This is a beautiful example of an M5 with the more current iDrive and navigation than earlier E60 M5s.  It has black ventilated leather on the inside (and they really cover everything in leather on the M5 vs normal 5-series vehicles).  It is black sapphire metallic in color so doesn't show carwash swirl marks like a flat black one would.   This has the Olive Ash Wood interior, which is much classier than the aluminum standard trim in my opinion.  See the pictures for yourself, but they don't do it justice.

Some options:

-Black Sapphire Metallic/Black full leather interior (leather on the dash, side doors, window sill and lots of other places. Very 'leathery' interior'
-SMG 7 speed transmission. The critical thing is that I've had the SMG pump and relay replaced this summer, so it's warrantied by BMW for the next two years. That's the component that seems to fail at about 50-60k miles. It takes a while to get the hang of this transmission and be smooth about it. You basically ought to set the transmission to do rapid shifts, then you shift it like a manual most of the time. But if you're in traffic or have something in your hand, you can push the lever over to automatic and have it shift for you.
-Power Rear window shade and manual rear passenger door and quarter window sun shades.
-Olive Ash Wood interior replaces the base aluminum trim, and gives a classier look to the interior
-Technology package
-Climate package
-Heads up display
-Ventilated front seats
-Automatic high beam headlights
-Adaptive Headlights that swivel in turns
-Comfort Access Keyless Entry (I suggest not buying a BMW without this. It's really convenient)
-Soft close doors
-Multifunction seats with memory settings
-Integrated Universal Remote
-Rear side mirror with Automatic Dip
-Active Seat Bolsters -Driver and Passenger
-Headlight washer system
-Navigation System Professional with Live Traffic information and re-routing
-Voice Control
-Preparation for Satellite radio (I let it run out)
-BMW Individual Audio System with USB/Audio inputs and HDD storage (there's a USB and headphone plug in the center arm rest and a plug in the rear. There's a USB port in the glove box to load music files onto the car's hard drive.)
-Park Distance Control (PDC) with a visualization on the front and rear of the car that shows you how close you are to things around the car.
-In addition to the stock wheels, I have a set of winter tires on rims.  They are high end forged wheels with the best winter tires available (Michelin X-Ice Xi3) with lots of tred left. The summer tires are due to be changed and I plan to put new tires on it next summer, per my Dealer's suggestion.

I attached all the photos, including the photos of the scratches on the car that I've catalogued:
-2 tires have small chips on them. Not noticable unless you look close up.
-Windshield has a filled in stone chip that is still noticable. It's on the upper right corner, so out of the way of the driver completely and out of the passenger's vision too.
-little scuff in the passenger door
-2 small scratch marks in the surface of the driver's side seat bolster. not even close to through the leather, but noticable. I think it came from my ID badge.
-After a carwash with polish and then under certain light, you can see some modelling in the blacked out chrome trim. you can have the car wash rub it down to not noticable with a cloth or just rub it with your finger, but each time I get a car wash, it comes back. My wife has never noticed, but now that I have, I can't not notice it.

I would be happy to bring it into a BMW dealer for an inspection at your cost if you'd like. If you'd like to call me, I'd be happy to answer any more questions about this great car.

I'm selling it because it's really not my type of car.  I bought it because a neighbor had one and raved about it, but I'm just not that spirited a driver.  So to me, the engine doesn't feel very powerful since I don't rev it high, and the transmission isn't smooth since I typically use automatic mode.  This is really a manual transmission that you can drive in automatic versus the PDK type transmissions that are basically automatics that you can paddle shift with.   My neighbor drives a little more spiritedly and paddle shifts, so it that's you, then you'll love this car.  If you're just looking for an attractive, all-options luxury car, you shouldn't buy this car.  I've had a 335 and a 540.  I think I'll go back to their equivalent.  I may also list this locally if I get around to it, so there's a chance that I sell it locally and have to cancel the bid.

