aside from trim, color and the choice of two wheel options, there isn't a lot to pick out on the i8.
