Alpine CD Player with upgraded 6x9 rear speakers

Factory Keyless Entry / Alarm with remote

The time has come to part ways with my Avus M3. I have always wanted one of these and found this one just over a year ago. The only reason I am selling is that I have a company car and this one unfortunately just sits in the garage. I have 5 cars in my driveway, a camper and a trailer. I just don’t need it sitting anymore and want to stop hearing my wife ask “Why do you have that car?” I am a BMW nut, have had over 14 and will never sell my ’76 2002. While this car is not a cream puff by any means, it has a lot of good points and is a lot of fun to drive. I wanted a car I wouldn’t be scared to daily drive to work, and did that until I was offered my company car.

The Good:

Clean TN title

Sunroof works smoothly in both tilt and all the way open

Windows that auto adjust when you open/close the doors works

A/C blows cold

Alpine CD player Rear speakers have been upgraded to 6x9s with aftermarket adapter plate.

Previous owner installed staggered M Contour wheels in 7.5s front and 8.5s rear

New Headliner

Rear 3.15 differential was replaced with a smoother 3.23 unit out of a later model E36 M3 - new Mobil 1 fluid was installed.

Parts replaced in the last year:

Front struts were replaced with brand new Koni Sports

Rear shocks were replaced with brand new Koni Sports

New RTAB bushings were installed along with UUC limiters

UUC Tuned Sport springs were installed. These are comparable to H&R Sports in stance and ride

New tie rods

Lower cross brace from a Z3 was installed

New rear shock mounts with upper shock reinforcements installed

New upper strut mount rubber

New front sway bar links

New Clutch pedal with UUC anti-squeak/rattle clutch pedal bushings.

New thermostat and water pump installed with metal blade. Metal thermostat housing installed.

Kadunza Motorsport custom engraved valve cover with ///M logo and then powdercoated by Renewed Finishes. This is a thing of beauty and dresses up the engine bay nicely. New valve cover gasket installed at time of installation.

New coolant expansion tank

New clutch arm

New UUC clutch arm bushings

New radiator hoses

New cabin filter

New reverse light switch

New M3 bumper lip

Regular Mobil 1 oil and filter changes

Michelin Pilot Sports front and rear. Fronts are 225/45ZR17 and rears are 245/40ZR17. Tires are still good, however the car has been sitting for a few months and need to be driven. If anything, these will need to be replaced somewhat soon. The rears have the typical lowered BMW edges wearing.

The bad:

No fog lights included. I was going to make fog light delete covers, but never got around to it. Fog light wiring is still there and switch on dash works.

Car does have 1 accident in the rear from its past. Rear was repaired well and it is hard to detect.

*****Read the following paragraph as I am fully disclosing everything about the car...

CAR DOES HAVE HAIL DAMAGE on hood, roof/sunroof and trunk lid. From 10’ away you wouldn’t see it and the paint shines up nicely. Up close you can definitely see the dings. The rest of this car is so clean, I didn’t let it bother me. A lot of the dings could be cleared up with PDR, or just do like I did and not even notice it from the driver’s seat! I tried to take photos of this but with the glare and shine it is hard to notice. I will try to add more photos later.

BMW X5 eDrive Concept is utilitarian plug-in hybrid

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Bridging the gap between internal combustion engine-powered vehicles and electric vehicles are plug-in hybrids, and BMW has made one out of its biggest sports utility vehicle, even if it's just a concept car at this point. The plug-in hybrid X5 eDrive Concept debuted today at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it sits attached to a charge port on the show floor.
As we reported in August, the X5 eDrive Concept combines a turbocharged four-cylinder engine of unknown output with a 95-horsepower electric motor, to achieve longer range and lower emissions. The X5 eDrive can drive up to 75 miles per hour and 19 miles on electric power alone, manage about 62 miles per gallon (3.8 liters per 100 kilometers) and accelerate from 0-62 mph in under seven seconds, according to BMW.
Three drive modes are offered: one that automatically operates the hybrid system, an all-electric mode and a Save Battery mode that operates the vehicle using the engine only.

BMW discussing new plant with Mexican authorities

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Drawn in by low wages and manufacturing costs, BMW could be the next automaker to set up a manufacturing facility in Mexico. Automotive News is reporting that the German automaker has had discussions with local Mexican governments regarding a possible assembly plant, but there is no word as to when a decision may come down. Last we heard, BMW was reportedly looking to build the 3 Series in Mexico.
A key determining factor for this new plant is a free-trade agreement between the US and Europe, which according to the article, would give BMW better "flexibility and cost structure" to open another plant in North America. In terms of luxury automakers, Audi is currently building a new plant in Mexico and Mercedes-Benz is considering opening one in conjunction with Nissan for the CLA-Class, and in the bigger picture, Honda and Mazda are also preparing to kick off vehicle production in Mexico.

Project CARS vs reality at Laguna Seca shows amazing potential

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Project CARS is aiming to be the next great racing sim. Offering a mix of modern and classic cars on famous tracks, developer Slightly Mad Studios is trying to inject a fresh energy into the genre, and at the moment its game looks ready to take on Forza and Gran Turismo.
The game is still about six months from release, and the graphics already look practically photorealistic. The video below shows side-by-side laps of Laguna Seca in a BMW - real life on the left and the game on the right. It's absolutely astounding. Other than some changes to the sponsorship around the track, they are almost identical.
Of course anyone with quality seat time in a racing sim knows that graphics are just one factor. How the game feels is even more important, and without getting hands on, it's impossible to judge yet. However, consider our interest piqued. Project CARS is scheduled to launch in November on the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo WiiU, Windows PC and Steam OS. Scroll down to check out the video.