The car certainly has some nice features.  The Alacantra roof liner is quite striking and gives a real air of disctinction to the car.  The wheels are sharp, immediately differentiating this car from other 5-series.  The whole stance of the car is menacing without being over the top about it.  Lovely really, and it gets many compliments and looks of awe or jealousy.  The critical elements of Seat and Steering Wheel are fantastic - The best I've ever felt.  Even the cruise control was a pleasant surprise with some nice little features that let you jump up or down by 5mph.

When you do accelerate quickly, especially after pressing the intimidatingly labeled "M-Mode", the car becomes alive.  The seats grab you, the heads-up display on the windshield shows a tachometer and speed on the windshield in bright colors and the engine seems to double in size.  The sound on this mode is quite glorious too.

It is a tough decision to sell it, but the car just doesn't make sense for a driver like me.

+++  THIS HAS A CLEAR TITLE +++  AutoCheck reports a loan on the car if there was ever a loan on the car, even if it is paid off or from a prior owner.  I paid in cash and have a clear Michigan title in hand.

2018 Kia Stinger vs. other luxury hatchbacks compared by the numbers

Sat, Nov 18 2017

Ten years ago, if you had told us that one of the many new luxury segments to develop would be sedan-style hatchbacks, we'd have said you'd lost your mind. And yet, here we are today with not one, but four cars competing in just such a niche upscale segment: The Kia Stinger, Buick Regal Sportback, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo and Audi A5. That's just in one size and price bracket. Two of the manufacturers listed here make larger versions of each luxury hatchback. We aren't entirely sure how it happened, but we're not going to complain, because we love the idea of a car with almost no compromise: luxury features, sporty performance, and plenty of practicality. Try Autoblog' s Car Finder to search for your next new vehicle. One of the reasons we're taking a look at these cars right now is that Kia has recently released pricing for its entry in the segment, the Stinger and Stinger GT. Buick wasn't far behind with the Regal Sportback and Regal GS, nor was Audi with the A5 and S5. So it seemed like an appropriate moment to look at the numbers and see which come out ahead or behind, with victors in each category highlighted with bold and underlined text. What we found when comparing these cars' statistics is that each one has a clear area of expertise. For performance, it's hard to beat the four-cylinder Kia Stinger and the V6 Stinger GT. The four-banger has the most horsepower of the four cars, and is just behind on torque. The V6 has the most power and torque among the six-cylinder versions. The Stingers are also the second lightest of the group when equipped with rear-wheel drive, though they fall to third with all-wheel drive. Space is a split between the Buick Regals and BMW 3 Series Gran Turismos. The Buicks have the most cargo space with the rear seats up or folded by a significant margin. The BMW on the other hand generally offers more space for passengers. It's up to you what's most important. Compare these and other potential new vehicle purchases using our tool. When it comes to cost, nothing can beat the four-cylinder Regal's base price of under $26,000. But if a V6 is what you're after, the Stinger GT is the cheapest. Neither matches the Audi A5 and S5 for fuel economy, though. Both Audis have the highest numbers for city, highway, and combined EPA estimates. Related Video:

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.

BMW X4 hatches its fastback shape in Shanghai

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

The day has finally come for BMW to pull the covers off its X4 Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show. The machine brings few surprises - we've already seen an official image gallery from the German automaker, so its exterior shape was well known - but at least now we get to see it with our own eyes, and with the lenses of our very own cameras.
You can clearly see the fastback roofline in our high-res image gallery above, along with the jacked-up stance that allows BMW to call this machine a Sports Activity Vehicle, which basically means "Crossover" to our friends in Munich. We've seen similar vehicle shapes before, most notably in the form of the BMW X6, but also as far back as the 1980s from the likes of AMC.
We fully expect the transition from concept to production to be pretty seamless, so what we see here is, for the most part, what we'll see on the showroom floor in 2014. Feel free to peruse the press release below, but first, be sure to browse through our live images from Shanghai and let us know what you think.
