I’m selling my 2004 BMW X3 3.0i Premium Package with 85k miles. The 3.0 is a nice upgrade over the more common 2.5, because it generates about 30 more horsepower while still providing the same gas mileage. The BMW X3 is all-wheel drive, which is great in slippery conditions, such as rainy weather (it doesn’t snow here), while averaging 23 mpg, which, in my opinion, is phenomenal for an all-wheel drive SUV. The Premium Package includes the panoramic sun roof, which is a sun roof that encompasses the front and rear passengers instead of the normal small sun roof that only covers the front passengers. After having a panoramic sun roof you can never go back to an ordinary sun roof; they just look too small and do not provide the same feeling. The panoramic sun roof on my X3 works perfectly, both the interior shutter and the glass roof, which is immensely important when purchasing a pre-owned BMW. Many BMW owners break their sun roofs by fiddling with them too much and then just disable them, because they are too lazy to have them fixed. My X3 has never been in a wreck and has a clean car fax, which I have a copy of the report I ran when we purchased it. To the best of my knowledge my X3 has never been painted either. The silver exterior is 9.5 out of 10 in my opinion. Silver is a classic BMW color. Other colors come and go in the BMW line up, but silver is always available. I do not think there is a single dent due to the dent resistant panels, but there is a mark here and there. The head lights are not fogy, but they have a few marks that can be seen when the light is right. The tinted privacy glass windows are original and they all operate as they were designed. BMWs are known for slow power windows as they age, but my X3 has properly working power windows. The aluminum wheels do not have any curb rash, but there are a few scraps on the edges from the previous owner having tires installed. You have to look for them though if you want to see them. The tires are in decent shape, not new but not old either. We are still driving with them, and we feel secure. I would not allow my family to ride in a car with tires that I felt were not safe. I installed new brake pads on all four wheels about 8 months ago. I installed ceramic pads instead of the OEM pads, because the OEM pads produce a lot of black soot/dust that covers the wheels in filth and the ceramic pads do not have that problem. If you have looked at many BMWs you have noticed the black filth on the wheels from the brake pads, especially the front wheels. The bumpers do not have any marks from bumping into things. All of the lights work correctly. I just replaced both of the bulbs in the day time running lights, because one burnt out. There is not a single speck of rust on my X3. When you buy an automobile you need to buy one in a place that has rattle snakes and scorpions, which means Texas or Arizona. My X3 is absolutely rust free. The interior is just as nice as the exterior, which is hard to find in a pre-owned BMW. This is my wife’s second BMW, and when we were going to BMW dealers to shop for a car it was remarkable how many of the dealerships pre-owned BMWs were disgusting inside. My X3 has perfect black carpet; no stains, no tears, and no rips. The cargo area has a fitted OEM BMW plastic floor mat that has a nice ridge around it to control any messes from your wife buying plants at Lowe’s. The front floor mats are in good shape. They are not tattered and torn, but the Velcro that holds them in place under one of the mats is starting to come off. They still have a lot of life left in them, because if they didn’t I would have replaced them already. The leather seats are nice. The secret to maintaining nice leather seats is every time you wash your car you need to put leather treatment on the seats, which keeps them soft and prevents them from cracking. The seats in my X3 are soft and free of any cracks, tears, and holes. All of the seams and welts in my seats are properly attached and sewn. On X3 front seats there are two nylon welts that run down the middle of the seat for styling purposes. The nylon flaked off the welt in two places for a total area of about the size of a pencil eraser, so my wife colored the backing with a black marker, which makes it difficult to find. That is the largest imperfection in the interior. The cup holder in the center console also has some wear around the top edge from my wife putting her water bottle there, but nothing too noticeable. All of the gauges light up and display as designed, but the fuel gage has moments of sluggishness. I would estimate that 90% of the time the gage displays the correct value and the remaining 10% of the time it displays a value that is a 1/8 tank lower than reality. The error is always on the side of safety. All of the electronics work properly, such as radio, CD player, climate control, and lighting. The previous owner had the BMW dealer install the optional MP3 connection to the OEM stereo, which is really nice to have. We have not listened to a CD since we bought our X3, because it is so much easier to play MP3s through our cell phones via this connection. One characteristic that always impressed us about the X3 in general was the amount of room for rear passengers; there is a lot of room for passengers. My son’s car seat fits without any problems. The steering wheel has controls for the stereo, cruise control, and Bluetooth phone connection. The steering wheel in my X3 is in nice condition, which is also an item many BMWs will show heavy wear on. I’m not a Bluetooth user so we never used it, therefore I cannot verify it works. However, when you press the buttons a voice comes on and makes an attempt to connect to a Verizon phone, which I always assumed was the previous owner’s phone. The oil has always been changed using BMW products. I recently had the belts changed along with the thermostat and water pump. I have an entire book of records of service completed by the previous owner at Autobahn BMW of Fort Worth and Moritz BMW. I have all of my service completed by Lone Star Bavarian. The fuel pump was replaced about one year ago by Lone Star Bavarian. I have the title in my name, so there will not be any hassle dealing with a bank. I invite and encourage all bidders to personally inspect my X3 prior to bidding. I am willing to meet the winning bidder at either DFW or DAL airport if they choose to collect the vehicle in person or provide reasonable assistance to the winning bidder’s shipping agent in loading my X3 into a shipping truck. Thank you for your interest. Please contact me with any further questions.

BMW web sales plan opposed by German dealers
Tue, 23 Jul 2013Tesla isn't the only manufacturer that is facing a backlash over its plans to sell cars directly to customers. BMW is under fire from its German dealerships over its desire to sell its cars via the internet.
BMW has plans to sell the new i3 through the World Wide Web, while a "Mobile Sales Force" will be making house calls. According to Automotive News Europe, Head of German Sales Roland Krueger told German weekly Wirtschaftswoche, "We can imagine that Internet sales could be expanded to all models." This is the particular caveat that has traditional brick-and-mortar dealers so up in arms.
According to the head of BMW's German dealerships Werner Entenmann, "We told BMW in no uncertain terms that we cannot accept direct sales channels." Reuters reports that an anonymous dealer has gone so far as to pledge not to use the sales force in Germany. Krueger, for what it's worth, told Wirtschaftswoche that the "backbone" of BMW sales will still be traditional dealerships.
BMW, Toyota outline new tech joint venture, new sports car
Fri, 25 Jan 2013Back in June, Toyota and BMW announced a "memorandum of understanding" outlining plans for the two companies to join forces on future products and technology development. On Thursday, they signed a more formal and binding agreement that goes further into detail about the partnership, and it all sounds pretty exciting. The two announced they will work together in four main areas:
Joint development of a fuel cell system
"Set up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle"
BMW names new head of M division
Wed, 24 Sep 2014BMW's performance division has been run by Dr. Friedrich Nitschke since 2011, developing, among other products, the new M3 and M4. But soon the good doctor will be retiring, and BMW has just named his successor.
Taking Nitschke's place as chairman of BMW M GmbH will be Franciscus van Meel (pictured at right), who until recently served as managing director of Audi Quattro GmbH - the rival outfit that makes Ingolstadt's performance models, including the R8 supercar and RS line of performance models.
Van Meel will join BMW on October 1, presumably to learn the ropes from Nitschke before the 59-year-old executive steps down at the end of the year. Back in January, Audi named Heinz Peter Hollwerweger as head of Quattro GmbH and reassigned van Meel to its Beijing R&D center, a role which evidently didn't suit him as well as creating Autobahn-storming German muscle cars.
