It is with mixed emotions that I am placing my "baby" up for sale.  She turns heads everywhere I go, though she has been a garage queen for the last 18 months.  Keeping her in the garage all the time has kept her all nice and clean, but this car deserves to be driven a bit more than I have the time to devote to it right now.  It has always been an added vehicle for me and garage kept its entire life.

The 2006 BMW M5 is equipped with almost all added options available plus the standard features.  The standard features of the M5 includes power seats, power mirrors, 7 speed auto shifter with paddle shifters, heated leather seats, cruise, navigation, CD changer, sunroof, high end stereo, etc.  The added option on this car include iPod integration, heads-up display, ventilated (cooled) seats, multi-function seats with lumbar adjustment, active seat width adjustment, satellite (SirrusXM) radio, split fold down rear seats, leather dash, leather center console, leather door covers, and suede headliner.  In addition to this, a couple added features to this includes the aFe Intake system, Eisenmann stainless steel exhaust, and 20in aftermarket wheels with nearly new tires (approx 1500 miles).  Stock, there is 507 horsepower on the M5, but the addition of the intake and exhaust, gives this approx 540 at the crank.  These were professionally installed and the stock intake comes with the car if you choose to change it back.

I have owned for over 2 years and purchased it from the dealer that sold it new and serviced it for the first 79k miles.  I have all records of the maintenance and repairs.  Prior to delivery when I purchased, an error code for the transmission came up so the dealership chose to pull the trans to replace the clutch (initial diagnosis).  When out, it was determined it was a relay, not a the clutch that was the problem but when ahead and replaced the clutch anyway.  I state this because some of these cars have been driven very hard and not keep up on the service.  This car has been babied its entire life.  The miles are higher than some as the previous owner drove 120 miles a day on the interstate (Carfax report shows this to be 18k/yr average).

If you are picky like me, here are the minor "flaws" to the car:  very small stone chip in windshield (I will have repaired prior to delivery), some minor stone marks on the hood on front bumper, minor wear on drivers side bolster and armrest, minor curb rash on two wheels (thanks to my wife but that is another tale for another day).  Otherwise, mechanically it is in top shape with all services up to date.  Recent front brakes, tires, and alignment.

BMW takes 30th Anniversary Edition M5 out to drift

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

If you only look at the videos from BMW, it appears that the best way to celebrate the 30th birthday of the M5 is some smoky drifting, and it sure looks like a great way to mark the occasion to us. Now that the Bavarian brand's new 30th anniversary special edition is all set to hit the road, the most powerful M5 ever is getting it own chance to roast its tires on video, as well.
The M5 30th Anniversary Edition shouldn't have any problem hanging its rear end out, really. Under the hood, its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 is turned up to 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and can allegedly sprint to 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.7 seconds. That's pretty impressive for any sports car but especially for a sedan that can still carry four passengers comfortably cosseted in leather and Alcantara upholstery.
BMW is making just 300 of these celebratory models worldwide, and appropriately for the anniversary, only 30 of them are going to be available in the US. If the special M5 doesn't make your heart race, the video basks in a little nostalgia, as well, by showing off the original model for some historical context.

BMW M3 and M4 will rock 430 hp from twin-turbo six with standard manual [w/video]

Wed, 25 Sep 2013

We're not sure which spec we're most intrigued by for the new BMW M3 and M4: the twin-turbo six-cylinder with 430 horsepower and "far beyond" 369 pound-feet of torque, the 3,300-pound curb weight or the standard six-speed manual transmission with automatic throttle blipping on downshifts. That engine is fitted with both Valvetronic and Double-Vanos, twin-wire arc-spray coating in the cylinders instead of liners to save weight, a track-ready cooling system with additional radiators, a forged crankshaft, dry-sump lubrication and a magnesium oil sump. BMW says its "high revving concept" has a redline beyond 7,500 rpm.
In the M4, it will be pulling a coupe with "a weight of just under 1,500 kilograms," which is 3,300 pounds to you and me. That number is said to include no driver and 90 percent fuel, but we're still waiting on the exact number and specs. BMW says it's "around 80 kilograms lighter than a comparably equipped predecessor model," putting the power-to-weight ratio at something like 7.68 pounds per horsepower at the same time as it helps reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent. The use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for the roof, drive shaft (with no center bearing), trunk and front strut brace, and forged aluminum for suspension components, have aided in the weight loss. This time around, the sedan - the M3 - will also get a CFRP roof.
The default option will be a six-speed manual.

BMW 4 Series configurator comes online

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

The best money in the world might be configurator money - you never run out of it and you can never spend it the wrong way. We hope you're ready to dip into your configurator savings account, because it's time to start speccing out the 2014 BMW 4 Series, the coupe having just arrived in the virtual world.
There are four possible opening gambits: the 428i for $40,500, the 428i xDrive for $42,500, the 435i for $46,000 or the 435i xDrive for $48,000. After you've chosen your first move, there are three trim options: the $1,400 Luxury Line that features lots of chrome and wood (shown), the $1,700 Sport Line that adds lots of gloss black and contrasting trim color and stitching, or the $3,100 M Sport that offers the M Estoril Blue hue and lots of M-division specific accessories.
Starting with the 435i xDrive and M Sport, we then added items like the 19-inch wheels ($900), the Dynamic Handling Package ($1,000), Cold Weather Package ($700), Premium Package ($2,200), Tech Package ($3,150) and the Lighting Package ($1,900) on top of any other box we could check. The total, after the $925 destination and handling charge: $66,749.
