This is being relisted. I could not find the title last auction. I now have title in hand, California smog check past with flying colors, and registration go through 2014.

Up for sale is our 2001 BMW X5 Sport with Navigation. A bit of background. We have owned this SUV about 9 years. My wife drove it until we had our second child and needed something bigger. This is fully loaded with low miles. We serviced regularly and used Mobil 1 synthetic. Within the last year I changed the valve cover gaskets which commonly leak on the X5 and are a pain to change. Also, replaced the plugs with the OEM set from NGK, 2 coils. This is all within 500 miles.

At 95K miles, transmission rebuilt which is a huge concern with x5s. This is a full rebuild and shifts and runs like new. Within last few 2 years replaced, radiator, water pump, and alternator, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, coils, fuel filter, wiper blades, oil (has < 200 miles on it),  3 new window regulators (except drivers door).

The paint is good and there are no dents, dings or scratches anywhere. The SUV has never been in an accident and comes with a clean car fax. The hood and the roof had the clear coat starting to lift/cloud. We had the hood painted by a bumper repair place about 1 year ago. They did not paint the roof since you can not see it unless you are looking from above. Outside of the roof, the paint is in very good shape.

Interior is excellent with exception of the driver seat. Its fine but leather is cracked on the edge and lower seat back. It was sitting outdoors for some time. Reupholstering would cost about $250 from quotes I received.

This truck has been sitting in our driveway for about 1 year collecting dust. We have not had time to list it as I travel and my wife doesnt like to show it alone. Time to get rid of it.

The only thing that needs to be repaired is the drivers window. It operates fine but if lowered all the way, it gets stuck and needs to be wedged to get to go up. Its not the window motor. It’s a bushing that holds the glass to the regulator. I replaced the same thing on the pass. door a while back. Very easy fix and a DIY job. Parts ~$25. I just don’t have time to take care of it.

** NOTE THE WHEELS IN THE PICTURE WERE SOLD. THEY COME WITH THE STOCK 19" WHEELS. SEE PICS FOR CURRENT WHEELS. ALSO AC SCHNITZER PACKAGE ON FRONT INSTALLED. THE REAR I REMOVED

BMW 8 Series revival not coming anytime soon

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

If you thought the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe concept that was shown at Villa d'Este a few months back was a preview of a new BMW 8 Series, prepare to be disappointed. According to a report from the UK's Autocar, BMW officials have "rejected suggestions" that a production model based on the concept was coming. To be fair, though, would you expect them to just acknowledge it?
The Brits seem to be thinking the same, as the story went on to quote BMW research and development chief, Herbert Diess, who claimed, "We're looking into the possibility of production, but a decision is still a way off." Diess also points out that it's far too early for anything to be confirmed, seeing as how the concept only debuted about 10 weeks ago.
The well-received Gran Lusso was penned by Pininfarina and motivated by a brawny, twelve-cylinder engine. If it were to enter production, it'd likely sit at the top of BMW's gas-powered offerings, and would compete against the Mercedes-Benz CL AMG and Bentley Continental GT.

All 25 James Bond movies ranked only by their cars

Mon, Sep 13 2021

There is no shortage of lists ranking the best James Bond movies. Ditto lists about the best or worst James Bond cars. I know, I've written some of them. As such, why not combine the two ideas into one new list that ranks all 25 official James Bond movies based exclusively on their cars, or more accurately their car content. I would then pull from my 25 years of James Bond nerddom plus the excellent "Bond Cars: The Definitive History" and our interview with long-time Bond special effects supervisor Chris Corbould to provide tidbits and factoids about the cars and their roles in the movies. And yes(!), this list now includes "No Time to Die," which impresses by adding plenty of car content to the series. It's now available on Blu-ray and download. To determine the list, I considered the inherent coolness of the cars as well as their importance to Bond, film and car history. I considered their importance to the story as well as the quality/excitement of the chases and scenes they participated in. Finally, I tried my best to divorce the car content from my opinions about the movies in general. That my personal list of best James movies looks nothing like this shows I was at least partially successful.     25. 'Moonraker' There are virtually no cars in "Moonraker." None. Oh, there's a gondola on wheels that makes a pigeon do a double-take, but that's not the same thing as a car. Neither is a golf cart. Or an ambulance. Or a space shuttle.   24. 'From Russia With Love' The literary James Bond mostly drove an ancient Bentley, and "From Russia with Love" is the only film in which it appears. It stays parked and the coolest thing that happens (by 1962 standards) is 007 answers its car phone. Thereafter, we get some old cars (even by 1962 standards) driving around Istanbul and a yellow truck. So yeah. Classic Bond film, a must-watch, just not for its car content.   23. 'Dr. No' History records that the first "Bond car" is the Sunbeam Alpine in "Dr. No." The car itself was literally borrowed from a Miss Jennifer Jackson of 53 Lady Musgrave Road in Jamaica for 10 pounds per day for two days during filming. Also, the stunt where it drove under an excavator blocking the road was entirely conceived because the filmmakers showed up to the road they intended to film on and discovered an excavator blocking the thing. Sadly, those are really the only two things interesting about the Alpine, which is a pretty small and dainty thing by Bond car standards.

Drifting can be dangerous for spectators, too

Fri, 02 May 2014

Okay kids, here's your lesson for the day. When you go to a motorsports event (that isn't a rally), there are these things called walls. They're big and hard. There might be stacks of tires in front of them. There are also these things called barriers, catch fences and run-off areas. They exist to protect you, the spectator, when something inevitably goes wrong on the track.
If you don't have these things, you probably shouldn't be watching whatever four-wheeled mayhem is taking place. This gentleman learned that the hard way, after getting a bit too close while some hoon drifts his BMW 3 Series.
Scroll down for the video, and be warned, while there isn't any blood that we can see, some viewers might find the sight of a human getting punted by a BMW disturbing.
