90 E30 M3 Manual No Reserve All Original 113k Sunroof Airbag Sport 2.3l 4 Cyl on 2040-cars
Daytona Beach, Florida, United States
You're looking at a very rare, unmodified E30 M3 in a desirable color with only 113k miles. It's Alpine White (Alpine Weiss) with Natur interior. This was part of my private collection as the owner of Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports magazines. It's been garage-kept since I originally bought it 6 years ago, and I've never driven it on track or raced it. I bought it because it was original and unmolested. We fixed all its flaws when we bought it, and dyno-tuned it at Balanced Performance in Atlanta for a story in Grassroots Motorsports. It has original springs, shocks, anti-roll bars, wheels (including spare). The Yokohama S-Drive tires need to be replaced soon.
I bought it as a lightly damaged theft recovery with a salvage title and repaired all the small issues it had. It was also damaged on the rear quarter panel. There was no frame damage. This was going to be for my son as a high-school graduation present, but he decided he wanted a 4x4 truck instead. This is a no-reserve auction because I'm confident in the quality of this car. The repairs were done by The Body Werks in Holly Hill, Florida, the shop that has done all the repairs for every car that has appeared in my magazines. It includes the factory tool kit, which is so original that the BMW-labeled rag is still in the tool kit. A similar car has sold recently at a Russo and Steele auction for more than $40,000. What's more: it's essentially the Shelby of the '80s, but still gets 28-30 miles per gallon on the highway. The car does have a couple blemishes. There's a cigarette burn on the back seat. The upper seat bolsters on the front have been repaired in matching vinyl. There is one wheel center cap missing, but I will supply a new one to the auction winner. As you can see, my eBay score is untarnished and you know who I am: the owner of Grassroots Motorsports and have access to the best repair shops and mechanics. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a good car. It has a salvage title, but has no frame damage. I would drive this car cross-country tomorrow with no concerns. Fly to Florida, take a little vacation, and have a wonderful road trip home in a very rare and desirable car. A $500 Paypal deposit is expected within 24 hours, and full payment is required within 5 days. Here's a chance to own a very special car at a special price. Bid with confidence. |

The Homer to contest 24 Hours of LeMons
Thu, 27 Jun 2013It's finally happened. A 24 Hours of LeMons team has built the definitive interpretation of The Homer from The Simpsons for competition in an upcoming race. As you may recollect, The Homer is the fictional car designed by Homer Simpson for his brother's car company. Designed with a separate compartment for screaming children and other Homer-centric goodies, the animated machine bankrupted its parent company and put Homer's brother out of a job. Now we get to watch it race other crap cans as it tackles Southern California's Buttonwillow Raceway on June 29. Scott Chamberlain, Kris Linquist, Reid Conti, Ben Reilly and Mike Yepes will helm the machine, and Jeff Herman serves as the team's creative director.
The racer is the latest incarnation of a well-abused BMW 3 Series. The team campaigned the same E30 under the "Prickstine" banner as a Chrysler Imperial tribute and "Porcubimmer," the latter being a riff on the ever-popular joke about the difference between porcupines and BMW models. Never gets old. You can check out a video of the finished Homer below, and be sure to like the team on Facebook to see updates from the race. Now, about that Canyonero...
The next-generation BMW M5 starts here
Fri, May 15 2015The next-generation BMW 5 Series hasn't even arrived yet, but BMW is hard at work testing the hottest version of the popular sedan – the sixth-generation M5. Now admittedly, these photos might not look much like an M5. The wheels are big, but not uncommonly so. There's no wild and crazy body kit, or hugely flared wheel arches. But what's that in the back? Are those four exhaust tips? Why yes, yes they are. And take a second look at those wheels. Notice the pizza-pan-sized brakes and huge calipers? Yet another M5 giveaway. But as our spies rightly point out, even though this does represent development work on the next M5, it's a very early prototype. That could also explain the charge port on the driver's side front fender, a feature that we've seen on other 5 Series prototypes. This does not mean the next M5 will be a plug-in hybrid, however. What the next M5 will likely be, though, is all-wheel drive. This isn't a huge surprise, considering that the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG has already gone AWD, while the Porsche Panamera Turbo and Audi RS6/7 have always had four driven wheels. BMW has even hinted at just such a development, with former M boss Dr. Friedrich Nitschke going as far as saying AWD could arrive on the next M5. "On our cars we are thinking of all-wheel drive, but it won't come before we get the successor of the M5 and M6," Nitschke said in an October 2013 report. "That's the timing and it's not practical to react in the current life cycles." At this point, it's simply too early to guess at when or where the next-generation M5 will debut. We're expecting the next-gen 5 Series at either the 2016 Geneva Motor Show or Auto China 2016 in Beijing. The next M5 could join it, although it's possible it'd get its very own debut at a later date.
BMW-Toyota sports car heading towards Tokyo debut
Mon, 20 May 2013Earlier this year, BMW and Toyota confirmed a four-part joint venture mostly focusing on increasing improving vehicle efficiency using fuel cells, lightweight materials and better battery technology. Also tucked into the announcement was a "feasibility study" for a shared platform to underpin a future midsize "sports vehicle."
In terms of the latter, it seems that things have stepped up from the feasibility stage to the conceptual stage, as Motor Trend reports we could see a pair of new sports car concepts debut later this year in at the Tokyo Motor Show. There isn't much information about the new program, but the article suggests the sports cars could be all-wheel drive hybrids, with electric motors powering the front wheels and a gas engine powering the rear wheels. While a partnership between Toyota and BMW might not lend itself to a catchy portmanteau like "Toyobaru," here's hoping it will bear fruit that is as exciting as the ones produced by the Toyota/Subaru tie up.
