2000 Bmw E39 M5 Previously From *paul Walker & Roger Rodas Ae Collection* on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
Up for sale consideration is this low mileage 2000 BMW M5. This vehicle was previously purchased from the AE Collection (Paul Walker & Roger Rodas collection) back in 2011. This is a rare opportunity to own a car from their auto collection. I mention this only to offer the potential buyer the ultimate confidence in regards to this vehicle's history. All of the vehicles at AE are hand picked and they are some of the most tasteful models from today's market. This M5 has been consistently serviced at BMW dealerships since that purchase and I have been advised by BMW that it was previously a CPO (certified pre owned) BMW. This should give the buyer a solid piece of mind, knowing that everything was serviced on this vehicle at the correct service intervals. This is a key note for all BMW M vehicles as they are very sensitive to maintenance at the recommended intervals. This M5 does have the updated pistons that BMW changed from the earlier M5's. This update corrected the "burning oil" issue found on those earlier models. As a result, it will take either the 5w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic motor oil or the previous thicker oil from Castrol that was exclusive to the E39 M5. The tires are the recommended Michelin models and they still have a long life on them. I had purchased a new set back in 2011 at about 40k miles. This M5 has no known mechanical issues. It runs and performs just as it should. It passes smog and all of the electrical components perform as they should. The clutch is still original and very healthy. The interior is like new, and the exterior paint still shines and feels like it left the showroom floor yesterday. This was very well taken care of by the team at AE and I have only continued the love and appreciation for this car. We are considering the sale to support our growing family, and thus I have very little time to drive and appreciate this car. Please look at the photos to judge for yourself. BMW to offer carbon fiber wheels in a year or two
Sun, 23 Feb 2014The Citroën SM sat on the first set of production glass fiber and resin wheels in 1972 when parent company Michelin developed the exotic hoops in order to take the SM rallying. It wasn't until 2008 that we got the first all-carbon-fiber wheel for passenger cars in the form of a prototype model from Weds Sports in Japan that remained a prototype. Australian company Carbon Revolution followed that a year later with its CR-9 all-CF wheel, first introduced on the Shelby Ultimate Aero and now available for independent purchase for about $15,000 per set. BMW could be the first OEM to offer entire wheels in carbon fiber reinforced plastic in two years.
The wheels - either all-CFRP or using a CFRP rim and alloy spokes - were shown off during BMW's Innovation Days in Munich and are products of the development work done on its i-branded cars. The full-CFRP wheel is 35-percent lighter than a forged alloy wheel, the hybrid alloy and CFRP wheel is 25-percent lighter, making for a decent drop in unsprung rotating weight. As demonstrators during a tech day the wheels aren't yet in the pipeline for production and EU approval, but an article in Auto Express claims that they could be on the market as soon as two years from now.
Other possible parts include a full carbon fiber steering wheel and propeller shaft, the latter of which is coming as a single-piece component on the new M3 and M4. BMW is also talking up its use of secondary carbon fiber - waste material from i3 and i8 production - that can be used for items like IP support structures, seat frames and spare wheels in place of traditional metals like aluminum and magnesium. There's an excerpt of the Innovation Day press release below with more details.
Meet the inventor of the BMW 3 Series wagon
Sat, 11 May 2013It's hard to imagine, but once upon a time, there were only two BMW 3 Series variants: the coupe and sedan. Back before gran coupes, convertibles and yes, even touring models were available, buyers could only get their 3 Series fix if it came with two or four doors and a fixed roof. Back in the mid '80s, BMW engineer Max Reisbock was having some trouble fitting his whole family into his four door. Rather than suck it up and buy a van, he picked up a wrecked 3 Series and got to cutting in a buddy's garage. Months later, he had the very first 3 Series Touring ever built.
At first, he kept the the car to himself, using it to haul friends and family around, but he eventually showed it off to his friends at work. When the BMW executives found out about his project, they called him up to take a closer look. After putting an eyeball on the car, they took it, copied his design, made a few tweaks and quickly rolled out the first production 3 Series Touring. How's that for validation? Check out the video below for Reisbock's story.
2015 BMW M4 Coupe
Mon, 12 May 2014Launched out of the seat by a huge, unexpected dip in the road, yet still held largely in place by the smooth webbing of my safety belt, I clench my teeth waiting to come back to earth. A tenth of a second later, the M4 Coupe touches down and my body is slammed into the leather seat cushion. All of the air is forced out of my lungs upon landing, but the BMW's chassis, suspension and steering appear unfazed. Pleasantly surprised, I mash the accelerator to the floor in giddy pursuit of the car in front of me - an absolutely identical 2015 BMW M4 coupe.
A cavorting game of cat-and-mouse on a desolate twisty canyon in southern Portugal is an excellent way to explore the real-world driving dynamics and performance of BMW's all-new M4 Coupe. But to truly push it to the limit - without having to worry about oversize depressions in the asphalt - requires a dedicated racetrack. Graciously, my hosts have rented the famed Autódromo Internacional do Algarve racetrack, or Portimão circuit, for an afternoon of automotive debauchery.
It's hard to believe this passes for work.
